Apple Osx Users I Need Your Help.

I'm a Windows/Linux user by default, but for a technical assessment on thursday for an ISP I need to know the basics of OSX network setup. Could you answer the following questions please (any relavent screen captures would be greatly appreciated!);

How do I get to the window to change IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS?

How do I change Airport settings? What OSX specific things should I look out for?

What's the process for installing applications from a .exe equivalent?

What window displays network connections?

What window shows dial-up connections?

How do I get to a command prompt/console?

What is the OSX equivalent of IPCONFIG /all and Netstat?

Thanks in advance!

Tom

1) System prefs --> network. (Then click 'show' and select whichever adaptor you wanna change)

2) Some applications have installers, you just need to double-click on them as in Windows. A lot of OS X apps can be run without installing - you just need to drag from wherever you downloaded them, into your applications folder (or anywhere you like).

3) System preferences and internet connect

4) System prefs

5) There's a program called 'Terminal' in applications/utilities

6) Another program called 'network utility', allows you to run netstat amongst other things. Should do everything you need.

ifconfig is the real equivalent to ipconfig in windows. There should be manual pages for it if you bosh 'man ifconfig' in the terminal.
