  1. Went to collect the M3 from a very lengthy diff job to find that the owner went out to test the car and the bonnet opened on him... It was presumably left open by some customer who probably wanted to see the engine. He says he didn't touch the bonnet and I don't see any reason why he would. So goodbye front windscreen and see you later bonnet. Obviously they are going to fix it and I have no hard feelings towards them for it because I'm not a woman. But I'm getting so put off by that car it's unreal. The fuel line burst before he took the car out covering the workshop in petrol. And the diff flange is still sliding out.

This is actually an issue we could write a whole book about because after 4 days of measuring every single thing in the rear axle, replacing half shafts and flanges with different ones, swapping them over we know absolutely nothing about the cause of this problem. The diff was dismantled, measured only to find it's pretty much brand new and there's not a single thing wrong with it.

probably not what im thinking of but i have heard of some people who use the smaller diffs on bigger engines '36s having to put some weld on the inside of the diff so that they dont pull out?

  2. .hate to say it but i agree,

E36 sounds like the pertfect car for you

as said the 1.9 318 is a nippy but economical and fun version, or the 328's are fast with a touch more fuel consumption.

for that budget theres literally hundreds of E36's to choose from.

(but if you get an atlantis blue one i will find you, and i will kill you)

  3. Doubt it, the linkages shouldn't get that tight. If anything, they're too loose. I'll give it a go though. What do you mean by the focus reference? The box is a 6 speed Getrag 420G off a BMW V8.

ah right if its a bmw box chekc the oil, its either low or old an too viscous.

  4. Does anyone know anything about how shifters work?

Could any of the below parts cause the sifter to feel jerky? It should be smooth, in my case you need to apply quite a lot of pressure to get into gear but once you pass the tight spot, it goes in instantly.

look like a mk1 focus? if so grease the f**k out of both ends of the linkages. sounds like the input(driver) end of the linkages could be a bit worn

  5. That 2002 makes me pitch a trouser tent.

Spent the last 2 days hand crafting my rear arches. 28 hours of metal work in them now, the thinest skim of filler I have ever seen on panel beaten arches and a blast of bar coat and primer, I'm not 100% happy how they look but 99% will do as the rest of the car isn't perfect. Now I'll be able to tone my rear camber down from 12* to about 3* to match the fronts. Buying more paint in the morning and will have pictures on Wednesday evening. Fabbed some extra bumper mounts to bring it out to line up properly. Now thats a perfect bank holiday

  6. That mk5 golf on air a friend of yours Bucky? Saw it on the show an shine Sunday an followed it home some of the way. Reaaally liked that.

nah dont know the dude but i just loved how it sat.

mine sits like that, when going round corners which is why my month old arches are now f**ked.

  7. yes wrayvon im about this weekend.

DrDoom, known jimmy for years, yeah seen his mini plenty of times.

last RR it went on was 399bhp i believe. its good work to say hes done most of it himself.

you'd be very pissed off if you paid good money for it though.

  8. sorry not going to even start messsing with the engine on this one. iv spent too much lready, the Mrs wants a house, and i cant afford insurance.

yes i will be at Vw Fest at the weekend, ill be camping with a group of about 20 lads. if you see me in or around my car say hi.

you could even take some high res pics if you feel generous :D

  9. Do your tires scrub the inner arch Bucky? Mine are ruining my inner arch/chassis leg bit.

yes only a tiny bit, and at the rear of the well, right where the brake pipes run, but i have 3mm lock spacers in each side of the steering rack. i just made up a 1mm steel sheet and screwed that over to protect everything :)

front plate back on. (both fell off and were run over, ill buy some more but plastic standard ones at VW fest)

  10. Is the rear anti roll bar touching right hand shaft? or is that just a mark on it unrelated?

sorry to her about the damage. by the sound of it next time you will be making the other 59 cars look like they wernt even trying
