The bar came with the frameset. I'll probably change those for some risers soon.

Just finished building this up. Just needs setup and fine tuning now. This is my first trials bike - I previously did trials in the early '90s on a GT Zaskar XC bike.
Spec:
Frame - 24-7 Holroyd with horizonal rear dropouts at 116mm spacing.
Forks, stem and bar are Holroyds too
Wheels - Echo TR hubs, Trialtech Sport rims, Echo TR 16T sproket
Tyres: 2.4 Continental Rubber Queen, 2.2 Continental Mountain King Supersonic
Try-All cranks with Tensile 18T freewheel with Neon bashring
Brakes - Hope Mono Mini front with Gusset 180mm front disc, Magura rear with Echo lever and yellow pads
Gasset Slink halflink chain.
DMR V12 Mag pedals

oh my god, if the seller had just spent an extra 10 mins putting together that ad he'd have made an extra £100!

I can't really say that ever set of wheels like this will go for that amount. I was very lucky. I've seen similar wheels go for between £70-120. I was hoping for £120. I was very pleased when bidding got to £142, and blown away at £250. I really didn't expect £400 though.

Gone up £20 since posting this. I have 13 more items going on at 9pm including retro Oakleys, modern Oakleys, retro bike bits and retro GT and Marin clothing (1991 and 1993).
I'm Hoping the cranks get a few last minute bids, was Hoping for around £75. The XT rear mech could go for more too.

From memory, the front hub is 65g!!!
Also - the Middleburns I am selling are around 90g lighter than their current model!
Will be interesting to see how much I get for the unused 16 year old Onza Porcs Kevlar (pair) - still 7 days on those though.

I'm currently building up my first modern trials bike. In order to pay for it (as the other half wants me to save every penny for our wedding), I broke my old trials/XC GT Zaskar from 1993 for parts. Turns out I'm going to have quite a bit of cash left over. With 4.5hrs to go, my old wheels are selling for more than I paid for them in 1994! More than today's equivalent would be new!

A few other bits have exceed expectation with a few lagging waiting for last minute bids (Middleburn RS1s).
I alreadey sold my cantilever brakes for £75 and an old Ringle bottle cage for £20.
I guess some people want the retro stuff and will pay a lot to get it. I'm keeping my fingers cross.... lol.
I've got plenty more retro bits to go on there, including the Zaskar frame.

Mine is also a Mono Mini. I'll deffo grab a 180mm. I have new genuine Hope pads on there, so they should be ok. I think I may already have an ISO to ISO +20mm mount somewhere already too.

Cool. I understand why bigger ones stop better, but just wondered if 160mm would be up to the job. Looks like I'll go with 180mm then.

Hi - I'm building my new bike up and wondered if it is worth having larger discs? There is about a 60gram penalty for doing so. Do you need 180mm on a trials bike?

Lol - to me, an old school trials bike is a cross country bike with the saddle down and the largest chain ring removed!

Love the way it starts with the fails in order to demonstrate how difficult it it. He then goes on to do some pretty good stuff once he is used to it. Pity most people seems to turn off after the first few fails. However, I'm not sure of the point in riding brakeless, unless of course you have no money to buy them.

My tensile needs a Shimano Hypergride lookring removal tool. Yours is probably the same, Halford should stock it. You will also need a big bench vice and big arms.

The Wellgo MG1s are 298g. The DMR v12 Mags are 434g, but you save 80g by fitting the ti axels. Either way, the Wellgos are much lighter and cheaper. I don't think I've seen a lighter pedal than the MG1s advertised anywhere.

I was in the same boat a month back and couldn't find anything I was really happy with at the price I wanted to pay. Instead, I opted to build one myself using bits from ebay and tartybikes. So far:
Holroyd frame, forks, bars, stem, headset (FSA) and bottom bracket (FSA) off ebay (new) £100
Magura HS33 rear 4 with post mounts (new) ebay £35
Hope Mono Mini 183mm wavey disk (used) ebay £37
Cranks (Try All), freewheel (Tensile), guard (Neon) (new) Tarty £125
Wheels Echo TR hubs, Trailtech rims, Echo sprocket (new) Tarty £220
Half link chain (new) ebay £15
Grips £5
Yellow Magura pads (new) ebay £8
Genuine Hope pads (new) ebay £14
I already had tyres and pedals. So far the cost is around £550 and the bike would cost around £1000 to buy an equivalent bike new. I was however lucky with the bargain frame (and bits) for £100 to start with. You have to be patient and wait for bits on ebay though - I was lucky with the HS33s and hopes too. Used wheels was difficult as I needed a mod stock rear. Used cranks always looked a mess and they was no way to know the condition of the freewheel, so bought those new too. Oh - it could have made it cheaper but I was going for a good balance of price, weight and reliability.
I should have all the bits through the post soon and built up in a couple of weeks (photo to follow).
Alternatively, I've seen a few decent used bikes going for around the £400 mark on ebay. Good luck.

I always used AirWalks or Vans with thin soles in the past, they seems to work well. I would use any lightweight bendy shoe with a flatish grip to be honest - currently have some Oakley shoes which fit the bill. If you have issues with your shins getting hit, maybe some shin pads would be an idea? I have some 661 pads which seem pretty good.

I don't get it either. The most friction possible is between two very flat surfaces. Grinds reduce the surface area, so surely the braking performance is worse. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Get some slicks on there and you have a great city bike that nobody would ever steel!

When I was working on a contract for Anglian Water I was loggin pressures of their water supply networks in order to build computer models. Anyway, in order to do this you need to lift hydrant covers to connect the loggers to the hydrants. In one pit I found a big stash of "E". Obviously I reported it to the police, who then staked it out until someone came along to collect them - who was quickly arrested. Found a nice Sekonda watch in another.
