  1. My Dad works in engineering, and the price of all metals is going up. Stainless steel has increased massively in price, so soon enough we'll be looking at frames that last year cost £300 soon cost £400-500 he reckons.

Unfortunately we're running out, I'm not certain but I think metals are non renewable? When we've empied the ground of the ores then thats it.

don't think that will happen any time soon................................

as for material going up in price.............tell me about it, cheap titanium............£104 per kg

  2. Don't think the mount is a mistake. Think BIU rules, stock with bash could be on the drawing board. I bet that a stock with bash would appear at this years BIU WC's - looks like will loose unless on shows up in Japan.

would be interesting to see a stock with a bash plate, although it is unesesary weight, looks like they have just mocked a frame up to me.............................

  3. dropouts look a bit different as well, looks better without all the gussets around the seat tube. no disc mount also, looks to be a proto rear hub as well.

monty should shot peen then anodise frames!!!! would make the quality of the finish so much better!!!!

  4. Doesnt matter if the rocks and logs are free it still costs lots of money to lift and transport them. Looks like someone has put alot of time and effort into that park. well done. obviously not that clever though....gravel run ups??

gravel run ups....................not for long, im taking a rake with me next time................call in the tarmacers...............

  5. They look good, but could they sort out bearings?

I'm on my 4th Pro2, and my 4th set of replaced bearings.

I've cracked one and stripped the ratchet on 2 of them, crushed 2 of the smaller driveside bearings and 2 of the larger non drive bearings. Also snapped 4 springs.

Still the best hub I've ever used, but from my point of view the 2 main points of improvement are the bearings and the ratchet stripping.

How either of these could be improved I've no idea, but it seems the depth of threads on the ratchet isn't sufficient or needs stronger metal in the driveshell.

the bearing issue was taken on board a long time ago, still in development, a needle roller bearing is the general idea at the moment for the ratchet body.

the pro 2 mod hubs use custom stainless steel bearings.

  6. thats so nice, whats the wieght ? wil there be a non disc version ? :D looks soo soo pimp

weight is less than most similar hubs on the market, although the general rule we came up with yesterday was that weight would not be compromised for strength.

At this point people seem to be asking for disc/ non-disc, through axle, bolts, snails, no snails, however the market of trials components in which hope manufacture is very small, predominantly they manufacture mountain bike components for cross country, freeride and downhill, where there is more demand and need, they are even swaying more into the road market, with literally hundreds of hub/colour/ spoke drilling/ mounting combinations available mean that they dont really want to be doing trials in disc/ non disc options, as somebody pointed out in an earlier post for the screw on hub alone there would be over 40 combinations to manufacture, this is a lot of work for hope especially with plans for a screw on and ratchet version in 110mm

basically at this point in time, hope would manufacture the screw on mod hub with a disc mount, in 32 and 36 hole, in the 6 colour options

and a pro2 mod hub with a disc mount, in 32 and 36 hole, in the 6 colour options,

otherwise there would literally be hundreds of options............ a disc mount on the hub literally adds grams.......... not worth bothering about removing in all honesty

I love how hope are so small they can do this sort of thing in a week but so big they can knock it out in a day.

hope seem to be expanding quite rapidly now, they are well established in the US now and have a broad customer base, lots of exciting new products being thought up, manufacturing products such as hubs, discs, lights, headsets, bottom brackets and full wheel sets as well as all the 'trick bits'.

it is good design and manufacture at hope, run by engineers, one thing hope are good at is the development work and speed at which they operate without flaws.

all they would have done is used the "normal" ProII and used the resize button on the miller!!!!

It is impressive though! are they fully working? IE bearings in etc etc?

Early days yet but when they going into full production? If ever?

COuld they do a make to order? as there are a lot of veriations possible!

wish it was so easy as to hit a resize button lol, far from that, back to the drawing board

    yes fully working prototype,

unsure yet, no set dates, i will keep you posted on progress.

no, that option would simply cost too much and is not feasible.

I've been reading in on this thread a couple of times, and I thought the mod proII idea was great!

But that was yesterday! And there's already a proto! hahaha, legend!

    :D

nice work - pretty sure most riders would prefer normal 8mm allen key bolts to spanner jobs ...

Its a little amusing that hope took like a couple of days to bang out a prototype when people have been asking for years.

I really HOPE this hub is going to happen, and its not gonna sink... Please keep us updated!

  7. should I try it first with an old wheel or immediately start with that hope pro3 wheel?

upto you really with how confident you feel, to be honest even if you do mess the build up, theres nothing stopping you starting it again and its not as though you would damage the parts

  8. I just heared the pro3 bearings are the same size as the pro2 bearings whereas the mono bearings look smaller in the pic I found on CRC.

Does anyone have experience with CRC wheelbuilding? Are they good at it?

as mentioned, the mono has been discontinued but replaced with the pro 3 which features stainless steel bearings made exclusively for hope as well, pretty much just an evolution of the mono front,

    can't go wrong with either.

have a go at wheel building yourself! everyone should try it at least once!
