markrat
At the moment i have a load of spacers under my stem as i was lazy and couldnt be bothered to cut the steerer. I was just wondering how cutting the steerer and lowering the stem would change how the bike rides. The frame is a Toxsin 1 by the way. Cheers
Muel
Take the stacks out from under tha stem, and put them above the stem then try it out.Just play about with them until you find where you want it, then cut it down.To cut it down, wrap tape around it and use it as a guide, then cut it down and file it down. You could use a grinder aswell, I find thats the best way to get it accurate. markrat
Thats a good idea. didnt think of that. Got a grinder at work and some nice cutting discs so i`ll do that i think. Also how much diffrent do forks make to the feel of a bike. e.g straight blade and curved.
Muel
It doesn't make a difference whether it's straight or curved blade, it's the legnth and offset that matter.
markrat
Ok. I`ll have to find the length and offset of my forks. There gusset jury`s i think.Just had a look and internet reckons my forks are 403mm and have a 1.5" rake. Does that sound right. Also it says they are 1600g, that seems heavy to me.lol Edited February 1, 2009 by markrat
