  1. Hey Guys,

I've been doing the weekly video thing for a while, and I haven't been posting all of them here because that would feel pretty darn weird. I think the single thread thing that Ali and Flipp are doing makes sense. I never started one because I wasn't sure how long this weekly thing would go on, but it seems to be sticking. Also, I've noticed you guys have posted a couple of my vids in another thread, thanks for that! Glad you enjoyed some of them. Here is my first contribution to the thread.

    Loved it @jamesb

Really enjoyed the shoulder dab lines. Because why not, it’s not a competition after all :) if anything you should be offered style points for it.

You look so so comfortable on the bike. Brakes and hub sound spot on, and by that I mean, I can’t hear the brakes but can almost certainly hear the hub. Sounds great! Would you say it inspires any more confidence riding the I9 over any other set up you’ve used? Is the noise noticeable when jibbing?

What sort of rebound figures are we talking? Do you have the fork set up reasonably stiff and fast, or any extra tokens?

Thanks Ross. The I9 is the best hub I've ever had. Unreal engagement. A tight chain and this hub combined makes everything else feel bad! The noise isn't noticeable by me, but everyone else notices it. People ask me what's wrong with my bike. Is there a motor? I scared some guy bad because he thought I was a rattle snake coming up behind him.

In the fork, for trials I run the compression open, but max pressure and slowest rebound. The compression is open to save my wrists.

For skateparks I close the compression for a good pump and predictable take-offs. Same pressure and rebound always closed. The pike comes with a big spacer in it already. I took it apart and realized it didn't need any more tokens.

Inspirational ! Each video you release give so much pre ride motivation ! Thanks for sharing.

(If I remember well, John Langlois did Bar to nose press drop in. Instagram story years ago. When he was riding the Iron. I asked the video but it may take some times to find it haha )

Haha I thought he might've beat me to it! Thanks!

Thank you for your videos !

Love what you are riding. I had a planet x jack flash in the early 2000s, I loved that frame. Manuals for days... Any idea what a similar frame is in todays world? I have woods I need to build trails in... Come visit north carolina and ride !

Thank you, the legendary AndyT! I'd say the flash was far ahead of its time. That's why it did so well! If you want a bike for jumping, most modern dirt jumpers would do great. If you want gears and the ability to ride trails, I'd go with something from Chromag personally. Jeff Lenosky is on Reeb I think. I have no experience with them but they look nice too. Not sure about the rear end on those for trials braking though. But yeah, my dream hardtail trail bike would be a chromag.

  5. Apparently I asked a question I should not have asked. I should have chosen to remain ignorant. Now to dig myself into a deeper hole... is there a video of Sam or maybe Martin Soderstrom doing top tier front brake tricks? The best inspiration I've found is the Front Brake Brethren. This video gets me stoked.

  6. Where I'm from the bmx riders all call my bike an MTB. Dj and mtb kinda get lumped together.

I've seen bar foot jam combos before, which is why I was surprised to never see it done with a brake. It was pretty easy in the end. It's probably been done by a slope guy messing around with brakes or a bmx guy playing on a dj bike. I asked here because some of you have been around a long time.

  7. I was not stoked on most of the footage when filming this. Then I started editing and this came out! I like it, especially the last clip! Can't get that song out of my head. - hopity, hopity, hop...

On a serious note, bar to nose pick might be the first done on MTB? If someone's done it I'd like to know. I'm sure the Front Brake Brethren have done it on bmx.

What bike are you riding james?

It's a Trek ticket. I built it up with my dream spec. It's the first bike I built completely how I wanted from the start. Pike, I9 hub, chromag bars, code brakes etc. There is a (slightly dated) bike check on my yt channel.

  9. I had a lot of trouble with this one. I've been struggling with myself more than usual, in part because of the loss of future plans due to the virus. I was originally going to use sad mumble rap for the video. I even finished some dark edits using Lil Peep and Bones songs - but I felt a little ashamed uploading those to youtube. Then I came across an old passion, folk metal. So I used this song, Hope by Eluveitie. "Unite the tribes" is a lyric in another Eluveitie song, and it felt fitting to my style of riding. A blend of everything. blah blah here's the vid...

Wow that was a good video! As already mentioned definitely reminiscent of big Jeff and the American riders but so much more than that. Mega inventive lines and very inspirational. I kind of want to build a bike with suspension up front!

What frame and forks are you running? (Asking for a friend haha)

Thanks! It's a trek ticket and a Rockshox pike dj. Skip past the shitty vlog intro and you can see all the details in this video:

  11. I started filming during a solo sesh immediately after my last video. Cycling isn't banned in Canada, but dangerous sport isn't considered cool right now. I kept this one safe and solo (not much of a change to normal). Stoked on a few lines. Decade tap was on my list for forever.

Not all trials, but a fair bit. Mostly clips from vlogs that I cut out to put into this edit. Just the riding so you don't need to skip over the vlogging bits ;) Also, At the Drive-in, because those were the days...
