Crank Problem

Recommended Posts

Is it a square taper or a spline where it fits onto the BB axle?

What's probably happened is the taper/spline has been deformed (rounded), this lets the bolt tighten up on its own threads rather than pushing the crank on properly.

If it's a square taper, take it off and give everything a good clean. Cut 4 strips out of a coke can and put these between the flats on the axle and the crank. That should help keep it on.

:shifty: My mates crank bolts kept coming undone and we locktited them, its very good at " locking" the bolt in place but there a bugger to undo. He snapped the bolt of in the cranks trying to undo it, which resulted in a new bb  Edited by tom 20

I have the same problem with ISIS I have put a bit of acryllic on the thread of the bolt and it stays in for a bit longer (it works the same as lock tight). I have to get a new crank to stop it completely.

You have to tighten cranks lots or they will come loose.

mine did this on my Square taper monty cranks, They did this because they had come loose and rounded one edge of the square resluting in it not tighting up propely and keep moving every time you pedal which loosens off the bolt!

If its bad you may have to replace your cranks, and maybe BB if the threads have gone! thats what i had to do!
