Ok i decided to go single speed and i spent a small fortune to do so... I purchased the following: V!Z Alloy Lock ring (didn't fit when tightened) Trialtech spacers (had to hammer on, then change with 24/7 spacers at my local bike shop) Trialtech Lite Sprocket TNN (steel) chain ring and bash plate Trialtech Lite Z610 HX 3/32 chain Tensile single speed sprung chain tensioner Firstly i went to put my trialtech spacers and sprocket on. I had to hammer the spacers on because they were to small but the sprocket went on no problem? After i sorted that out i tightened the V!Z lockring. I fitted the TNN bash ring/chainring to my middleburns with no problems. I then put the Tensile chain tensioner on and made the chain the right length. I set it all up, was spot on with alinement and everything spun freely. I mounted the bike and went to hop to the back wheel, CRACK! I thought id instantly broke something but it was just the chain slipping. I messed about with the set up for a few hours but every time i add any kind of pressure the chain skips and makes a nasty cracking sound the likes of which when changing gear. I took it apart and headed to my bike shop, explained what was happening and left it with them. I went to pick it up today and they told they had to put 24/7 spacers on because they didn't want to hammer the trialtech ones and that everything is lined up as sweet as a nut but the chain keeps slipping. They said the only thing they think it could be is that one of the components isn't compatible with another, they were pretty mystified. It cost me £30 in labor charges and i still don't have a ridable bike so im very flustrated. Am i missing something? I just don't understand what is happening... Also i told them to check my hub etc anything it could be but all is A OK and it was all working fine before i fitted the new parts. Thanks all for reading my short essay here Kev

You guys have been awesome in aiding me with advice in order to get my bike together/get me back in the saddle so i salute this new members chat for that firstly! Once again i need some assistance and pearls of trialsing wisdom from you guys/girls! Ok i purchased the trialtech lite chain (3/32) and its to fat to go through my existing rear mec or even sit on my eight speed cassette. Anyway because of this i've decided to go singe to save on costly rear mec replacements and save on the weight I need advice on how to convert my 8 speed cassette to a single ring. Eg what ring, what ring size, how do i attach it to my existing hub sprocket thing, what chain tensioner is best to use? I usually ride a 22t ring in third gear. Also i purchased a 16t TNN one piece UCI bash plate/ring for my middleburns which looks the sex but i've had a spot of trouble with the lockring tool needed to attach the blighter. Upon trying to tighten the lockring with the new 16t TNN attached the prongs on my tool were to short... so i couldn't tighten the lockring securely. So could you please advise me on a tool that will do the job, where can i pick one up? Thanks once again! Kev

Thought id post a link to a video. I haven't been out and about on the old trials bike for a long, long time due to ripping my shoulder out of its socket. The videos not anything amazing, just really happy to be riding again! The doctors told me i would never hop again! In your face doctors! Popped my tire on the first thing i rode, ahhhhhh brilliant, i love trials: http://www.youtube.com/user/kevtimtv#p/u/0/59PotLZeKKs

On the old TartyBikes website it says the trialtech lite chain can be used on a 8 speed gear system: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...p;category_id=7 Are these dirty, dirty lies?

If you a young rider i would definitely go 20 inch. Buy a stock when you get a bit older as everything seems to come a bit cheaper for the smaller ride. Its a lot easier to chuck around and your also less likely to mess up important muscles.

I run an eight speed cassette i'll so single when i build a new shinny back wheel........ Any advise on a good chain? It'll need it to be long enough to run through my mec and that for now, any suggestions as i've had some pretty bad experiences with chains snapping on me. Over and out

Cheers for that Ed! Massive help mate, i understand my cranks at last! Im either going to go for the middleburn super pro or the TNN one-piece (steel) Which one would people suggest? Cheers, cheers! Kev

The BB is a long one How do i fit the middleburn pro trials ring? Will the five arm bit on the cranks come off some how as it dosn't look compatible? My cranks are about seven years old also.........? Ahhhhhh, confusion!

Hi folks Having real trouble finding a five arm 22t bash ring small enough to fit onto my phase 1.2. I've exchanged a couple and they just keep catching on the frame when i tighten the cranks to the bottom bracket. I really don't want to get new crank arms as i love my middleburns. I just tried putting on a blackspire granny god with no luck, any one no of a good smaller bash ring that'll fit a phase and five arm cranks? Cheers Kev

Hay people Im returning to trials after two years out of the loop due to a nasty injury. I just purchased a phase 1.2 (frame and forks) and have pretty much lumped together spare parts i have knocking around in my garage. Went out on it today and all things considering it rides pretty good. I have decided to upgrade bits and bobs her and there starting with wheels (hubs, rims, tires). Any recommendations guys/ girls? I used to ride D521's with deore hubs and tioga tires. I want something thats stronger and lighter? I could also do with a new chain if any one can help me out there? Just go shimano? Heres a link to some of my riding, before i came a cropper! Enjoy folks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_CHO4V1d-g i miss my zebdi! Cheers Kev

Hello trials web world Im Kevin from Wolverhampton and Im 24 years young! I eat trials bikes and Im just really really hungry. Im a returning rider, i came a cropper a few years ago and really messed up my shoulder. The doctor at the hospital told me i would never ride trials again, i still see trials lines everywhere i go (to my girlfriends dismay) and now my arms a little stronger i think it's time to get back in the saddle. Even if Im only going to be riding small stuff. Im after some gear to build me a trials bike and thats why Im on this forum, and of course to meet other trials folk. Before the shoulder injury i was riding trials for about two years on a planet X Zebdi. I got pretty good and if you want to see some of my riding type in "nostalgic trials time" into youtube and you'll find a video of me which i uploaded this morning. Well i guess thats about all i have to say for now. Cheers Kevin
