  1. i snapped the axle in my rear hub the other day so i got a new hub and took it to my lbs (they do have a trials rider there) and i ask them how much it would be to rebuild the wheel with the new hub and they £35! if they dont have to use new spokes and i dread to think how much if they do get new spokes.

so does anybody else think that's abit much for a wheelbuild when its only £18 on tartybikes if you send them your parts.

    Send to tartys then :)

  2. from my experience, you were probably right in the original post you are now apologising for. Never had a good experience dealing with them, they seem to offer bad advice and talk down to other shops (Ride-On in Lancs is amazing however).

Yeah I agree, when I asked one of the guys about a certain product he seemed more interested in selling me one of the new onzas.

  3. I've had a go at hammering the crank with no luck, apparently there is a tool out there that can 'pop' cranks off without using the push method, will do some research!

No need. Spray loads of WD40 in there and keep working at it and it will come off.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions guys. My budget has gone up to about £400 now. Been looking on pinkbike/ebay and think I will probably go for something second hand. After going trail riding at Glentress and hiring an Orange 5, I really would like a full susser but I guess they're too expensive.

  5. Have you tried a mixture of water and antifreeze? There were loads of topics at winter and I'm sure several different people said that antifreeze has lubrication properties in it, therefore stopping the pistons becoming slow or sticky.

  6. is there any way that i could fill the whole and re drill it to correct size?

Why don't you just continue using m6 bolts since you tapped it to m6? Or even better, helicoil it to m6 and have less chance of stripping the threads again.

  7. hi,

two weeks ago i stripped the threads out of the magura mounts,i did a quick fix by putting the next size up bolts in,5mm head ones, now i have bought a m5 helicoil kit im just waiting for it to be delivered and i was think will the coil still fit in since the hole is slightly bigger?

    cheers

So you put an m6 bolt in? How did you manage that? Did you tap it out to m6?

  8. It's called progress and innovation and it can only be good.

    Trialtech?

Problem with trials components is that they're made of materials which are of rubbish quality. If there was as much R&D going into materials used for trials bikes as there is for those used in the automotive industry, our bikes would not only be a lot lighter, but also a lot stronger. It all boils down to the market value which for trials is very low. So for now we're destined to ride piles of crap which somehow work.

Fair enough, didn't really think of it like that. I just assumed that something so light would break very easily. Happy to be proven wrong though.

  9. Agree with above. Why try and make super lightweight forks when the current ones still have weaknesses. Companies should try and maintain a good weight but work on making their products strong rather than stupidly light.

  10. Carrera bikes are fine, I've got a road bike made by them it was great value. At that price, you're never going to get anything that anyone's going to lust over (sorry to say), and as you say, the specs are all pretty similar. So find a good deal, try it out for size and go for it.

Yeah, I know i won't get something amazing for that price, just looking for something to go for rides on and off road with, but want something that will last me well :) Would I be better off looking down the second hand route?

    Thanks

I'm selling my Carrera Kraken, looking for £250 plus postage - upgraded a few parts on it and have loads of spare bits. Interested?

Either way, they're good bikes - I'm only selling mine as I don't enjoy that kinda riding, I like small bikes I can use to injure myself :)

    PM'd :)

This is for 520, which seems like really good value for money. Anyone have any experience with these bikes?

Here is a picture, but this is before some of the parts listed above were put on it.link

Also, it won't have all the pink on it, haha.

  12. Yeah it does, but the person selling the cranks has a sprocket and bash ring on it, would I be better with just the cranks?

Yes, if you ran a sprocket on the front you would need to run a freewheel or freehub on the rear. You'd probably be best sticking with your current ratio.

  13. Okay, i'm gonna take the cranks off to have a look, but what are the differences between ISIS and square taper to look for?

Another question, the cranks come with a sprocket used on a 24"...Are the sprocket sizes different from mod and stock?

A square taper BB has 4 edges. An ISIS has several splined edges. Have a look at some pictures on tartybikes if you don't understand. Does your T-Pro not have a freewheel on the front?

  14. I was looking at some Trialtech ISIS cranks earlier, and was wondering if they would fit my BB. I don't know what kind it is, but i'm pretty sure it's the one my Onza T-Pro came with originally.

    Any help much appreciated :)

Well, if your BB is ISIS then that's fine. If not, then no. I'd imagine the BB is square taper.
