  1. If your going to be doing more than about 13000 miles a year then a diesel is the way forward, specially as most modern diesels perform damn well too.

I'd also recommend something family car sized, a mondeo, vectra, octavia type size, but for good solid motorway chugging i would have to say go with a beemer, there just known for going on and on and on. look after it will and it will last forever.

  2. ooo nice topic, perfect for ma as im thinking of getting a freeride bike. Looked at a Norco six frame today :)

Think a bargain full bike would be better value though as the norco frame only was about 700 :S

  3. Welcome to TF Petrum.

You've chosen a fine uni in Loughborough. It's got a good trials reputation too with quite a few riders having gone there (in mine and a fair few others cases) and loads that still do. The campus is pretty good for a good range of both small and larger things to learn on. I started riding trials in my first year there and continued all the way through until i graduated last year. I've all but given up now (moved to dirt jumping and park instead) but it's a great place. You should be able to find someone to go out with most of the time, and riding with people better than you is the quickest way to improve :)

Good luck and have a great time at lboro.

  4. Ohhh, its got spyware on it! As with the new battlefield game.

Installs shit on your PC so you can 'recieve the right adverts' for your region...bollocks, but its not optional :P

The only option you get is 'if you do not want this software on your PC, do not install it onto a PC with internet access'.

Thats an absolutely rediculous thing. You pay good money (the retail price for a new game is usually pretty damn large in my eyes) and then they want you to put up with adverts in the game. It's a joke!

  5. That last post sealed it, you want to sell, then get on ebay, because your not going to do it on here!! You've already had one warning from me for this so, it now has a friend.

  6. A helmet should never be bought without trying it first, they are very personal things and need to fit properly to ensure they are the most effective possible. Everyones heads are different shapes and so it is important that you find one that fits properly. Without the chin strap done up you should be able to shake your head side to side and up and down without it moving much and definately not falling off. The chinstrap is only there to prevent it coming off if your body hits the ground first and causes your head to jolt, the adjustment band is what should hold it in place.

If you want to buy online (yes their cheaper, but how much do your trust the mail not to play football with it first?) then go and try one on locally first and find the one with the best fit, then find it cheapest online and get it from there. I'd always recommend getting one from a local shop though as they can help you with the fitting.

  7. Sorry mate, but it's not all good, the rules are there to add at least a little bit of protection to both the buyers and yourself, were not ebay and so don't have the same levels of security they do so please respect the rules.

    Cheers

    Andy

  8. Unlucky mate, I take it it was a bit on the wet side. As everyone else said, at least your ok.

In terms of insurance, i would say unless it more than about 200-300 more than your excess then don't bother claiming as the increase in premiums will more than clean up that amount more than your £500 excess. I'm no car expert but having had the bumper replaced on the fiesta a couple of years ago, and a bonnet repaired that was about £500 in total, and there wasn't any rad damage or anything else, so i'd think you'll be looking at quite a lot, however if you can fir the stuff yourself (or with mates help) then getting it sprayed will be the most expensive bit.

  9. So long as no-one says i'll buy it off you your just scraping inside the rules (still sketchy though so i can't account for another mod/admin having a different opinion).

You might want to give a bit more details than just a revell 26 though if you expect people to give you an estimate, spec, condition etc.

  10. I know you said your not buying on here, but your wanting to arrange to meet someone to buy from them through here, which is seen the same as buying on here. If your coming into waterloo then i suggest you pay a visit to Evans Cysles, they have a shop just outside waterloo station :)

  11. I'd say it looks like your graphics card is just plain lacking the power to be able to play the game. Either drop your graphics settings in the game or consider a new card.

What gfx card do you have? and what version driver are you using? I'd always recommend getting the latest driver for your graphics card when trying to play a brand new game as there are often optimisation settings/code that help it to run smoothly or run at all in some instances.

  12. I have a passport one but mine's identical to the real thing and i have been using it for the past two years and that is in pubs and shops and not once i have they said anything about it but i must say they do look identical plus it only cost me £15 so i aint fussed.

    Dan.

Thats an official government document though so if you get caught then you will get properly shafted.

  13. I run zone alarm free version.

Pretty simple to use and setup. I've never had any problems with any hackings/virus' or spyware with the combo of AVG free/zone alarm free/ad-aware/spybot S&D

  14. I also use AVG, and have it on a pretty old system also (PIII 1GHZ). It's fairly light resource wise and has some of the basic schedule capabilities which are handy.

If your going to buy a scanner i'd recommend kapersky, as it's very good at picking up pretty much everything.

As a general rule of thumb i'd try to steer clear of integrated security solutions as they tend to be more trouble than their worth. Seperate virus scanner, firewall and spy/ad-ware scanners tend to work best.

  15. sorry i disagree with nearly everything people have posted, cheap amps sound cheap and cheap speakers sound even cheaper. If you havent got a clue you'll probably think your £100 eltax floorstanders are good but compare them to something with a clue and you'll realise.

Its like a trials rider jumping on an onza tv and thinking its the muts nuts, then riding a decent bike.. "oh"

If you want to build a proper system spend the money, go for a decent amp and if it were me I'd only buy B&W speakers, you can get some bargains on ebay if you go for the older systems. 601's perhaps if you want a small system?

That there is no doubt about, however as JTM said, a cheap amp and speakers will generally sound a whole lot better than pc speaker systems. I don't profess to be an audiophile, but i do know that beyond a certain level, the sound quality you get from a pc will be limited by the audio hardware in the pc. Since most people use either on-board sound, or relatively cheap soundcards, then a cheap amp and speaker setup will match that. Unless your spending upwards of £100 on a sound card then more expensive amp and speaker setups will basically sound pretty much identicle due to the input signal being the same, not soo hot, quality.
