  1. I think the perfect video is down to the following:

Riding- If you're not very good then it wont be the most entertaining of videos. Try and go as big as you can. Saying there's nothing good to ride isn't an excuse (see Location)

Camera Quality- If it's not good quality then neither's your video. Nobody wants to watch a hundred pixels dancing about on the screen, they want to see a nice and clear trials video.

Location- The location is crucial. There's only so much you can do with 3 steps and a bench for example. Travel about in order to make the perfect video. If that means filming over a couple of months, then do that, it will be worth it in the long run. Natural videos are often a tad dull, because the rocks all look the same.

Filming- Get some interesting angles. Get nice and close to the rider - I can't stand watching somebody riding about 30foot away. Long shots only work when the scale is very big - say a 16foot drop. Even then, get a close up and a long shot. You can be a whizz at editing but if you have shaky hands or a lack of imagination when it comes to filming then the video wont be any good.

Editing- Don't EVER consider using the cheap transitions that come with your editing software. I'm talking about the ones with stars and doors opening and stuff. Just use a nice fade or cross fade (see Fluid 23 for cross fade ideas). Editing can make or break your video. If you have 4 mins of footage, but 1 minute of that is trackstanding then please make a 3 minute video. Even if that means cutting 1 minute of your Red Hot Chilli Pepper song off (see music)

Music- If you use Linkin Park or Red Hot Chilli Peppers then you're video is not original. They've been used too much. Try and get a song that not many people would have heard before, and make sure the tempo reflects the style of riding. Also don't copy a song that was used in a different trials video. This means no songs from any TrialsKings, Nailsea, Reed Merschat videos.

Repetition- If you're filming in a place like London for example, try and use locations that haven't been used before. Or if you do use the Shell Centre, try a line that hasn't been done before. Also, don't film the same line being done by different people (see London Ride - the spools at the end). It's irritating, once it's been seen once or twice it gets horrendously boring.

    Stephen.
