Thanks both! Yeah wanted to be relatively no-nonsense (there is a splash of Ti bolts across it mind). Zee's are a good mid level brake, decent power with the right pads, but not savage Saint power to fling me off.

Depending on how long this one stays with me - hopefully a while - I might upgrade to some Hope brakes eventually as they are my preferred. But for starting out, as long as the Zee's stop me on an edge I am good! Few more bits then will get out and ride - just hope this global warming created late summer lasts a little more to enjoy some dry riding..

I loved running zee’s for quite a while. Currently I’m now on Hayes dominions and there amazing. If you want to upgrade from zee’s you should definitely invest in pair. I had hope tech 4s also as a backup. But I couldn’t believe how great these Hayes brakes were the lever feel is incredible 👌🏻

    Loving the build dude 👍🏻

Keeping this topic alive :) I've broken the bead/casing on my rear Ikon after two months, as usual with all my Maxxis tyres. After a while they just start to wobble like mad. A shame it happened so fast on this one, since the thread is still good. And I did really like the Ikon, great grip and a really damped/soft ride. But, it was also a bit too wide for the Hex in 2.35; tended to rub the chain stays. With the wobble, it really started to dig into the frame, making it quite unusable.

So I just replaced it with a Racing Ralph 2.25 (super ground addix speed, who comes up with these names?). After mounting, it looks pretty skinny and low volume compared to the Ikon. However, first ride in, agree with you John, great grip! They also feel a bit smoother rolling and pivoting, maybe because of the rounded off tread. Pretty pleased with them so far! How are yours holding up?

That’s great the Schwalbes are doing the job, I really love running them. Just wished they did them in tan wall.  Im currently use them as a backup tyre or during winter time. But yeh the tread works really well for rolling and grip.

I’m on maxxis ikon 2.2 tan walls atm and they feel great as well.

I am running 180mm shimano rt76 rotors. I could honestly bleed them and try again. These brakes are for my dirt jump (26") that I'm giving a trial touch to. It happens that compared to the standard of the hope trials zone it seems underpowered. But you're right, I overdid it a bit with zero power. I was thinking about the red ebc pads because I read that an experienced rider like Jhon Shrewsbury used them for at least 4 years and said that (for him) it would make a big difference... But I will start bleeding the Zees and then I will see what to do. Thank you Ross!

Yeh at least give the brakes a good bleed straight through.

Best other places for the pads is possibly eBay, here’s a link for shimano saint/Zee are the same shape/fitting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/373836292282?epid=1837122529&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item570a6120ba:g:j20AAOSwGKthw6oi&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAA4P%2B6va2zRfxSanakyZixyMYQKNNbaFIqSWzq5BCNaoMfLQhnZMA4EI7P%2FjLGSKXZGJz0DLMlyPzDFP%2BRXhC84tslPiSbYCVSyghbpHxT3qNieS7LJ78r%2FoU5nYmg%2BRMWqoyTh8ZFdRjPFdYloF%2FnwmZ4L2qLdjuTZzOxdzhyo5FNYajHpYFN7rZ40UIAYY6q8rR2obPWgO4tlTIIz5RrvvkJMph8J4kLOT5qWL2BhCu%2F7kLgp2Rr6fmSabtpC1J9s%2B6ZUt%2Bqq2EK29W4naMxcUy2NZ7MEMBKmUxt33CP5kQj|tkp%3ABFBM0O_OmI9g

  4. Tread is terrible on the race kings, I found it Just breaks off after 1 or 2 rides. I have a couple of pairs of ikons to test out this year. But atm I’m currently running the schwalbe racing Ralph’s (tubeless) There great grip and decent weight around 600g.

  5. Filmed some Footage of Craig lee Scott  last year during lockdown as he fancied a little spin on a couple of occasional rides ( doesn’t mean it’s a come back ) Well he’s still got it and can jump up down anything.

  6. Yes had it happen many times with Pro 2’s + 4’s.  I’ve got to the point of just having a spare wheel built up ready to hand incase one goes. They are the only brand of hub I have ever used and if I had another choice I probably would try an Industry 9, but it’s having a UK warranty base as good as Hope has to be able to fully commit to.

  7. In the past and present, I’ve had my frames acid dipped and it took all the paint off easy. Takes about two dips before it’s all gone. Cost me about £15, which isn’t bad and you don’t have the hassle of doing it yourself. It was a wheel refurbishment company.

But obviously not the same one

Probably not, only thing I noticed differently is the head tube and the colour. Guessing you know a bit more about the differences?

That's interesting to hear. What's your source? I did have my suspicions on whether the bike was actually stolen or not, or whether he just didn't like it and decided to bin it haha...

That one trip was to somewhere rocky with Edd on his raw Arcade? Buthiers? Anyone got the video?

First one was stolen when it was sprayed blue, then he had another one later in the year which was made and went on a trip to buthiers france with Eddie.

Anyone out there know what the geometry of the prototype Pashley was?

I'm struggling to get on with my modern comp frame after a few years off and am after something a bit more bike-ish. I'd ideally like to try and find something similar.

I believe James Porter had the frame as a one off. That trip we went on to Barcelona was the first time he rode it and possibly the last. I know he has just built it back up, but they never went to full production. You could possibly message him on Instagram/Facebook to ask the geometry. Here’s some pictures of him riding from that trip and recent photo off his Instagram

I love that Megamo John. the skinny tubing looks so cool. Im jealous. You should build it up.

I’ll hopefully get round to it one day. Finding good parts to make it suit will be fun. But I got a few ideas to make it look great. Watch this space :)

Thank you everyone, really interesting, Wonder what happened to the bike that was stolen?

I really love those old Megamo bikes. They look so simple.

He had one stolen then another one made. There are a few megamo’s bobbling about, you can pretty much upgrade the bikes with decent spec to make it feel quite nice. I still got an old one which has cracked about 5 times in different areas and one brand new (see pic) frame with 150mm axle clearance on the rear. They used to have really wide shimano freewheel/fixed hubs on the rear.

    What adapter is it mate?!

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I’ve ordered a Hope and will see how it goes for the moment.. If I can find one like the above I’ll move to it for sure though!

Search Hayes or avid Fat adapter.
It might be difficult to get one in 180mm. I only managed to find a 185mm here and filed it down https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Avid-Post-to-IS-Disc-Brake-Mount-Bracket-Adapter-REAR-for-185mm-Rotor/352149302576?pageci=22d30051-18d2-4329-b7f4-d3d33d11e7b8&epid=1305524222

  14. A lot of people have had this problem over the years, it tends to be the over tightening of the caliper on top which can weaken the holes where bolts go through or there is a lot of shock going through the setup when running a 203mm rotor. But as your running a 180mm rotor it’s hard to tell if it’s just weak about the holes on this particular caliper or you just had bad luck this time round.  I went down the root of running one of these adapters.  Yes it’s a 185mm, but you can either file it down yourself or take it to an engineer to put it to 160mm/180mm. Plus there cheap on eBay, I’ve not had any problems since. I run a shimano 203mm icetech rotors with shimano Zee brakes F+R. I also put one fat washers with green cab bolt on top of the calipers to give them a bit more stiffness.
