Pc Game Ping Average For 512kb/s Broadband

I post this because im getting 150ms average, for games like Counter Strike and Call of Duty on my 576kb/s service, provided by "Demon".

That is shit. To be honest, response times don't have much to do with the bandwidth of the line. On NTL I usually get less than 20. With BT Broadband I was getting 35 ish. Even on 56k I usually got 60 or so. 150 is waaaaay too high. Either your computer (or one on your network) is running loads of spyware/kazaa etc, or your ISP is really, really bad.

I spent ages talking to a technical support staff member for demon (my isp) who kept fobbing me off with a statement that went along the lines of "unless you pay for a business service i.e. very low contention ratios the fact that more people are using broadband these means you can expect high latency" Which i though was absolute rubbish because on 576k broadband one should get atleast <100ms even on a day with lots of other users online.

Depends on the server.

you should have told people to do something like

run > cmd > ping jolt.co.uk

(jolt.co.uk being a uk based gaming server company)

i dont know what any of it means but thats what happend when i did what you said

i have 512kb and im with telewest about to recieve a free upgarde to 2mb all for £15 a month with free cable

I have 1mb bb with telewest and usually have a decent ping.

Just depends on the location of the server and how many people are on it etc

I usually get between 45 and 300 on my ping, depends weather im on the clan server (germany) of a different one (america)

my ping always says 0 on gunz, is that normal??
