  1. Il agree with you guys on the training and dedication, yes they are good sportsmen, and will be athletic, and train well.

I still see the actual fights as down right silly, but thats my opinion. I would never willingly fight someone, im not that type of person. i don't enjoy it and i don't think i ever will.

And whoever mentioned football, i don't care for that either. Equally pointless, however less chance of serious injury IMO.

  2. i'm putting myself out for a bollocking on this one. but if i wanted to watch two blokes knock fuck out of each other, i'd go into town on saturday night :P

I agree. I see boxing as a most pointless sport, and just seems to end up with the participants getting brain damaged.

  3. A lot of MOT stations will take issue with the aircraft style buckles as found on FIA approved harnesses.

Easiest most convienient way of mounting is using existing mounts. 3 point: front lower mounts, rear C pillar mount. 4 point: front lower mounts, rear lower mounts (in some cars this can put you close to the 45 degree mounting angle limit, but is generally safe.

Bear in mind, if you have harneeses you can no longer use the rear seats legally, or safely.

If you fit standard seatbelts, but instead of using the std bolts, use harness eye bolts to secure them, then you can quick release your harness in and out when you feel like it. I will be doing this in my golf.

  4. This is one of the most interesting topics (about bikes!) ive seen on this forum in a long while.

I think its really a question of perspective. Things would be boring and things would never go anywhere without people trying new things, crossing over styles and disciplines.

Anyone who's ridden with me will know that im not a great rider by any means- i wouldn't even put myself in the good category, a lot of people fresh to the sport overtake my level pretty quickly. Ive been riding properly for 7 or so years, but thats a bit of everything. I tried my hand at dirt/street jumping, i had a go at DH, i went out for random long rides in the country side XC style, and i had a go at hopping around trials style with my mates locally.

The bottom line is, i never got properly good at any of them, but i had a damn good time trying! That is why i ride. I enjoy it. I don't ride trials anywhere near enough to improve to a significant level, going out for a couple of hours once every week or so does that. Ive never ridden a comp, but i want to have a go. Infact, the most fun ive had on a bike for a damn long time was going out on my XC rig a couple of weekends ago and doing a small loop which i used to do regularly. I nearly passed out up the hill as im much less fit that i used to be, and i hadnt had any breakfast, but coming down, i went faster than i ever had before, because my confidence has grown to some degree, and the feeling was unbeatable, it was a proper high. Ride to enjoy it, not to "fit in".

Ive stuck with trials, even though im never going to be great at it, as i have friends who still ride, the social scene is great, and whenever i go out on a ride, i don't get laughed at for not being able to do something, i get praised when i make something (however easy for 95% of the group) and encouraged to do new things, so i really do still enjoy it.

We should be praising Akrigg for having a go, and coming out with some truely amazing riding, not criticising him cause hes "too flowy for trials" or because he took a spray can to his bike.

  5. best bet is find someone wholl do it for petrol money and a few quid like, who got their license before 1997 and has a decent towing vehicle.

Unlike me who decided to risk towing a mk2 golf (complete, not just shell) on a hefty trailer with.......... a mk2 golf!!!!! And my licnece is only 2 years old, and i havent done a supplementary test.

The laws are indeed very hazy. Ive spoken to 2 police officers, my driving instructor (when i was learning) and phoned the DVLA, all gave conflicting advise. Driving instructor said i could tow nothing, one police officer said i could tow 250kg, one said i could tow anything, and the DVLA said 750kg / 3500 total convoy with heavier tow car

  6. What 205 are you looking at?

    low spec petrol model?

    Diesel?

    Gti?

If your gonna get a 205 get a diesel, or a Gti. Otherwise, theres no point, your skoda will be better in EVERY way.

Gti is fast and fun, but insurance will be high and MPG low.

the diesels are reliable as muck (ignoring french electronics here) they will just keep on going. I had my dads 205 diesel for a few months, and it was a right laugh, even did road rallies in it! it had done 300k had been in 2 accidents, had 3 interiors, and a shit respray. Eventually came off the road as a brake caliper was siezed and i bent on of the tiebars on a road rally, along with other niggly things it would have cost too much to get it through an mot. It sat for a year, then fired up 1st turn of the key with a jumpstart (i left the interior light on for a year lol!).

It did good on milage, and hapily sat at 80-90 on the motorway.

  7. Any pictures of the remaining window and the window seal on the broken side?

Not familiar with what type of seal the fiestas use.

My rear windows on my golf literally just pushed out from inside, and to reinsert i put the seal round the glass, some string in the groove of the seal that fits to the body work, slotted one edge of the window in, had someone pushing the window from outside while i pulled the sring into the car, pulling the inner lip of the seal over the body work inthe process.

  8. Oli, when are you taking the 1.6 out of the golf? my 1.3's slowley eating its self. Think it must have been run without any oil in it at some point. Anyway, I'll leave that to the VW thread. ;)

Some time over my christmas break.

If you want my engine, then no worries. drive over, wel pull yours out, swap mine across then fiddle trying to get my new engine in! Prob want about £200 or so for the lot including exaust.

  9. Ive got a kona dudu bike, set up for heavy XC, light freeride. coil sprung frame with 5ish inches travel i think, got some old marzochi forks on it atm 5" again. rest of set up is top notch. Hope minis, hope hubs, sun singletrack rims, XT/XTR stuff.

May be interested in swapping whole bike or parts if you just want something a little more heavy duty. i wouldnt mind loosing a bit of weight, i like my XC rides.

  10. I'm not against it as such. If i were to get married it'd just be a legal thing no name changes or rings etc. Then have the proper thing when we're ready. But i'm going to end up married when i don't want to be. I supose it's more of a big deal to some people than it is to others.

I know what your saying, but it kinda sounds like your being hypocrytical.

You seem so willing to commit, and you say she means so much to you that your willing to sacrifice your life as you know it (to be honest, i don't know the otherside of the coin, as you have already said shes not willing to move over here, but have avoided stating the reasons, which is fair enough, but does lead to the question "is she in as deep as you are?").

"But i'm going to end up married when i don't want to be."

What are you afraid of? The commitment? Your hardly short of that right now! That it won't work? Then surely you would have dropped the whole idea by now, you've known this girl long enough.

So its a "step up" in the relationship, so is moving in together. So what if you have to marry first, just have a f**k off great big moving in party, and make a big deal of it.

"I supose it's more of a big deal to some people than it is to others."

Don't get me wrong, marriage is a big deal. I wouldn't go out and just marry anyone. But this isn't anyone JT, why else would you be trying so hard?

  11. or cad/cam work.

Your really not being specific enough with this! CAD CAM stands for computer aided design, computer aided manufacture. Your still not actually stating what processes will be used in conjuntion with it. We need to know so we can help you, and you need to know so you can put it in your write up and get marks!

are you milling, turning, engraving, laser cutting, water jet cutting, EDMing, i could go on.....

  12. Really shoudl have paid the extra on my project car to get the chrome strip small bumpers!

just got me a single lamp badgeless grille with chrome strip, crystal cross hairs, and some crystal small bumper indicators with built in sides like mine.
