  1. Yes I was happy with it, but I could be HAPPIER with the Alex?
  2. Do i replace it with another D521 (now EX721), or go for the Alex (they look cheap on tarty)...? The main thing putting me off is that the Alex is heavier. Also i'm gonna have to spend more money on spokes. Will the Alex rim require more frame clearance for the tyre?? I'm not sure my Pashley has much space left.
  3. i'm using XTR v-brakes. the pads were non-trials specific 'fibrax' ones. this is where you all turn around and say 'well that was the problem then' I think im just gonna order a new d521 (which is now ex717 or something) cos it was a bit egged anyway.
  4. They are only £20 new anyway. People rarely want to buy a 2nd hand headset.
  5. grinded my rear Mavic D521 (old school i know), went out and rode, after an hour, my NEWISH pads were completely worn down ( need to buy a new rim now. just a word of caution i guess. I know its probably cos i didnt have the 'correct' pads but still...
  6. This all sounds a bit rubbish. The only advertising this company is doing is by gathering email addresses on forums??!
  7. Oh yeah that's a really good point! Nice one Paul, i'll definatley consider superglue.
  8. yeah sure... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Trials-Specific-Clea...VQQcmdZViewItem I can't find any reviews anywhere but £5 is worth the risk of it being rubbish as i might be onto a winner here! (They seem to be the ONLY trials pad going that will fit in a standard V-brake backing).
  9. Street. The last time I did natural, i walked home with FOUR thorns in my front wheel!
  10. My DDG grips are good. But i think they are discontinued now...
  11. http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=2&am...&p=158& Just bought these for my XTR v-brakes. Am i gonna regret it? If they are rubbish then I will fork out more for heatsink Vee-backings. But ATM, i'm being a cheapskate.
  12. alright well i'm definately gonna get the odyssey cable for my rear brake asap. i'm still umming and ahhing about the brake pads... but basically you lot have succeeded in putting me off the idea of maggys (saving me a lot of moneys)
  13. I have SD7s on my XC bike, tried swapping them over for a bit but found that the XTRs are more powerful. They feel spongier, but thats cos they are flexing the frame unlike the SD7s.
  14. don't suppose anyone has a pair of the heatsink backings they are willing to sell? £19 is a bit much
  15. will the cable fit inside my existing cable housing? i'm seeing different sizing here!
  16. cool thanks for all the responses. what brand are these 'linear slick cables'? i need to know so i can google them. i've always used cheap jagwire cables lol.
  17. just some black fibrax pads (the rubbers slotted into the standard XTR pad holders). need to buy some new ones as they are badly worn. this is what's got me thinking about Maguras. ive heard koolstop are good pads? what about the onza v-dapters that tarty bikes sell? then i could run magura pads?!
  18. Should i replace my XTR v-brakes on my Pashley with a set of Magura HS33? I mean, are they really all that more powerful? Surely they are heavier? And working on them is gonna be a reet jam as opposed to V's.
  19. i have a pair of avid sd7's on my Orange and they do feel SO much sharper than the XTRs. im thinking its because of all the extra bits on the XTRs for the parrallel push feature.
  20. i'm not sure i can bring myself to fork out £20 for something that might not work lol.
  21. How much difference will there be to my rear XTR v-brake if i swap the current cheapy £5 Outland brake booster http://www.raleigh.co.uk/pandadetails.aspx?ID=3629 for a £20 echo one... http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?id=13 i mean, the brake works fine for me, but i can still see the frame (pashley 26mhz) flexing when i brake, so im thinking it could be BETTER.
  22. It now has a middleburn 20t chainring, onza trials mech, ultegra 8 speed cassette and a kmc kool chain. im really pushing my skills to the limit now cos i actually trust my drivetrain :-D
  23. i use XTR v-brakes with AVID levers. never let me down.
