  1. After a loooong time waiting I have finally managed to pick myself up an Orange Five this weekend! Scouted it out on Facebook at about 7pm on Saturday and an hour later it was home with me :P It's only a 2010, but it was a mega good price and just on the other side of town from me so I couldn't pass it up. The older geo seems to suit me anyway because I'm not into the idea of this crazy long/slack stuff, plus I like the 26" wheels so it has worked out quite well really.

Can't really fault it other than not having ISCG mounts and the fact it has a 27.2 seat tube which kind of limits dropper choice plus the current post (100mm travel KS) feels a tad flexy for my liking.

Overall pretty darn chuffed! It's my first proper full suspension bike (or bike with any suspension for that matter, excluding bikes I had when I was about 10) so she's taking a bit of getting used to!

  2. Loved it! It was just so creative which must come down to the fact it was on the Santa Cruz rather than the Inspired. Anything on the Inspired is probably meant to be big bangers and taken seriously, but this being a "mess about"* on a full sus must give him a little freedom in playing with ideas. Plus that sort of stuff probably appeals to standard MTB riders more than his usual stuff who seem to be a massive part of Danny's audience now.

Definitely a contender for his best video in my eyes :D

*the term "mess about" meaning playing around on the 'wrong' bike for the job but still smashing out moves that most riders wouldn't dare do on a trials bike!

  3. Hi Joe,

I ride moto trials at Seymours sometimes. I've had a chat with Stuart (who runs the place) a few times and it seems they can only open it for motos a certain number of times a year, but we didn't really talk about bicycles.

It definitely isn't an open-all-the-time venue, but his son is big into the bicycles so he might be willing to set up a pedal bike evening? I often whip out my Inspired after an evening of riding on the moto (as do a couple of others) and he doesn't have a problem with that at all, so it might be something he'd consider. I'd definitely be up for it because it's a cracking venue! :)

Thanks. The question is whether 1st: 8 engagement points make a noticeable difference and 2nd whether the Pro 4 is as reliable as the Pro 2. I can imagine that less material is being used to create the 44T ratchet having the same diameter.

I don't think that the larger flange diameter makes a stronger wheel or at least the Pro2 has proven to be a very good base for a strong wheel build.

I forgot to say that the size of the ratchet has increased too so that the teeth aren't any smaller.

I wouldn't say that the 8 engagements would make much difference because 80 is already tonnes, especially when you consider gear ratios. With my Inspired and Pro 2 it works out as about 100 engagements per crank revolution which is plenty already compared to the 110-ish you'd get from a Pro 4.

Anyone knows the difference between the Pro 2 and the Pro 4 other than 80 vs. 88 engagement points?

Larger diameter spoke flanges that might be slightly wider spaced than the Pro 2. There might be some changes in the bearings too, but I'm not entirely sure.

3:30 shit got real with that line, I liked that a lot. No messing about just did it.

Liked the watch but the music to me just wasn't anything like the riding.

    Make more man.

That and the line before were the only moves from my local spot. I've been trying that move for far too long but I'm glad how it came out when I finally got it :)

I get what you mean with the music. Out of curiosity, what sort of thing would you have preferred? I'm just awful at picking out music :P

More should come soonish, I've got a few more lines picked out to film at some point

  7. Thanks for all of the kind comments :) I know there's nothing big in there, but I prefer small techy spots to going balls out up a massive rock or wall so the control comments are mega cool to me :D

Wait a minute I know where that is. Never thought anyone rides Weymouth other than me o_O nice riding though haven't ridden that bit in a while

I've been there on holiday loads, but this is the first time I've taken the bike. I didn't really get to ride anything else there though with it being so packed everywhere because of the bank holiday

  8. Hi chaps,

I'm pretty slack when it comes to filming for videos and hate sitting on clips for more than a week so here's the outcome of my weekend in Weymouth. I probably should have kept the clips and filmed some more to add a bit of variety, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn't really strive for perfection because I wasn't up there for long, plus my phone doesn't like to stay alive for more than an hour when filming, so sit back, relax, ignore the correction hops and enjoy :)

@onzatpro09 I'd be very interested in that, cheers. Swindons only 20 mins from me so it'd be ideal. Won't have my t bike at work until the week after next but once it's here I'll be well up for going for a ride.

Cool, send me a message when you get the bike down here and we can sort something out :)

Well I haven't ridden Swindon before, but I am only in Reading so 45 mins away so when you get a ride organised let me know.

Also, it's worth making the trip to Bristol, loads to ride there.

To be honest there isn't particularly much here, but it's alright if you get a bit creative. You'll also have to be willing to ride around a fair bit because it's mainly micro-spots dotted about rather than big spots :P If we get something sorted, I'll let you know.

I've heard there's tonnes in Bristol plus a fair few group rides, but haven't really rode there because I don't drive. Might be worth getting the train there at some point though :)

  10. I was kind of hoping it would be 135mm spacing to cater for a Hope hub or equivalent, but I suppose that might cause issues with crank and disc clearance with the mega short stays. Despite that, if I were to go back to a mod this is probably what I'd have :)

Plus steel for the win :P
