The chassis appears to be in better condition than we all expected. Still going to be a shitload of work...

Are you going to sort out the gear lever?

If they are all that bad then surely you are best off just keeping at it Sam?

Have any of you used the cheapy 2.5" eBay bi xenon projectors? Dad has HIDs on his larger tractors but wants more focused light as they scatter everywhere because they are tired reflector housings so I suggested fitting projectors in, at £15 a pair they seem a little too good to be true! Bear in mind they will only do field work so legality isn't an issue as he doesn't drive on the road at night and our fields are all linked to the farm.

  3. I am basically a Subaru f**king pro now.

An hour to take the intake pipe off and refit a new one.

A further hour deleting everything to do with the PCV.

    Rotated GT30 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO soon.

  4. Ctrl V.

After a shocking experience with a cheap inlet pipe, I've learned my lesson and realised never to touch them again.  On the 1.8t VAG stuff I am used to the tolerances could be much higher without any issue. I underestimated the need for a proper fitting pipe on the STI quite hugely!

I spent a week searching for an intake pipe which wasn't stupidly over priced, still had a slight kink before the turbo and didn't look like it needed loads of trimming to fit under the inlet and still get the recirculation pipe on.

I was very pleased when I found the TTRacing inlet pipe for under £65 delivered, and having just got it delivered I thought I would share.

I will start stripping back down to fit tonight, but initial thoughts are very promising!

Expect an update of how the fitting went over the weekend :)

TT 225, Got a quote for LUK complete kit, only negative's I've really heard are harder clutch depression (Subject to user) and possibly abit noisy at idle?

I wouldn't bother with the LUK kit personally.

    CG motorsport.

    And a new dual mass.

I had an absolute f**king arse f**k of a time fitting a SMF kit to my S3; the parts supplied were LUK and didn't fit.

I ended up with CG and couldn't have been happier.

I cannot recommend them strongly enough; and that you buy a new breather and clips, as well as a new slave. Do it right once.

  6. Bit of a mare with the Poobaru.

So I found that the intake hose was split.

    14203390_1783581411857032_29959597480330

I originally bought a reasonably cheap silicone inlet pipe for it, and after massivery effort I came to the very sub optimal situation of slightly ripping the hose at the turbo inlet. This annoyed me.

I globbed some silicone around the rip and no put it all together.

This annoyed me and I knew I needed a new one.

So I took the inlet manifold off, fitted some 8mm heat resistant spacers and replaced every single hose and clamp possible, all of the vacuum lines and basically anything I could get my hands on.

Reassembled with the slightly ripped turbo intake pipe, all my will be taking it apart next week to fit a new, more expensive turbo intake pipe which should fit much better and not require silicone ripping force to get around the inlet and onto the turbo.

It sounds lovely and healthy now :)

Unfortunately none of the silicone inlets will work with the stock MAF and airbox arrangement so I've had to fit a very nasty cone filter. However I plan to purchase a 45* silicone joiner and mount a Honda S2000 air filter in the place of the standard airbox with a cold air feed from both the wing vent as well as a small trumpet mounted in the lower fog light cover with ducting through the wing to the filter. As the standard airbox assembly has a snorkel from the slam panel into a resonator in the wing and then through to the airbox. Giving me two nice big holes in the wing for ducting as well as a snorkel which I can cut to shape to feed the filter.

  7. Subaru's are f**king shit.

I thought I'd make a start on removing the intercooler and getting everything off ready for new parts. Didn't realise what a f**k pig of a job it was.

Somebody on Scoobynet described removing the turbo intake pipe without removing the inlet manifold as ''a job I wouldn't do again if you had my wife and children at gunpoint.''

For those not so in the know, it's the big black pipe you can't see which is under the two red tubes on the left hand side of the engine bay. And as about 17,000 annoying pipes coming off it.

    14095769_1783631341852039_36665683242672

Ordinarily it is totally concealed so I didn't realise just how bad and split it was.

    Boo.

I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm for putting it back together.

It was kind of cool taking the intercooler and all the piping for the water spray off and expecting to see an engine, but just seeing a gearbox.

    14199710_1783631365185370_70401434114294

So with everything taken off and the car awaiting parts I stuffed a cloth into the inlet and turbo holes and will sit tight.

    14202706_1783631431852030_65494561511890

Whilst it's off it's hard to not just put a new turbo on it. Now is the time to do it; I could have the thing off in 20 minutes; the oil lines would need unbolting, the v-band cracking off and the actuator vac line unplugging and it would be off.

  8. Spent more money on the Subaru.

Replacement boost hoses, a wide bore intercooler y pipe,  new gaskets for the intercooler and DV, springs should hopefully be on next weekend and oil and filter change next week.

I've had it since April and done just about 2000 miles.

  9. I don't care to scroll up but the person with squeaking brakes.....

    You'be bed them in wrong.

You need to go out and accelerate to 100MPH and then slow down to a walking pace as quickly as possible as many times as you can, until you have no brakes left and smoke is billowing off them.

Then drive for as long as you can without touching the brakes until they are totally cool.

  10. Rollei works.

I threw a roll of film in it and rattled off a roll to make sure it all felt nice and that the rewind and advance levers all operated. All seemed fine. Put a second roll in it, took one shot and gave it to my girlfriend and drove down the beach.13912905_1772929029588937_24485583202402

She's never taken a photo with anything other than an iPhone. So we rushed around for 15 minutes taking snaps and then drove straight to get them developed.

In short, the Rollei is a really good fun camera! It just feels like it's about to break all the time so needs treating with a bit of love.

I can't wait to use it properly :)

I'm absolutely over the moon with it; I've already run 36 through it and I'll have those developed at lunch time.

Only criticism is it just feels SO cheap, I'm trying to compare it to my Olympus Trip 35 which is obviously a juggernaut of cheap camera ruggedness. But I can really feel that the Rollei IS going to break, one day. Kid gloves for this one!

  12. Hi Photography thread.

I've been restoring an Olympus OM10 over the last couple of days.

My Stepdads dad bought this camera new and was fastidious about keeping things in an ''as new'' condition, putting everything back in it's box and cleaning/lubricating after every use general weirdness. After he died a mysterious box of cameras was given to his sister, and they sat outside in the garage for almost 15 years.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures of the state that it was in when I got it, just because I was so excited about cleaning it up. I've got some afters though.

Previously the seals had become a bit ''gummy'' and the mirror was sticking, annoying.

The view finder was so dirty that you couldn't see the shutter speed.

Next I've got to sort out a Pentax ME Super (the one you can see through the view finder) however I think I'm just going to buy a K1000 to use the Pentax lenses, because there are some really nice lenses with just a bit of fungus that I can sort out.

    I'm absolutely devastated...

I took my trusty Olympus Trip 35 to Peru with me, expecting some super juicy film loving. Like a total chump I dropped it at the airport on the way out and smashed the lens, the lens and zone based focus ring went all floppy. So I thought I'd run the rolls I had through it anyway and go from there.

Literally all of them turned out shit.

Which is a shame because there was some really good potential in them.

I've bought a Rollei XF35 to replace my Olympus Trip; I'll post more details when it arrives.

  13. Moved to Newcastle.

Drove the Subaru up. It was radical.

My pads and general servicing items are here, the discs are at my mums 300 miles away. c**ts.

Been in Peru for the last week, all of the cars there are f**king hilariously shit. Literally every single car there is a badly modified piece of shit.

  14. Spending more money on the Subaru as every day goes by.

I just got home to a PM from somebody I message a week ago about a set of Girodisk floating front discs for sale, he had them up for £250 and I offered £200. He sold them, but just messaged me saying the guy has backed out and never paid up. I've spoken to the person who was buying them to make sure I'm not being scammed and it is legit.

    DSC_0854.jpg

    So they're on their way.

Then like an idiot I spent most of today looking at stock location GT30's. If I'm getting it mapped which is going to cost £600 and give me 380BHP I might as well spend £925 and have an Alcatek ECU fitted and mapped, and I might as well spend a grand on a billet stock location GT30 and have 450BHP, because the £600 will be wasted if I get bored of 380BHP.

£2200 (when you factor gaskets and new bolts) for 120BHP is ridiculously cheap and will keep it 50BHP under the recommended ''blowing up'' territory as long as I have a bit of lag.

I am slightly amazed at how easy it is to get big power out of these STI's; but then they aren't designed like the cars I'm used to. They were always built to be a fast car, so I guess it's to be expected.
