From what i know... It would be ok if you twat it in with a rubber mallet, the problem that you may face is it going in wonkey, which will indeed feck the frame... if you're gonna do it, aquire a metal pole the size of your headset (the inner bit so it can go through the hole) and use that to help you guide it. Or take it to your LBS and they should fit it if they're any good.

I just built the headset on the forks, put them in the frame, put the top of headset on top of forks, tighten all together and there we have it.

fitted.

Problem with that, it might rip the star nut out as they can't take too much pressure (from an experience i had a few weeks ago trying to tighten up my stem)
