  1. I still stand by my opening statement.

For ABS to be kicking in, the wheels are already locking. That's the trigger.

Either too fast, or shit tyres.

To give a little more weight to the argument, I run slicks on track, and can quite literally outbrake just about everything, and the ABS NEVER kicks in in the dry, unless I'm a ham fisted idiot and stamp on the pedal on purpose.

My money is on shit tyres.

  2. ABS is the first thing I switch off after starting the car, glad to have that option, hate it!

You've either got really shit tyres, REALLY intrusive ABS, or you're driving irresponsibly on the road

I have ABS active, and it's never an issue.

  3. still lurking around, at least i actually own a bike again though. shame i cant ride more than one day a week due to severe body aches. getting old :(

10 years 6 months 28 days... christ ive been here a while, and this is after the big forum crash of 03'

Good to see you riding again little Gay Dave. I'd hate to think how many frames have passed between us over the last 10-12 years!

Representing with the 10 year club.

Where do i collect my commemorative ham?

Just your re-appearence makes me happy Charlie! Good to see you're still lurking chap! Hope you are well :)

    Fr!ka's bench faceplant.

The stuff of legend. Back in the day when we all sat for hours browsing dave-trials.com and trials.ismad.com, and even Frikas first site before that, the name escapes me now!

  4. Fair enough Alex.

9 times out of 10, you'd be amazed at the difference with a fresh set of OE discs and pads, and a new bleed with decent. it can make really shocking brakes into fantastic ones, simply due to age and condition of the standard parts.

  5. I believe Textar are the main OE manufacturer for Porsche stuff. I ran Textar pads in my old porsche 996 brake setup and they seemed very good. No idea about different compounds though.

Surely Mintex shouldn't be too hard to get hold of Alex?

It could well be worth an e-mail to a company called Questmead in the UK. They own the mintex brand, so should be able to sort out anything, and surely shipping to Poland can't be that bad?

  6. That could also be the 390mm chainstays talking though? :P

Are they 390mm on the stinger Mark? Christ.

I never really got how wheelbases were quoted on a horizontal drop out frame. I run 18:16 instead of the usual 18:15, so my axle is right forward in the drop outs, making the WB a good 10mm shorter than when marc ran 18:15 before me in this frame

  7. I'm old, and think all this new modern high BB stuff feels awful!

Somewhere a few years back they had it about right. My XTP V-racing was+45 ish and that felt nice. high enough to get the gains of high BB, but low enough to not feel weird.

Current frame is a Yabba Stinger, similar geo again, 1085 ish and +45 ish. feels bang on to me. I love the way it rides, but when others try it these days they all say it feels awful! haha

  8. Small question, has anyone tried and had success with a supposedly high-temp power steering fluid?

I'd rather not fit a cooler, because effort.

Don't shoot me down straight away here Pete......

Why do you need a power steering cooler exactly?

  9. Half of you lot don't even count as old school!

Old school is those who had to re-register after the membership data base was lost in November 2002. Mike, Mark, Tom and I all joined before then. Obviously loads of others too, but that's proper old school!

Before 'trials forum' existed, this was just the website forum for Tenby-Trials i seem to recall, but that's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago!

Everyone is still around really, Not seen Bongo on here but he's on facebook all the time playing with motor bikes, lots of us just lurk in the car thread because after 10 years + we've really said all we can say about bikes.

  10. Haha, niiiiice. Mine will be back on the road next year defiantly. Missing it loads.

I think I just enjoy the fact that I still own it :)

There will always come a time and a place where my priorities are different and I've got the space / time to do it justice and use it properly. Until then I'm happy knowing it's tucked up in a dry garage, ready to be taken out at any time if the opportunity did arise :)

  11. I have a 1.6tdci feista zetec S, and it's slow. I can only imagine the 1.4 is painful!

I want a sequential box so badly Adam, but it's one thing i can say with certainty will never happen in this car! i think a bike engined kit car one day would be my most likely route to a sequential

  12. That's a bit harsh Jardo. I've met Andy, and yeah, the evidence is very much swinging towards him being all talk and no action, but he's a pleasant enough guy to be around.

Different Leon owner Robin, Jardo also hates Andy though, again, for no good reason.

Both Leon owners are nice chaps.
