Helmets Originally helmets wernt ''cool'' now i rarely see anyone riding trials without a helment and when they are in videos etc people will always highlight the stupidity to ride without one.

sweet, i need to get out on my bike, as recently my fitness is terrible, and i dont enjoy riding on my own too much as it is a bit boring hah, and i dont get the chance to learn somuch new stuff and improve like i would like to!

just a stab in the dark, was hoping there might be sme trials riders from kingston/surbiton! as i have just got my bike here and was hoping to have some people to ride with cheers ollie

Right so here goes, Im off to kingston upon thames to uni to study aersospace engineering, and i was wondering whether or not it is worth taking my bike, for starters, will i have anybody to ride with? in other words is anybody on here going to kingston or live in the area near by who rides? is the area any good for riding in? and for those of you who are already at uni is it worth taking my bike, will it be too much of a distraction, or will it never see the light of day? But yeah was just wondering if its worth taking and if it will get used thank you Oli

Yes indeed, i tried this the other day and it did not work. If you look on a rim the holes are offset to the side the spoke should come from, so therefore if you try to lace it on to a 32 hole rim the spokes will be on the wrong side of the rim, on every other bit after missing a spoke. (if that makes sense) So if you wanted to miss spokes out you would have to do it in sets of two therefore considerably weakening specific points on the rim! Also considering the strength of the rim already is it wise to be missing spokes? Cheers Ollie

Is that the frame with the 116mm hub spacing? If it is i don't run that particular frame but i do run an echo control mod-stock, i just run a fixed hub on the rear (a zoo mod hub) with a 15 tooth cog, and then i run an 18 tooth front freewheel (tensile) and this has been good for me. Although if i could have gone for anything a Chris King bmx hub, it is awesome. My mate runs one and engagement wise i have not felt anything better! So if you are on a budget, front freewheel or if money is no object a Chris King bmx hub! Cheers Ollie

I used to get shin-digs all the time and they are really painful, so I can sympathies with you! My legs are now covered in scars because of it. Then i invested in six six one shin pads and they do protect the back of your legs. I got mine from Halfords for around 30 quid and not had any problems since , the only problem is they get to smell after a while if you don't wash them ha ha. But they are machine washable! veggie shin pads Cheers Ollie

At the moment, more than ever i keep hearing about people losing parts of there bikes to save on weight. I was looking at all the different posts on the forum about cutting the round holes in your rim to square ones. Cutting massive holes in your head tube and drilling all sorts of holes all over the bike. Is it me or are those pieces not there for a reason. Surely by cutting holes and drilling everywhere you are considerably weakening your bike. For me if i am about to do something i would like to think i have a whole bike underneath me that is not likely to snap in 17 different places. This then lead to me thinking what is the lightest bike you could build? (Without the dieting and hole drilling!) Am i one of the only people who likes riding my obese bike, it gives me that little extra confidence. Admittedly I'm not doing massive stuff but My bike still manages to break! How do these people who do massive things not need a new bike every week? How much of a difference does an extra light bike make? Cheers Ollie

haha, well i have been proven wrong lol. its alright for some with a hole spare bike anyway, i barly got a spare innertube in my bag haha

but as an experienced rider do you carry a bleed kit for example along with a spare bb, brake lever, freewheel i guess its for the more unexpected problems with a bike, and also maybe by having it it would save space in back packs and leave more room for food haha as people would know the van would have the spares? i dono if thats me being sill though

well personally i think the idea is good, wh would'nt i as i thought it hahaha. but yeah its just how possible would it be to do. i would also have to figure out demand and running costs also would have to get a van tools etc. it wont happen soon if atall for me but depending on demand is wether i look into going ahead with maybe a mini version to start with and trial it. if it is sucessfull go ahead with making it bigger etc.

personal opinion for me is a magura hs33 on the back, and an avid bb7 on the front i run my hs33 with a medium grind and brown koxx blocks. i never have problems with brake slips or anything. not even in th wet. my tyres fail before my breaks... lol as i said its all personal preference though.

well i guess the idea would be for the person running the van to join the ride and ride themselves so therefore they would be not really doing it as a job but more as a hobby. i would also have thought that for it to work i would have to run a shop to be able to afford parts and running costs1!

The other day, as you do just thinking about what i wanted to do in the future and some how i came up with an idea of travelling trials spares! I dont know if anyone has thought of this one before, but say there is a massive ride going on somewhere you could roll down in your van stocked up with tools and the usual spares. e.g, brake bleeding facilitys, innertubes, maggie parts, bottom brackets etc. well anyway i was thinking if you had that at a ride. would people be willing to use it. is it just a stupid idea and would not work. has anyone else done this or similar. Do you think it would be possible to make a profit from? Anyways cheers guys. Ollie.

buy bmx chain tugs and run them on the inside as the washers, that should do the job! ollie

dont worry if he hates it even though i aggree with him but if you like it why does it matter, like i rode a mission and it did me good but now ive riden better bikes i can see how bad it is but aslong as you like it and your riding trials everything is ok

you should never need to tighten a freewheel, when its on your bike when you pedal it will tighten otherwise if you were to pedal it would just screw off

does your bike even see light... thats probs what itll be for me next year

personally im finding that at the moment i am having troubles fitting everything in, i am currently looking for a saturday job to fund my riding but im worried if i get one there will be no time to ride. i am currently in year 11 at school so obviously alot of revision and coursework, also i play golf and i ride, the dark nights dont help either!!! see im finding that my revision and coursework takes up alot of my time and also playing golf and if i was to include a job with this i dont think riding would happen as much as i want, do any of you suffer the same problem or simlar problems with time?

thats a good idea mate, i wouldve thought your best bet is to start small making things like brake boosters and other things like this as they will be inexpensive to produce so you arnt going to loose lots of money if it dont work anyway, i would be interested in buying something like a booster if it was custom
