  2. i have a friend who is forty and still kills everybody with oldschool tricks nobody else does. if your physical condition is good and you have some experience with bikes, i think you can. obviously the key point is the physical condition. take good care of your body
  3. for getting cheap deng stuff, you can order from here : <LINK REMOVED> they have all the deng stuff, and i believe zhi and bionic as well since it s also chinese. ( <LINK REMOVED> ) the guy speaks english but to pay you need a contact in china because it seems they only accept chinese credit card. but you can try to convince them to accept paypal also... so i can take advantage of it . if several people ask they might accept I have already made 2 orders there and it s fast (5 days for the shipping). I bought first a zoo bar for half the price (65$ with shipping instead of 110), and then i ordered a adamant A1 frame (135$ instead of 450), KMC chain (10$), echo mod hub (45$), VIZ! freewheel (64$, same price ), and echo brakepads (cheap!). the shipping was 80$ for air travel. generally speaking, for all the chinese brands, the price is about 4 times less than the western price for frames, and 3 to 2 times cheaper for all the rest. it s not interesting to buy western brands, even if it s made in china the price is the same... i just put a new order for several parts, including a 46mm echo rim. they charge 20yuan for making the grind on the rim ( i let you convert ) anybody try? it would be cool to make them accept international credit cards.

  5. mmm good question i often take a look at my feet position before going for a delicate move, because with my shoes sticking on the pins it s hard to feel if the angle is good. but i always put them straight. i wonder how you can ride with your feet pointing inwards though :| must be uncomfortable... if my feet are not well placed i easily lose my balance on the rear wheel ... practice practice
  6. the worst....mmm i dunno but i remember a stupid one: i was trying a friends' bmx and did not realize the brakes were switched (rear on the left side, front on the right). so i tried a manual.... and fell on my ass, pulling on the right lever

  8. 1. remove the cable and the outer casing, you don t need it 2. tune the screws on the body of the derailleur to put it in the same line as the rear cog and to block lateral motion 3. adjust the length of the chain by removing links if necessary 4. tune the screw near the hanger to adjust the tension
  9. i had the same problem on my A2. the hanger kept bending and the chain was skipping because it was in need of a half link. it felt so unsafe i didn t dare to do things. now with a modstock it s great. nothing to bend, so i can try all . and no chance for the chain to skip so i can ride with confidence. only 2 minor issues: the chain line is not perfect and the tension is not homogenous. but i really don t care.
  10. if the bar is shot peened you should not try to polish it. it is shot peened to make it more resistant to cracks. so if you stripe it, first you will have to remove a lot of material (remove the little bumps + the anodized layer) and second you lose the advantage of the reinforced surface... not cool
  11. good point that s why i m gonna keep riding my cheap deng bike with no tensioner and no disc to break... and wait for that inspired.
  12. I think you ve grinded the rim too sharp, thus causing the fast wear...
  13. The ZOO! fork is very strong, because of the machined crown that goes very low and provides a huge surface for welding the legs. I have one and i think it s the best aluminum fork available. but if you tend to bend forks easily (which seems to be the case), i believe steel is better. curtis makes one with a reinforced steer tube as an option. good luck and try to absorb when you hit the front
  14. alright i just measured . right leg perimeter is 575mm, left is 565mm. but i do remember the difference was much more visible before i trained to solve that, people could tell just by looking... and now even though the size is almost equal, i can feel a clear difference in strength. so i expect some riders on the forum to be the same... show yourself!

  16. Hey, I realised some years ago my right leg was bigger than my left one. obviously because my right foot is at the front when i ride. I succeeded in re establishing the balance at the gym later, but now i m back to trials the problem comes back. so i m trying to use my left foot as well as my right one indifferently, but that s a tough job so i just wondered if you have the same problem and how you deal with it. especially if some of you can use both feet at the front and how long it took to learn that.

  18. i know , that is the difficult part. go high enough and bend your legs so you can push with your feet also. and i was talking of a rotation with hops, not spinning
  19. ok maybe i need to introduce myself i m french, i used to live in metz, and i moved to montreal, canada one year ago. i m 23 i ve always liked mountain bike. i did a lot of XC then some freeride. around 17 i started to ride in the streets with a 24B toy3, after i met some guys with an incredible riding. i ve been riding only street since then (with 1 year of trials on a toy3 with a 24in rear wheel in the middle), with different bikes. last year i switched to trials definitely because i feel like i have much more potential in trials. i achieved some quite good level at one time but i never felt crazy enough to launch a 360 on a 10 steps stairs. i m the kind who like to learn tricks step by step, by taking my time, and master the things i do. i was also influenced by a cool friend i used to ride with. he is the guy who taught bruno arnold (founder of ozonys, world champion) his first trials techniques. that guy is just amazing, genuine old school, no kidding. i ve always been amazed watching that 40 years old guy doing amazing tricks you never see on a 15 years old shitty bike . he held the world longest nose manual record at one time. also, i don t think i m of the classic trials kind. in addition to traditional trials i like to include tricks and street moves in what i m doing. i have a A1 right now but i m thinking of getting an inspired or a curtis next year. so that s my story. right now i m looking forward to get a lot of fun and improve well this summer. why not register to biketrials.ca some might ask. because there is one thread per week, eh! i think the uk have the coolest riders and after i got some work xp here i may come back to europe... uk?

  21. ok guys i m getting closer and closer, hopefully it s a matter of days or weeks before i can master front hops. i really had to make plenty of attempts just to get familiar with the position, find my marks :$ i also had fun training to pass over the bar . now i always reach the balance point, but it s hard to keep it. i keep training hard on it and will share the result meanwhile, if some are interested in front wheel tricks, i ve made a cool playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=3EA065F01E0053D3
  22. well maybe there is trials and trials. if your goal is only to come over obstacles, then street or natural, it s the same, natural is just more difficult, and you need to find the right spot personally i like to include tricks and to mix trials moves with street and bmx moves (i used to ride street on a 24in bmx like streetbike before i settle with a trials bike). i love the kind of riding guys like danny mac and matt berridge do. you can try to do that in the woods, but that won t be easy... and to ride street, you simply need to go out in the street to ride. if you live in a big city, the possibilities are huge. take your car and drive around, especially in areas you never go to, like maybe industrial areas or the other side of the city, you will see plenty of cool spots. from my xp, most guys who ride street take the easy way and only go to the 2 or 3 'best' know-by-everybody downtown spots, and don t try to search elsewhere. natural is fine but clearly more difficult. the cool thing is, when you come back on the streets, it s easy in comparison
  23. a 90% protein shake with milk. it gives energy and helps the body to recover. of course besides that you need to drink a lot of water regularly (ideally your pee must be transparent, not yellow...).
