The garage says he can change it without taking the head off as he can remove the barrel bolts and slide the barrel and head up and off. The head gasket is around £50 and he says it will save disturbing it does that sound right? It is oldish and we think that there will be little bore damage. Unfortunately this is a bicycle trials forum so youre not likely to get a fully informed reply However what he says does make sense, if there is any bore damage then you will have to bite the bullet and get it honed/bored/plated/lined; all depends on how long its run with the broken ring (assuming youre correct with the diagnosis).
