  1. JP Put the Stella down and walk away from the keyboard!!!
  2. If any of the guys who rode on Sunday have any feedback on the sections please let's here it Were they too easy, too long, spot on, just right, not technical enough? The art of turning the pedals to make the bike go forward seems to be dieing out I watched so many young riders on the blue route hoping the bike along parts of the section that could easily have been ridden. Do we need more sections to encourage more natural riding to compliment their superb street skills? The best way to make this already extremely successful and well supported series even better is to listen to what the riders have to say but the riders have to say it first!! Feedback from all classes will be listened to and noted. The next trial at Brimham Rocks is this weekend so if you missed out last weekend fear not as you still have time to get your entry forms in and if you want a real laugh get there for the Saturday fun trial Fancy is the dress code and fun is the attitude So far I have managed to get the two kids in and the tent in the flying Corsa. The kitchen sink will have to go on the roof and the bikes hooked over the wing mirrors
  3. I agree, an excellent day with a superb vibe we even got some hot sunny weather toward the end of the day to round things off nicely :$ My son rode the green route along with another beginner and we had a great time. The sections were a little tougher than usual but I think they were well received by all the youngsters. This is a spot on venue and is well worth a visit. Thanks to all the observers for today, you made a big difference in getting the queues down and the riders flowing through Can't wait for next weekend, just got to figure out how to get two kids, 3 bikes a big tent and several crates of beer in my Corsa >_<
  4. After Blackpool we will be there The last round was excellent so look forward to taking part in this one The next event sounds good as well so we will be dusting down the tent and getting the beer ready!!
  5. I let young Elliot loose with the camera and he didn't do a bad job, you just need to lean a bit to get the picture straight!!! Cracking weekend cost me a fortune on the slot machines and video games afterwards but the kids deserved it for riding so well Enjoy Wouldn't you just love to live near this lot?? The picture say's it all. John was busy trying to work out if his bingo card was the right way up!!! That's ma' boy
  6. :$ This is an artists impression of me and the kids!! What a day. Last week is was a spot of hypothermia at Cowling Pinnacle and this week sunstroke! A fantastic day and a credit to everyone involved , not only the organisers and observers but all the riders who were being watched by a few more people than normally turn up to a trial to spectate Today was a showcase for the sport and was executed superbly. Blackpool rocked, Brimham is next, Barbara get the sunshine booked and get 'em out.......the entry forms that is
  7. Yep a top day all round. We (read my son) were riding the green route and thanks to the common sense and experience of the organising team we had a superb day. The reason for my praise is that instead of trying to put my son off trials riding for the rest off his life they allowed him to tackle very different and challenging sections which to anyone over the age of 10 looked like a Sunday ride in a very steep and rocky park but to a 6 year old on a small Monty they were very difficult So this is where experience and common sense kicks in. The organisers allowed the kids riding the green route to dab as many times as they needed to which allowed them to get through the section! What a simple idea and because everyone could use the dabs it was also fair The outcome of this well organised and well thought out event was one very tired son who phoned up every relation he could think of to tell them he had won a trophy He then went back to school today and told all his class mates what he had done over the Easter holidays, which in his eyes was only one thing and that was winning his trophy, which he also took to show them. Had the trial been run in such a way that he got a 5 on every section then things would have been very different. He fived the first two sections of the day and the bottom lip was out and quivering but a couple of 3's using as many dabs as he liked turned the tears into a big smile and the confidence to try a tricky drop off on one section Now we have a very proud mum and dad, a very rosy cheeked son and thanks to Waynio a younger son who is determined to get as much air off tree roots as he can A super day, a great social event and a very promising start to this exciting and fresh championship Roll on Blackpool
  8. What a day! It started off dry and looked like we might be in luck but when the wind started to blow I knew we were in for some of the wet stuff......but not that much! However, the weather may have been shite but the atmosphere was superb. I saw one dad getting his son to jump up and down and wave his arms about to get warm before the start of a section. They were laughing and having fun even though they were soaked to the skin. I think everyone who continued to ride even in the muddiest, windiest, slippiest and wettest conditions the quarry could muster should get a medal. My lad (6 1/2 years old) fell off on the last but one section, right into a puddle of mud! He couldn't cry because his face was so cold and wet but he did finish. 5 minutes in the car with the heater on and some chocolate inside him and he was all smiles again. That's what it is all about and that's why we do it. Thankyou to all the observers who stuck at it as well, they were surely the stars of the day. Thanks also to the setting out crew who put their lives at risk from giant size hail stones on the Saturday setting out. I understand Barbara was doing tea leaf readings in the caravan during the day and hopes to be able to expand into the art of communicating with those who cannot be enticed into observing for the next round Spot on Tyke Trials, here's to round 3 P.S We went swimming afterwards just to dry out and warm up!!!
  9. legs straight and touch your toes bend back while supporting lower back lay on your back and one by one bring your knees up to ur chest then try bringing both legs up at the same time All the above are good and I saw a physio who told me to hold each stretch for 5 seconds and then release it. Do this 10 times for each stretch and you will be amazed how much this relieves the back ache. I do it in the morning and at night before I go to bed. A wheat bag - the ones you heat up in the microwave - is also a good way of curing lower back pain. Sit with you back pushed into the back of the settee when you are watching TV with the wheat bag behind you and you will be doing back flips when you get up!! Good luck and take care of your back, if you don't get it sorted now you will suffer big time in your late 30's, take it from someone who knows.
  10. We will be there but unfortunately not to set up - Sorry John. We will be in a forest in the Lake District watching people with far too much money driving Imprezas and the like on the Malcolm Wilson Stages Rally. Can't wait for the Sunday, looking forward to the new idea for the beginners and novices, it should help everyone out. The weather might behave itself, check it out if you are a Fair weather rider only!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/monthly_outlook.shtml or this one: www.idontcareifit.rainson_mytria/section.co.uk Good luck everyone and bring those observers along so we don't have to go begging before the event starts Good luck with the misses Wayne. A bottle of wine and a couple of beers, you are just too kind! Next you will be opening doors for her and farting outside of the duvet!!!! Hurman
  11. The first round of the Tyke Trial championship was blessed with glorious sunshine which makes a change from high winds and horizontal rain that we seemed to get all last year!! The dry conditions allowed some extreme sections to be set out and it still amazes me just how the Expert and Elite guys get up and off some of those rocks There was a very strong entry in the beginners class with over 9 under 10's out on the day enjoying themselves. There are some talented young riders in this group who will only get better as they take part in more trials. The novice class was also well supported and their skills were put to the test on the tricky sections which had been made that little bit harder just to get everyone back into it after the Christmas break The intermediate class was the most popular and had been set out to test everyone. Addingham Moorside has so much to offer and some new areas were used this year to keep everyone on their toes. The expert and elite routes were difficult to walk let alone ride but all the riders attacked them 100% with varying degrees of success. The dry weather did cause one problem and that was very few puddles for my kids to throw themselves in Let's hope this year sees more dry conditions which makes the day so much more enjoyable. The next round is at Oakworht Quarry on March the 4th. See you there.......... Hurman
  12. My youngest started aged 4 (he is now 5) on a hand-me-down car boot special kiddies bike with a modified front sprocket and a lovely red Hamerite paint job He now rides a kids BMX which I dragged out of a skip at our local tip, stuck some old school wide bars on it and put a smaller front sprocket on No expense spared for my kids!! My eldest started aged 5 (he is now 6 1/2) on the bikes mentioned above but now has a shiny Monty 205 Pro which he thinks is the dogs dangley bits Both the kids ride in competitions and are totally knackered when finished. I started at 26 and am still trying at 37. My first bike also came from the local tip but slowly died. Another cheap mountain bike (trials was just starting to be recognised in the UK back then) was my next play thing and now I fall off a Merlin framed custom built bike which is basically a small mountain bike frame with V brakes!! Living the dream........ Hurman
  13. John It hurts to type at the moment! Arms legs back neck knees, pride I'm really glad you talked me into having a go because I had forgotten just how much fun it was and just how crap I had got With any luck I should enter most of the rounds next year assuming I can move by then Wayne You have a really positive effect on the kids, burping, farting shouting and generally acting daft and the kids aren't much better!! Adam cleaned every section on the second round and wanted to do section 6 again so he could show you how well he had done. I totally agree with your comments on how riders have improved over the year, I have noticed some real advances in confidence and skill levels over the year in all classes. Hopefully all this watching will rub off on my riding Now where did I put my gurdle..................
  14. Sunday was the final round of the Tyke Trial championship this year and what a way to end it. 10 sections completed twice gave the 90+ riders a full days entertainment with some frantic section hoping towards the end of the day to get through them all before darkness fell. After a year of mainly wet trials Brimham dealt us a windy but mild and dry end to the year with plenty of grip available and some very well set out sections to challenge all levels. All classes had a healthy entry and the beginner class had it's biggest entry of the year. At one trial there was only one entry for this class but next year is looking promising for a good entry on each round. Two of the beginners dad's were also riding on Sunday along with John Peacock who was showing Robbie all he knew...... so it is becoming a real family affair Thank you to all the organisers and observers for their support and commitment through the year to put on such excellent and well organised events. We are very lucky to have such a good club running in the UK and producing world class riders and bringing on the next generation of riders. There are many people who make the club run but the three key people for me are Barbara, John and Wayne who have been a tremendous help this year and made all the difference to my kids enjoyment at each round. If you would like to be part of this successful team there are places available in the club for various responsibilities, all the details are on the TykeTrials website which can be accessed through http://www.biketrialuk.co.uk Well done to everyone who rode on Sunday and put a great end to a most enjoyable year. Can't wait for 2007
  15. OOOOPPPPSSSSS..........I guess we have been here before? Apologies, will use the search in future. Can anyone send me a copy of the game? It has kept me entertained for a few days and the kids love it
  16. I don't know if this site has been put on here before but this made me laugh! It's pretty realistic but the way the guy falls makes me crease up Maybe I'm just sad but give it a whirl.....hours of fun at work school or college http://www.miniclip.com/games/trial-bike/en/
  17. I think that was actually in the rain. When I took the kids helmets off they had tide marks around their fore heads We also had very sore faces, it was as though we had been shot blasted by the fine sand in the rain. It was truly extreme weather.
  18. Anyone who took part in Sunday's Tyke trial up on Addingham Moorside this weekend deserves a huge pat on the back and an appointment to see the nearest psychologist I think Barbara is secretly training you all for a top secret mission in a place far far away from here where it never stops raining and only the fittest can survive As soon as the trial started the heavens opened and the 30 mph wind was driving the rain through even the highest quality waterproofs. Keeping warm was also a challenge which made the queuing an even more unpleasant experience But everyone plugged away and did their best keeping the usual level of enthusiasm going. One of the biggest challenges was not to get blown off your bike by the wind, riding the sections was secondary. As always a big thankyou must go out to all the observers who braved weather any normal person wouldn't even think about venturing out in and although it was tough for the riders they at least had the chance to move around and get wet in different parts of the venue, the observers however had to keep their post and just take what nature had to give That was until about 45 minutes from the end when the clouds cleared the wind dropped (slightly) and the sun shone, it was like being in a totally different part of the world. The sun lifted everyones spirits and helped the tail enders get round and back to the butty wagon. It was so encouraging to see everyone competing in such appalling conditions and getting on with the job in hand. The weather was crap but the riding and attitude of everyone involved was excellent. Thanks again to Barbara for organising the event and to all the guys who set the sections out on the Saturday in equally diabolical conditions. Can't wait for the next one at the end of the month, a new venue and hopefully some sunshine....please
  19. I was pulling a superb wheelie to impress and amaze a crowd of uniterested parents and kids as we left a cafe to continue our bike ride the other week and as I passed this young kid with her parents she shouted out "wow look at that dad............... he's got a blue bell on his bike!!" My mates still take the mick now! :$ I use my trail bike to commute to work along the Leeds and Liverpool canal so have a bell on my bike to warn dopy dog walkers and Ipod wearing joggers that I am behind them. So how cool was that? If you are out to impress people with your amazing skills and smooth moves make sure you do it infront of a captive audience or one that has paid to come and see you. Otherwise forget it and get on with pushing yourself to get that ohh so good feeling when you get it right. (street or natural!!)
  20. John Sounds like handbags at dawn to me!! Or is it bunny hops at dusk??!! I am up for a practice session sometime next week just let me know when you are available. The doc has told me to stop whining and to get out there and ride but take it easy, whatever that means? Well done to Robbie, he must have been pleased with himself. I think he would have been mightly disappointed had he rode the beginners sections, he would have been forever looking at the white route and thinking 'what if..' Wait until the dads start riding the trials then the lads will get a shock! Retiring is something you do when no one wants to employ you anymore not something you do on a Sunday afternoon when the misses has stamped your pass and freedom is yours (for a short while at least ) I hope the fun trial runs as I am itching to get back on my bike and depress myself at just how unfit, weak and crap at balancing I am
  21. From a non competitors point of view it was clear Sunday was a difficult day. The weather was poor the sections were hard and got harder as the day went on and there were 21 sections in total (3 rounds of 7) all of which were energy sapping. I had trouble getting my youngest to complete all the sections especially when he fell off and hurt himself with 5 sections to go (I think everyone heard him!! ) BUT - they stuck at it and got round, so did a lot of other riders and they were the real winners on the day. I feel it is more important to finish an event than to get a good placing. Getting both is ideal but if you are going to turn up you may as well make the most of it. Obviously mechanical failure is fairly terminal but giving up can be avoided. Anyone who stayed until the end and saw the messing around at the prize giving and the young lads helping the organisers sort out the flags and pack them away would have seen the side of Sunday's event which inspired me to start this topic. It is surprising how much more you get out of your riding if you really get involved with a club because not only do you turn up to an event you turn up to an event you helped get sorted even if it is helping pack up at the end it all goes to help the day run smoothly. If you don't like the way something is done get involved and be heard. Wayne might think he is setting out hard sections to challlenge himself but you might think they are a bit tame so have a word and see what is involved and get involved. Nothing can be done about the weather, we live on an island, but getting the most out of your trials is in your hands. P.S One of the observers sacrificed his entry so the trial could run. Would you do that?
  22. If Carlsberg did slippy trials sections they would probably set them out in Oakworth quarry where Sunday's Tyke trial was held. Some of the Elite sections had been set out to be exceptionally difficult to give the guys who were going to the Singapore and Japan rounds of the world championships a bit of a warm up session but the mixture of drizzle and untouched rock made the sections even more challenging. I was only walking around and letting my kids fall off in the sections and I had a couple of dabs and one 5 :$ The best thing about this venue is how compact it is and gives everyone an opportunity to watch all levels tackle most sections. I don't know how other competitors felt but I had a great day (although I wasn't riding ) but the atmosphere felt very good, even during the presentations when the wind was trying to send us all into orbit there was a good vibe. It's great to see such a healthy trials scene even in the most difficult conditions - apparently it was glorious sunshine on the Saturday when the setting up crew were up there !! Thanks to all the observers who could be identified by the angle they were leaning into the wind and their drizzle soaked clothes. They make such a difference to the way the beginners ride and are all so enthusiastic and positive towards them. Another excellent Tyke trial set out in gods own country.

Here are a few more piccies of the weekend. Enjoy

    2 Day Bash

Wayne That's how I ride as well. I watched quite a few young lads at the weekend and they were hopping and bouncing and balancing when they could have simply ridden over or through the obstacle. I have never ridden a 20" wheeled bike but do know that I get knackered once I start hoping my bike around. I'm all for letting the bike do the work It could also be a complete lack of talent on my part of course!!! Neil
