Anyone Tried Just Not Using A Tensioner?

I tried this for a while whilst I was waiting for my tensioner to come. I used a really old chain so it didn't stretch anymore, but it kept making that 'boing' noise >_< It was ok though, as long as pre-loaded the cranks before EVERY move. Couldn't get a comfortable gear either, 19 made chain too tight, and 18 too slack.

Still its a pretty crap idea.

Ok you save some money, but youll need to spend that on repairs.

For one it will make your driveline wear out alot quicker.

And if you land on your chain, hows it going to give?

it wont and it will snap.

Thats why im not a fan of all these new fixed tensioners, no give in the chain.

And before you say " I never land on my chain" You will do someday, land orkward on a rail, pointed wall, anything like that.

Ok its less likely on these new fangled Short rear end bikes, but im happy knowing I have the option to be able to land on the chain, and it not snapping something
