  1. Hello hive-mind,

Finishing up a 609 build and need to get a post and clamp for the seat.. but wanted to check the sizing and/if they differed build by build?

Chatting to @Robq7653 his is a 28.6.. and with no measuring tools to hand (well other than busking it with a tape measure) opening it up to some insight for those who know?

    Cheers!

The Burgtec Cloud, in my eyes is the best saddle for an old school trials build like a Leeson.

I have a carbon railed one on my Giant Team Trials and love the look of it. Helps that it's a carbon railed version too for that stealth look and light weight combo.

Just looking at that, seems a superb option - stealthy Ti rail is decent look and cost! Thank you sir!

  3. Random, but wondering what people ran / run as a saddle on their Leeson 609's. Last few bits to finish off my build of one and after some inspiration..

I know Clive had some custom ones made up, but they are rare as rocking horse sh*t. Recall some low profile carbon / Ti XC somewhere in my memory?! I find BMX seats a little too big and clumsy looking and tried the Tioga Spyders on a different 24" and it wrecked my ankles.

    Cheers!

  4. Hi Jonny,

That is a mighty fine bit of bike you have there! Shame it has come to part ways..

Forum is pretty quiet for buying and selling - but there is a section you can scroll through to give you some ideas on price. You will likely get asked to split it, which if you have the time and patience can make a good bit of cash, full bikes are usually harder to sell and go for less.. though you have some trick bits with the Team Hope green bits (those are rare as were only given to team riders, never sold to us general plebs).

It is also worth checking out Facebook - there are some for sale pages you can use - https://www.facebook.com/groups/332820906893533 // https://www.facebook.com/groups/843173502765234

Good luck with the sale! She is a beauty.

  5. I guess how long are you willing to travel and what you want to do? If you aren't too fussed by the tourist parts of London, Brixton is likely your best bet - great mix of bars, market, some funky stores etc. 20ish mins to north of the river and tourist / Christmas fun!

Personal favourite is Dalston (next to Shoreditch, once the hipster capital of London) straight run of bars etc. through the centre - Three Sheets is a small but great cocktail bar short walk from Dalston Junction tube station - 25 mins to central London on tube again.

Shoreditch has changed a bit from the old days of old celeb spotting, super cool neighbourhood - The Looking Glass is a bit quirky as a cocktail bar mind, but best in a group.

    Hope that helps!

I have ridden a 24 back in the day at Hemel Hempstead and Corby. Corby is a bit bigger and more varied

Yeah Hemel seems alright looking - but no slots on the Friday I am looking at this time around, Adrenaline Alley is about 2 hours drive so doable with an early start. Anyone tried Creation in Birmingham?

  7. All valid points, but, as with anything like this - all on personal preference. Whilst HS33's with Evo's mounts can need a bit of meddling for alignment and position upkeep - if that is your thing, there must be a way? These style EVO boosters go to 90mm - so if it doesn't fit - guess you could use a 2 bolt booster (Racing Line Small is 80 - 102mm) instead from Tarty / other trials supplier?

Otherwise, if you stick to vee - get yourself some uprated pads, slik cable as well for that nice feel.

    These backings are superb! https://www.tartybikes.co.uk/vbrake_pads/tnn_engineering_cnc_vbackings_with_post/c84p11370.html

Then grab a set of material to your liking (or grind if you run one) https://www.tartybikes.co.uk/brake_pad_refills/c552.html

Oh yes!! That seat is superb - though impossible to find I would imagine.

Thinking cable brakes, have a V sorted for the rear and a not very period BB7 in the garage..

    Such a sweet build!

  9. Not just content with a HEX, I also managed to get my hands on a a mint Leeson 609 Frame and Pashley (disc) forks to play with building as well!

Might go for a "of the time" build - brown frame and green decals makes part colours interesting for the build.

Anyone have any build pics out there to use for scoping parts?!

    Cheers,

I loved running zee’s for quite a while. Currently I’m now on Hayes dominions and there amazing. If you want to upgrade from zee’s you should definitely invest in pair. I had hope tech 4s also as a backup. But I couldn’t believe how great these Hayes brakes were the lever feel is incredible 👌🏻

    Loving the build dude 👍🏻

Thank you sir! Nice to hear more love on the Hayes brakes as another option, especially as Hope Techs are wallet denters.

I spent ages looking at different vans even doing polls on social media…I was expecting one model to come out on top but surprisingly there was equal amount of love and horror stories for the Transporter, Custom and Trafic.

In the end I went for a Trafic as they’re galvanized so should resist rusting, have dependable engines and a decent loading area. I don’t think they’re the best looking but they are a lot cheaper than VWs.

I’ve literally just had mine converted by The Ply Guys (I’m still sat in their office) and couldn’t be happier with the results.

That sliding bike ramp is cool!

  12. Thanks both! Yeah wanted to be relatively no-nonsense (there is a splash of Ti bolts across it mind). Zee's are a good mid level brake, decent power with the right pads, but not savage Saint power to fling me off.

Depending on how long this one stays with me - hopefully a while - I might upgrade to some Hope brakes eventually as they are my preferred. But for starting out, as long as the Zee's stop me on an edge I am good! Few more bits then will get out and ride - just hope this global warming created late summer lasts a little more to enjoy some dry riding..

Hate is a strong word 😅 What didn't you like? The rim brake, 5mm longer stays or the colour?

OK OK, disliked 😆 - the stays and the rim brake for me... though still better than the mile long bikes of old. I couldn't seem to get the right set up around stem / bar to feel happy on it, and found that running a rear maggie on it in a time when the Fourplay in 2012 went dual disc was a shame.

Interesting to see if this newer one remedies my personal gripes.

  14. Bit of a score, managed to pick up a NOS 2018 Inspired Hex Frameset in sparkling orange last year. Been slowly acquiring the parts, and finding the time to build the thing - last night managed to make a start:

    ShinyHEX.thumb.jpeg.e07739cdb05db859e2e8d04f40410110.jpeg

Will have a rolling version of it at the weekend, but the spec coming is:

    • 2018 HEX Frame and Fork, FSA Integrated Headset and XT Hollowtech II BB
    • SLX Cranks with Inspired integrated bash, DMR V12 Magnesium pedals
    • Hope PRO 4 Trials on Inspired rims, Holy Rollers
    • Trialtech 90*35 with Black logos w/ Arcade risers (Ti bolts)
    • Shimano Zee m640 with Uberbike pads
    • Inspired tripod w/ slim kevlar saddle

After hating disliking the Mark 1 Hex (and never feeling quite happy with how it rode), hoping this one will be a little more fun - especially being dual disc!

    Updates to follow.

The lightest 26” I managed to build was my Limey 4, just tipped over 7.5kg’s at this point and was a superb riding bike!

Did have a crank snap so moved to try-all. Full titanium hardware throughout. I was a good 85kgs back then and rode it almost daily.

Those were lovely frames!! Combined with the ti bolts etc. that looks particularly sexy..

Ouch, that is a major fail on those - hope not physical damage to you whilst they died

    Hi,

I think one has to consider the parts used for the build.

For instance, if you get a Crewkerz Jealously, you will require specific cranks and bottom bracket (you can go for Maestro or Clean cranks too).

Also a through axle on the rear.

A tapered jitsie frame requires a specific headset and fork from the same brand.

So if you only consider the frame, you may not end with the lightest build.

But to be honest, weight is one thing, but stiffness and reliability are maybe more important.

Oh yeah, those ones with proprietary parts you have to consider as well. And yeah, if it is something like a DOB magnesium monstrosity that just died, that is not worth the low weight.. it has to be able to take the forces.

This is more a toe dip, what is out there that was so lightweight in a build. Proprietary or not..

  17. Afternoon all,

Been having a think about comp style frames and the old weight weenie days of yore (well for me anyway) and curious to see what the "lightest" production frames, non-carbon 26" were / are?

Semi tempted to find one for a "light as possible" build project, but wondering for those who rode these style frames, lowest weight stocks were..

    Cheers!

    Brett
