  1. If everyone had that attitude, nothing would ever progress would it?

Theres nothing better than a company taking a new direction in something, designing something in a way in which no one else has yet. Even if it does not work and ends up a failure, its been tried and people can progress again.

    EDIT:

Oh yes, for all you weight weenies woried about a gram or two.

The weight of this system with a tradtional 4 bolt system would be similar. The bolts on the 4 bolt mounts are shorter than a conventional booster would be, plus you don't have any of the bolt spacers you normally would have with a 4 bolt booster. ;)

Those two bolts probably weigh less than the longer bolts and spacers you use on a normal booster you dick'ed

  2. You only need 4+ a-levels to join as an officer.

Bah waiting times suck indeed, but i dont want to just yet.

When you join, if you see maxton, say hi from me lol, you cant miss him.

Anyone know if bikes are aloud ?shifty.gif

Get on a ship that goes world wide and your sorted.

    What uni you at?

I'm sure once your settled in, maybe have a place of your own you can take bikes and other things to do with your life with you.

This has been discussed before, think the answer was, you'll have no time, and probably lose interest.

I think you would be talking about the Royal Marines there, the level of commitment is totally different.

do it man im in the raf and i wanna transfer to navy pays better in certain trades and the attuide is also alot better.

Ahh awesome, where you based to? St Athans? I think I remember riding with you years back!!

  3. I can see the idea but I think if its not broke dont fix it.

  4. The Navy is tempting after Uni, they offer silly amounts of money (like £35,000 golden hello) for graduate engineers

The missus would flip her shit though

I could carry on in uni now, finish my degree and join as an officer, but I don't fancy it as you never get to live life as a rating, its very "us and them" from what I've heard and you never really get hands on (at least as a marine engineer). Golden hellos are tempting, but I don't think you would get the same experiance joining as an Officer as you would a rating.

Hopefully with my qualifications and age, I could move up the ranks, maybe study at degree level in the navy and then move to officer.

Off to the naval careers office tommorow :)

  5. Extra bolts add weight. Why would you go for something like this, when you have supper stiff and light tnn clamp-booster. Might be a litle cheaper though.

I've never liked the idea of the TNN set up, a two bolt booster mounted to the top mounts leaving the other two free. I know its going to add some stiffness, but surely this set up would be more efficient?

I agree with the comment on it being too high, the booster needs to be as close to the pivot/bending moment as possible.

  6. A 'sneg' then lol.

I am joining, in about 2 years, im only 18 atm, so gotto enjoy my life a bit.

    Weapons engineer for me.

Where you thinking of training dude?

Going for Marine engineer, sort of follows my current apprentiship of Maintenance engineer.

If your thinking of going in as a WE, be aware that after applying the current waiting times are 18-20 months!!! So if your planning of actually being in there in two years, apply now! (This is if you havn't already :) )

how can you half expect something?

Half of me expected a witty comment about the Navy, the other half of me did not.

For example "I was half expecting that frame to snap on this ride" meaning that you believed there to be a possibility of it happening.

  7. Hi all

I have been thinking of joining the Royal Navy lately, as my current job (maintenance apprentice, studying HNC in Uni) is hardly testing me. I am thinking of joining as a engineering technician (marine engineering). The way things are going at the moment, I will have around 18 months to wait in which time I should have compleated my HNC in manufacturing and mechanical engineering, and my NVQ LVL 3.

Just wanting to know if anybody here is in the Royal Navy, knows anyone who has experiance with the Royal Navy, or anyone else who is thinking of signing up?

  8. Sounds awesome to me.

Location dosn't bohther me, I will travel for something like this especially if I'm going to be staying there for two nights!!!

I'd much rather see a fixed price of £6 on tarty bikes, then £10 on the day. With an option on Tarty for donatiing more than £6 and a donation box at the event!

  9. If you have a spare wheel about, which has the same spoke pattern (2 cross, 3cross, or even radial) and has the same amount of spokes, copy it!

Of course you can get an idea from a wheel which has a slightly disimilar build compared to yours, but even that will help.

Another idea, once you've laced it up upload some pictures on to here so people can check it for you.

  10. I think it was here sometime between 2000 and 2002, such a long time ago I can't remember.

I remember registering way before the server crash, back when I cared about my post count.......i think i may have been browsing the trials kings forums and found trials-forum through there. Think my member number was around 110.

    Wheres the time gone? Mad.

  11. got a brake booster? that might help protect it a bit if you don't already have one.

failing that, just try to be more aware I guess, or have a look at getting a hose splitter, I've heard they break less easy

As above, a splitter may help. Although I can't see how you could be breaking so many hoses, I've never had one fail!

    Monty Splitter

  12. I will now explain what it does.

The spray keeps your chain running smoothly on the sprocket, it slows down wear rate and prolongs the life of your chain.

Using any lubrication will help to prevent stiff links in the chain and using a dry lube will do this even more so as it prevents dirt from clinging to the chain like it would with a wet lube.

If your not using any chain lubrication you should be! Its not only a matter of keeping the bike running smoothly but its about safety.

If your chain snaps on something big your going to feel it.

Quick edit: I can't really recommend the monty spray, only because i haven't used it. Straight line wet lube XC (Green top) has been amazing for me I would suggest that for anything and everything. Its also good for keeping your hub nice and sharp.

I've never had problems with stiff links. The only people I've ever seen have problems are those who can't join a chain properlly.

  13. Only muppets use WD40 or GT85 for chain lube. You might as well use water.

I must be a muppet then.

I've always used it, knowing that it does not have the same benifits as chain lube. I usually use it to have on there to keep rust at bay and disperse water, I don't find that my chain does enough miles to warrent lube.

Now if I was talking about my DH rig, it would be chain lube all the way.
