I brought some new forks today fitted them but i dont seem to be able to get them to stop moving forwards and backwards in the headset i fitted the crown race to the forks. Everything is tight there is just a large amount of movement seems to be in the bottom headset bearings the cup is not moving.

Any help would be greatly thanked.

it's probably either that you forgot to but the extra bottom race bit in or it just needs tightening again - it takes a bit of wiggling to bed everything in

Extra race bit ? Is this the ring that has a bit missing?

Thanks for the quick reply your ace.

that'll be the one

put it on top of the crown race and you should be sorted. whether that's where it's supposed to go or not I couldn't say but it seems to have sorted mine out.

Just checking, but you did trim the steerer tube on the new forks, right?

I brought some spacers. Dident have the cutting guide to cut the steer tube.

er

were there any bits left over when you finished putting it together? - I'm pretty sure I have one of those split race washer thingies at each end of the headset on both my bmx and my mod

do check to make sure you've got enough spacers in there
