  1. Incorrect.

A K03 hybrid will be a FAR better drive than a K04. My friend's stage 2 K03s @ 230bhp was so much more fun to drive day to day than mine @ 300bhp. Much more punchy, like a jack russell compared to a bulldog. Yes it ran out of puff at the top end, but it was amazing mid range.

It depends on what mods you currently have on the car as to where you go from here. It will cost about the same in the end to go K03 hybrid or K04 (or even k04 hybrid for a bit more...although then you will need rods).

If you get a K300 hybrid from Beach Buggy Turbos, and have a decent flowing setup with wmi, you could be pusing as much as 310-320bhp. In your postition, I would go for the K03 hybrid, having driven 2 cars with similar levels, then K03 hybrid delivers the power in a far more exiciting manner.

Interesting read, thank you! Are there any other companies you would suggest for doing hybrid conversions? There seems to be a large difference in price/internals used and it's hard to find and quality information on the subject...

    K03s Hybrid Vs. K04?

Which is cheaper? - I fear this may rise some debate?!

Am I right in thinking only the following is required for a hybrid conversion:

    • Ko4 Core assembly
    • LCR/S3 injectors (370cc) on 3bar
    • 80mm MAF housing and TIP/filter to suit
    • Ported stock manifold
    • FMIC
    • Remap
    • What about rods?
  3. Mike, will read your post properly in a second but have you checked your alternator clutch pulley? I recently had to replace mine (you can hear a funny cracking/knackered bearing noise at idle/certain speeds). If its broken then the alternator won't spin correctly/at all and hence won't charge the battery (I first noticed it when my battery light came on every so often). Could be worth checking?

  4. I am tempted to do a few mods to the Cupra (Re-map, 3" exhaust, FMIC?) However, I am now reading horror stories of bent conrods? Is it all worth it? I'm not looking for crazy power,~230bhp sounds good to me. What can the standard clutch take?

Edit: Just realised that Ebay exhaust I keep asking about is a de-cat system (derr!) so I assume it will fail an MOT emissions test?

  5. Did you notice a power increase? Don't suppose you have a photo of the tailpipe on the eBay system? I assume its just a round 3" tube? (Hard to see on photo's).

On a side note, decided to build my own pressure bleeder using an eezibleed and a cheap garden sprayer off eBay (plus a pressure gauge). Not used it yet but should do the job well!

    Good work adam!

Craig: my 3'' ebay system really isn't that loud at all. it's far quieter than jardo's S3 system for example. it's also HUGELY cheaper than any other alternative, and really decent quality.

Id be tempted to get the ebay system, spend £20 on an outward rolled tailpipe, and see how you like it. IF you found it too noisey, it'd be about 2 hours work and £40 to add in a proper centre box to drop the noise level right down.

  6. I have been smacking the living day lights out of it with a lump hammer for hours! Going to try again in a bit...

    Hit it harder!

Hold the driveshaft vertically in one hand (with the CV joint you want off at the bottom), and smack the back of the CV joint with a hammer. It shouldn't be that difficult to get off, a couple of blows and it should just fall off.

  7. I am having an absolute nightmare with my LC. I am attempting to replace the CV boots (I wish I bought those cheap driveshafts now!).

I have the driveshaft off (it was well and truly seized to the hub) but now I cannot for the life of me get the outer CV joint off the shaft. I am using a socket extension on the inner part of the joint (debatable I know) and smacking it as hard as I can. I just can't get it to pop over the circlip. Any advice?!

  8. Driveshafts and CV joints are different things, and that listing is for a joint less driveshaft.

    The driveshafts cost a fortune.

The listed driveshaft comes with both the inner and outer CV joints...

  9. Both CV Boots are ripped on my LC. I'm in two minds if to replace just the boots or the whole joint? On my clio with a similar problem I simply replaced the whole drive shaft as they were so cheap. I think there around £70 a piece for the cupra?

    Opinions?

On second thoughts, looks as if you can pick complete driveshafts up cheaply!

    £26.99!!

This is the company I used for my clio shafts and had no problems with them...

  10. Eeek!!!! :D :D :D

    Nice!

Does that Ebay exhaust require any re-mapping or other modifications? Any noticeable change in MPG?

I now have the Cupra and love it! Need to check the brakes out though as it slow speed coming to a stop it feels as if they are pulsating slightly as if one of the discs may be warped slightly.

  11. Has anyone got any experience with the new "continuous insurance enforcement" law? I.e. If your car is off the road but is not declared SORN then it requires insurance.

I ask as I will be cancelling my insurance policy on my old car and leaving it on the drive (there's plenty of tax left) for a couple of weeks until I manage to sell it. As far as I understand you receive a warning letter in the post first?

EDIT: Looks as if you do get a letter first: http://stayinsured.askmid.com/ial.html

  12. Ooh that exhaust looks good! Would I have to remap the car or make any other changes to support it? (Like re-jetting carbs to match an exhaust?...I'm a little old school!) What's the sound like too? Any effect on MPG?

Loads of questions and I've not even picked the car up yet!

    Dave =)

  13. I did it! Now the proud owner of an FR! Only managed to haggle £150 off the price but it is in very good condition. I am already thinking of a new exhaust silencer...nothing outrageous but something that amplifies that beautiful sound just a tiny bit more?
