  1. also...i only used an example of a few guys i know who do alot of the low rep/high weight exercises as evidence that its not necessarily the best way to build explosive fast muscles....the relevant information there being that with their extensive work in that area, they are considerably slower than someone like myself who does very little of that type

    From what i've learned, training for more strength increases fast twitch muscle fibres and it is fast twitch muscle that is mostly used for trials. You seem to be pushing the idea that if you train for strength you'll be slower, which just isn't true.

    Sorry, but TRA is probably one of the best people to be listening to in this kind of thing. Him saying i've no education in this is not really of relevance to its accuracy. Formal education isn't the be all and end all of something. In fact, a lot of what is taught in education is typically behind the forefront in its respective field. I've no formal education in cooking, however i can make a nice curry. Should people ignore my recipe because i have no formal education? Also, some of the things you've said regarding muscle types and training don't seem to correlate with what i've learned. If you could back up your points with relevant information that'd be cool.

    With regards to the topic, from what i've gleaned personally i'd say things like deadlifts, wide grip pull ups and squats would be what you would want to concentrate on from a trials perspective. Also working on stretching and extending your own bodys range of movements is something that is often missed. Get working on being able to place your palms flat on the floor while keeping your legs and back straight ;) these guys work on flexibility in almost every part of the body, helped me out quite a bit in terms of rolled forward shoulders from too much time at a computer desk/poor posture.

    Yeah, pretty much. Put them on and kinda liked them. The clamp system isn't the greatest but they're certainly doing the job!

    And while nothing mjor has changed there are a few touches here and there that have made it a metric f**ktonne nicer to ride. I finally got my forks sorted. Stripped them down, replaced the seals, replaced crush seals, clean out all tubes and internals and disassembled the mission control system. Put new oil in and after blowing seals and over a year of oil leaking down the fork leg they finally work. The cranks no longer creak and click with each pedal. The DMr's have been benched in favour of hognesiums whilst i sort the bearings and bushings in the DMR's, although now i've seen the DMR vaults i'm highly inclined to get a set of them. New tyre, new rear shock spring and floating rotor up front. The saint rear mech being added was like a difference between night and day in terms of gear changing. it shifts up gears with so much force it's unreal. Oh, new rear brake too....

    So here she is now...

    It's astonishingly bright, it looks amazing. Sorted out a few issues like putting double the fork oil back in so it's back to recommended amounts and setting the top crown up so it doesn't catch on the frame. Feels loads better. Only real issues we had were the bearings for the rear swingarm. They were seized on very well indeed and unfortunately the arm got a little dented whilst trying to get them off.

  8. 240 lumens? It's not 1999.

    Lumens are a very poor measure on the brightness of a light as there are no industry standards when measuring. Some quote "potential output" based on the optimum configuration, some quote diode output in general (not after being soldered to the manufacturers circuit or power supply) and some quote brightness at 1 metre from the output.

    Most chinese websites quote lumens as a best case scenario from the diode. What comes out of a claimed 1600 lumen light might only be a little brighter than that of a 300 lumen one from somewhere else.

    In the case of the mj872 though, it's somewhat comparable to the hope vision 4. Not my own personal experience mind, but this website seems pretty reliable and has loads of lights in an easily comaparable chart. Should be a good port of call for anyone looking to buy a new light.

  9. But macallister are awful! If you are going to get budget, then Ryobi are about the best. They are usually on decent offers too, and the cordless one plus range all use the same batteries so you can get more bodies and use the same batteries :) Good for the not so hardcore user.

    I have a ryobi set as well. The macA out-torques it every time. It'll nip up any screw a little tighter than the ryobi/B&D will.

  10. i was thinking the same, i'd imagine a shorter frame would be a bit flickier and fun, and may ease the transition from riding a zoot to a big bouncy thing, cause even a short is miles bigger than a trials frame (thats a wild assumption so feel free to shoot me down on that) i'm sure i could fix it with a different bar and stem. so excited to get into this! tomm i have sent you a pm, please get back i'm so excited it hurts haha. i'm in the beleif that the last bike i rode was a short cause the owner wasn't much over 5ft and i still enjoyed that bike...

    No you're not wrong. With totems on the front my stinky has a wheelbase of around 1300 if i remember correctly. Cockpit feels nice and snug though so it is beautifully nimble at the same time. Just nipping to the shops becomes something to look forward too :lol:

  11. Just go in a shop and look at a couple to see if you can get on with the remote/style of the tv. Note down the model number and go find it cheaper online.

    Given you've ruled out half the options you've only really left us with one you like and one that's cheap, both of which you can ascertain for yourself.

    For basic tv viewing 40" will not benefit from 1080p. So pretty much any flatscreen that has HDready will be futureproofed, just in case you change your mind later ;)

    I would be highly inclined to say a plasma would be a better choice for you as they generally display non-hd content better and most cheap LCD's will bug you after a while as film credits and scrolling text in general is usually juddery and hard to read.

  12. Ah, I always followed 2g of protein for every kg of body weight. Admittedly I'm getting way more than that at the moment though, and that's just from my diet.

    I weigh 175lbs at the moment, get around 200g of protein a day and split it over 4 meals. (All I can manage really due to work), so heading for the higher end of the scale anyway.

    If I was cutting though I'd be aiming for 150g though.

    I personally won't be dropping my calories for a cut when next summer rolls around. I'll be overloading on carbs and calories for 1-2 weeks as well as decreasing time between protein intake. This shunts your metabolism into a faster rate and then after 1-2 weeks you drop nearly all carbs and calories except for an average amount at the beginning of each day while maintaining protein intake at the same level. Your body is then using the same metabolism rate as the week before but without your calorie overload so it burns off fat REAL quick. Takes about a week again for your body to adjust and then fat loss drops to what is normally expected.

    I'm 6'5" and I really like my small stinky (don't over-read into that :lol: ). Sometimes i think it's a tad small, maybe a medium would have been better but it's so flicky that i really don't care.

  14. If want to get lean/ripped I'd say stick with that and see how it goes. Maybe look at adding some more carbs in, but bring it up slowly.

    The one thing I'd change really would be to cut the protein intake down to about 150g. Still 3 times what you need to survive (roughly), so you'll have enough in there to build some muscle as well. You'll just be shitting out the extra 110g.

    He wouldn't be wasting anywhere near as much as that. .8 to 1.3 grams of protein per pound of body weight. If you weight 145 pounds (10 stone), your daily protein intake should be anywhere from 116 grams to 189 grams of protein per day. It's well advised to split this up over 6 or so meals per day.

    I personally would be looking at 290g of protein per day at the highest end of the scale.

  15. Yeah i'll be goin' triple clamp. Had a quick look on Southern downhill most guys run Fox 40's or Boxxers. One of my mate is still running a set of 2001 shivers which are great. How much roughly would i need to budget to get forks serviced?

    £100 to £150 depending on where you go and what you have done.

    I stripped mine down and replaced the oil myself not so long ago. It was really easy.
