  1. anyone in the rope access industry? It appeals to me but not sure how hard it would be to get into it in a decent role. I can see it being contractual work and varied in places which appeals now but not so sure in the long run. My brother is a health and safety executive currently doing offshore wind farm stuff. Absolutely rakes it in and he has recommended this route for me.

Just want a general feel for it all and what is the best way to get in to the industry. Obviously I need my IRATA, but when you get more specialist for the offshore stuff it seems you need so many extra lil qualifications.

Fingers crossed, someone has some knowledge.

    Cheers

  2. I def think it has effected me, I use social networks far too much and out of habit I just load it on my phone and nothing has changed, and then I realise its because it was only 5 minutes since I last checked. I also call or see people less and find it alot easier to do sweet f.a. I think if i cut down or cut it out I would be more inclined to be pro active in meeting friends and heading out etc. FB is awesome for a few things, but I believe its doing too much all at once. I think I would prefer a simplified version.

Think anyone would use or benefit from some sort of limitation software? So you can set it to only allow you access for 1hr a day...or any set time. Every time you go on to have a lil browse you eat up some of your time. May make you more efficient and less likely to just be on FB for FB'S sake.....I see Facebook as the new looking in the fridge for no reason.

Also just had a random thought, some sort of social media for only your closest real friends, maybe 20? cuts out the random crap of the people you dont really talk to and don't really care what they say. Makes you a bit more ruthless.

These are just thoughts for discussion by the way, I'm not necessarily saying they are good ideas.

  3. In January I left to go and do a 4 month course. A couple weeks were in Wales and the rest in central America, belize, in the jungle. I left my job to do it (I wanted out of my job anyway) and I spent alot of money on it all. Second day in I felt ill and had bad pains below my stomach. Long story short, I got appendicitis and had to have surgery in Wales. I missed going to belize. I was a bit bummed but will always put my health first. As I never planned to not even do the trip I paid no attention to the 'cancellation policy' just the medical stuff, so my insurance policy limit was 5k, I spent a couple grand more than that. So I had two options, lose money and claim or wait until may and do the trip again. Most people said I should have gone in may, but for some reason, it didn't feel right (along with a couple measly factors) I decided to cut my losses. I just got a message from the person I got on most with when I met my group in Wales and he's said something along the lines of 'if you are still thinking about doing this course, I wouldn't. It's not what they said it was going to be, and I definitely feel a bit cheated out of some money' I feel bad for him but feel good for myself knowing that at the the time it felt like I was really out of luck, but I trusted my instincts and even though I'm still clueless as to what I'm going to do next, I'm content and confident enough to know I will be going on to doing something I was meant to be doing. I've now got 5k that I had already spent to get me on a new path and get me by for summer. I guess sometimes, you feel shit out of luck, but life has a funny way of doing things. It will always be alright in the end.

  4. My parents just mentioned there is meant to be a comet passing over tonight (they heard it on the news earlier) but I've come online to find out details but can't seem to find any.

Its a beautifully clear night here in the midlands and wouldn't mind popping out to see it if I knew what time and in which rough direction.

    Any help?

  5. Watched "Trance" at the cinema last night. Really really good. Would happily watch it again (infact, I think I might...may tie up a few points!). HIGHLY reccommend it!

Its a Danny Boyle film; so expect to be head-f**ked! There is even a few close ups of some bare fanny...got to be worth it for that! :P

You just said everything I was going to say about it (Y)

  6. All sorted pretty much. I was just being a massive bell and thanks to my dad he figured it out in about 1 second. Had the adaptor on wrong way round. I just saw 'R' with an arrow and assumed the arrow should be pointing to the rear. Anyway. Its on and works ok, feels good on bar but can push through with the cranks when brakes on. There's a slight rub. Think its the pads but its extremely close to one end of the adaptor. Will have a better look tomorrow. Thanks for the help. Oh and JAF welded my tab (Y)

  7. What size rear rotor are you using and what is that adaptor? Reason I ask is I just got s tab welded on my marino. Have a saint to fit and a 185 bb7 rotor fitted. I have a 185r adaptor but it is nowhere near big enough. I've also got clearance issues between rotor and tab, can't fit the adaptor in. Something along the lines of your adaptor looks more like it would work but I thought your rotor was a 203. I'm so confused right now

Ps - you own my perfect bike. Enjoy it!

  8. One thing I have always wondered about Global warming is.........before humans, there was an ice age. Then it ended. So the world cooled dramatically on its own and the then warmed up on its own.

Isn't global warming sort of what happens anyway? Maybe humans aren't helping the speeds of these but this planet has done stuff all by itself before and will do again?

    .....Just a passing thought

    oh and i forgot

    amos lee - colors
amos lee - arms of a woman
    yellowcard - rough draft

  10. Im sure you have seen this before, but I'm interested to know if you think this has gone through post production? I just cannot imagine having that much colour whilst being able to see the milkyway so vividly. I know shutter speed will play a big part in the night shots, So using something like a gopro at night would be useless? Have to be a DSLR with adjustable shutter speeds?

Im new to all this so sorry if any questions seem dumb.

Also, with the movement (panning) in the shot does that mean his camera is set up on a timed track or could he have done that in post production? As in, zoomed in on the whole shot then panned it across the original shot? Does that make any sense?

  11. Afternoon,

I am currently the owner of two lovely bikes. One is an Inspired Hex Team 2012 and the other is a Marino 24 (currently brakeless) both ride differently, but both ride sooooo good.

Obviously the Inspired being newer will last longer but the Marino and I have history, sort of like a first love I guess. Is it time to move on? What do you guys think? Which bike would you have if you could choose one of these?

note: I can't justify keeping both unfortunately.

  12. Wish I could come see it. Hard as there are quite a few variations of system. I'd still keep taps open then, and attach the hose to the bottom of the tank making sure where possible it runs down hill, or level. Just not uphill. The flow may increase a little as air can flow in through taps. If its already flowing its a bit late. But giving the hose a suck usually starts a flow (like getting fuel out of a tank) I hope I've helped but I'm no expert. Good luck

  13. Is it a hot water cylinder? Do you have tanks in the loft? If you do you just need to lift out the water level arm (like the ones in your toilet) if not then I take it this water usually comes out of the taps. You are trying to drain a tank with only one a way for water to leave but no air to go in. That's why it comes out slow. First off I would say shut off feed to tank, leave exit from tank open. Open all hot taps, especially ones below the tank level. Water will only empty to same level as the lowest exit, ie-tap. Sorry if that's confusing. This is quickest way to empty a tank. At first it will seem that the taps are just running but should soon slow. Then attach a hose to the bottom of the tank to drain last bits, if you need it all empty. Also remember old taps and valves sieze a lot. So might need a tap with a spanner. Or sometimes they totally seize and never turn off.

Sorry if I have confused you. I've done only a few heating systems before.

Also, turn the electric off (Y)
