    Basically the inner is ally and the outer is steel, it makes the disc lighter than a normal disc, and it also dissipates heat quicker.

    And personally I wouldn't use one for trials as my mate broke the alloy centre on one of his, which could be quite ugly when riding trials! Theres no need for them in trials as you don't generate the heat that you would when riding downhill. And there more expenise if you land on it and break it.

  2. For dj it has to be the Dmr moto Rt, But the ultimate downhill tyre has to be the Maxxis Minion :D

    So wrong! Only kidding minions are alright but my personal dh favourite is michelin comp 16's but you probably don't want a dh tyre for dirt jumpings as it will be too slow rolling. Safe options is a hard compound high roller 2.35.

  3. I'm 5 foot 7 and ride a 1080 wheel base 26 inch (simtra st1) and I don't feel it holds me back at all. Infact I much prefer it too my old mod! Have a go on a 26 and see how it feels its all up to personal preferance.

  4. When I was riding downhill I was first using DMR V8's with skate shoes, I then got some 5 10 riding shoes and the differance was massive much better grip. I then upgraded my pedals to burgtec penthouse flats (supposedly the best flat pedal ever but too big and heavy for trials) and the differance wasn't so big. I then tried skate shoes on the new pedals to compare and while being better than the dmr's the differance was no where near as great as the shoes gave. So instead of debating between skate shoes, as over the years I've learnt they are all very simlar, if you really want the grippiest shoe/pedal combination I'd get some decent riding shoes designed for flat pedals!

  5. Yeh I see your point I think FFW is more useful on a mod bike. But its on stock bikes I was more curious about (mainly as this is the type of bike I've been looking at) as with a 16/18 freewheel you'd only be using a 18/20 front sprocket so not much size differance. And I'm not too keen on the idea of the chain always running through a tensioner.

  6. I've searched but not really found any results. Ive recently been looking to get back into trials after quiting a couple of years ago and while looking at stocks it got me wondering. Why dosen't anybody use freewheels on rear hubs? Because having the freewheel on the cranks will effectively reduce the amount of engagement points per revolution of the rear wheel. It also means the chain is revolving whenever your riding around so slighlty more chain wear (I know its only a tiny amount but its still worth considering) and theres also more chance of your trouser leg getting pulled in! And the only advantages of a front freewheel I can think of is putting the weight more central on the bike and being able to get away with a slighlty smaller sprocket, so the chain is slightly more out of the way and slighlty lighter. But I still don't think front freewheels are so much better to warrant nearly everybody who hasn't got a freehub using that setup. Anybody want to prove me wrong? I'd like you too cause the bike I've got coming has a front freewheel setup!

    If you could stretch your budget abit you could get a second hand bike with a good frame and eventually upgrade the parts!
