  1. I used to just run a virtual machine on my macs which then had Windows XP or 7 on - best of both worlds. I don't like the dual boot as it means you have to restart the machine if you want to switch OS. VMware Fusion is a great example of a virtual machine, it just runs like an application thus, you can use 'spaces' to switch between the 2 OS's.

Not an immediate fix I know, but Microsoft Office for mac is awful with loads of bugs. I have recently switched back to PC's at work after using Macs for over 3 years... Actually prefer PC now, Windows 7 is fairly decent...

  2. Indeed. I try to avoid Facebook whenever possible - I have friends who don't have jobs, sit at home and update every 2 seconds to the latest 'news' of what their kid had done or doing. Nobody finds their kid interesting except them; but I guess if all you have in your life is a Facebook page, you do run out of options.

The lack of privacy is pretty shocking. I once did a test of a random facebook friend - using the information I managed to get hold of his email address, password and in turn access to his online banking information, ebay, amazon, paypal accounts...It's very easily done. Fortunately for him I'm not the malicious sort and I did tell him - however there are a lot of people who would have used that information and hung him out to dry.

I would happily bet that I could ring up a couple of my friends, claim to be from Facebook and explain they have some virus and I need to reset their account, for which I need a password...I'd bet most would give it me without any question.

People are thick. Which I don't know if it is a good thing or a bad thing.

Haha It's quite scary how people can be naive sometimes to what sort of information Facebook and these social networking sites can potentially let out. Common procedures from some employers in office and management sectors use Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Google, Linked In etc as a tool to find information out about there employee. You may think what has personal life got to do with professional life but, I know a few people now who have actually been made redundant from there jobs because they have posted Facebook status's about a co-worker, day time activities, night time activities and thoughts. I know now that after a job interview similar procedures can happen with using social networking sites to try and gain information. Facebook isn't that bad now if you set up your privacy settings properly though.

This 'Facebook Places' thing again sounds like something that may have some cool uses, but lets out a lot of private information you may not be aware of or want to share openly.

  3. Cool beans Maxxie. Great day on Saturday thoroughly enjoyed it! Great to see some old and new faces as always and most importantly everyone brought together for Beau! Unfortunately couldn't make Sunday's ride, hope it was a great day for those who went :)

  4. It has already been about 5 days now, it still is in Peru!

I live in France by the way!

It can take up to a week or two before it has gone through customs for international shipping and show on the tracking.

Ah sorry, well it will be the same for France I imagine.

  5. I tend to ride MK a fair bit during the week in the evenings. As said the 'grid system' (which to be fair is built primarily for Shopping) can get tedious quickly as most of it is exactly the same, there are however some great spots out of the central area but requires riding fair distances between places and are not lit up well/at all..... There is a great bunch of lads in MK though who ride often, get involved :)

  6. Just got back from Bournemouth to pick up my new motor so all set for tomorrow, just to clarify Victoria Square is before you get to the white walls if you are coming from New Street train station. As Ed said has all the lion thingy statues and steps/fountains,

    See you all tomorrow!

  7. Ahhhh i know dude, just fairly chipped. I might go for a bright colour yet, gotta choose by saturday!!!

You out riding any time soon mate??

haha yer I guess that's my fault for the chips in it... I sold that frame to Stu :P Yer I'll be riding Sunday with you guys hopefully, spoke to Stu earlier.

  8. (PhatMike here again)

Think I'm right in saying I'm the only UK rider to have ran them (for about 18 months in fact).

    Short verdict: Excellent

Very easy to adjust, and stiff as anything. You've got loads more sensitive adjustment than other types, including dishing the wheel to centralise it. They're fairly fiddly to take wheels in/out, but it's worth it. :)

  9. The 1.2's come really well equipped to get you going, but a bit of upgrading goes a long way!

Rear hub: This is a standard shimano unit, and should be changed first, either to a Hope Pro2 or Chris King, or swap cranks and hub to a front freewheel set up.

Brake Pads: Again, standard magura blacks - fit some new ones, preferably with metal backings

Headset: Plastic components, dies quickly. Fit a decent one

Chain tensioner: Comes with a derallieur, swap it for a singlespeed chain tensioner, then ditch the gears

Those are the key ones, from there I'd swap the chain to something suitable, tyres (Shwalbe Big Betty rear and Racing Ralph up front are a perfect match), cranks and pedals maybe, and then play with stem stackers and the like to get a feel for changing geometries.

Like Nick, I run the standard frame, forks, bars and stem (and rear rim).
