if your struggling really bad try a local signwriters. They would probably be able to produce something for you if you supply the logo but i expect it would be quite costly Rob
Also an idea could be to have a search on this site before you attempt to do a job as you will probably find some hints and tips. If you cant find anything from your search just ask and im sure someone can help you
there are some cycle maintenance guides that are very helpful available in halfords. As for fixing things go the best advice is to take your time and think logically, bikes arn't too difficult
your correct a soft pad will just squish onto the rim but you need the extra force a harder pad would provide. Its the same as a race car racing in the wet and dry. Softer in the dry, harder in the wet
A harder pad will work better in the wet as it will be able to put more force onto the rim making it bite. A grind would help serious amounts though as it gives little channels for the water to escape and some high points for the pad to grab onto. Just basic physics but being new to trials i dont know which pad is which Rob
must be cheap as i'll no doubt break it and would be a shame to waste a good bike on me lol. It needs to be a mod too so it can be chucked in the car and go to different riding spots. Let me know what youve got
