  1. Alright, here's my first "real" trials bike and it rides lovely!

    But

    1) what year is the frame?

    2) what fork is it (standard fork for the Level Boss perhaps)?

    3) what year are the Maguras?

I'd be more than happy to have those questions answered by anyone who knows or has an educated guess!

    Quick Specs

Rear wheel: Alex DX32 rim, Hope hub

    Rear brake: Magura

Front wheel: Mavic Cross rim, Mavic Cross hub

Front brake: Avid BBDB, XTR lever, 160 mm rotor

    Cranks: Truvativ Husslefelt

    Pedals: Wellgo

    Stem: Titec

    Bars: Try-All "Yourself replica"

Brake boosters: One Tensile 4-bolt, one Echo (I think) 2-bolt. The strenghts from both combined = win :)

Forks: Echo Urban (thanks to the replies down under :))

Highest on the wishlist is a pair of new, nice foam grips.

    Pic time!

I bought it for £425, what do you think about the price? And what would you upgrade first if given the option?

  2. Ha, ha. I told you guys I was a geezer! A senile one at that! No wonder there were no replys. I should have looked at your banner after I googled "Trial bikes" Good luck and God bless to you all!

It's nice to see that you're giving it a go, good luck to you ^_^

  3. Listen, (almost) everyone wants to be young and once you're old you have two options:

    1) Be an ordinary old, boring guy who doesn't do anything but work, watch tv and eat popcorn.

    2) Try to enjoy your life as best as you can, while you can still use your body. And have fun with what you've got. That's what this man is doing and he's got my respect for that.

And also, to other beginners it's nice to see that they're not the only one at that "noob"-stage :)

  4. Hi, I have a Mavic rear rim that is normally too small to use with the Magura brake but the previous owner of the bike was smart and added an extra pad backing to one of the pads. I recommend you try it while waiting for a new rim (if you have extra pads/backings that you don't need) :)

  5. I will when money allows. In the meantime, I've found 'Mother Nature' provides her own stopping devices; walls, dogs, small children, gravity and the ground. :S
Money always allows for a pair of brakes! If you can afford food then you pretty much can afford brakes =) any v-brake will do really, for example:

Add another £5 and you'll get:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22385 and they are sufficient for even experienced riders with the right pads :)

  6. Trialschallenger how did you do that? Looks interesting... Just drilled right through the frame and then threaded?

To the OP, one solution is to drill your stripped threads to one size bigger, so if they are M5 now (most Magura mounts are, I think), get them drilled and threaded to M6. I did that on my frame and it works great! Cost me around £12 at a bicycle repair shop :) downside is that you have to enlarge every hole that the screw goes through before reaching the threads, like spacers, bolt clamp holes etc...

  7. Yeah so if you brake hard, the spring will get compressed and that would make it impossible to lock the brakes. I googled around and found brakes with built-in modulators but they don't look like yours.. Hmm maybe I found a way in which they might work, mspaint job coming up soon!
