  1. Hey,

There is a place near mine with about 20 pallets round back. Normally we just drop them, sidehop them etc.

Well does anybody know any way of setting them up as a course. Like a track to go round. Anybody got any pics of pallet set-ups/courses?

I know a few of you have gardens that are beast for riding that have some cool pallet courses in them, so please, help cause im getting bored of trials in the same place doing the same thing.

    Kieran.

    hiya,have a look at these....

  2. Hiya, this is a poll in response to the thread about riding in forestry commisions.... I think it would be ineresting to see how much interest there would be and if there is enough I can show it to the local council and then maybe they might be interested in doing something about it. Brechfa Forest is 15 miles from Carmarthen in West Wales (not far from West Wales Bike Trials as it happens..) and already has four excellent mtb trails catering for the downhill/freeriders right down to family friendly routes and I think a bike trials area might be a good thing as well.It would add a little variety to the riding in wales which is mainly coastal or mountains which both offer great riding but are all on rocks or concrete (ouch). Also Brechfa is a busy place at the weekend and would be a good opportunity for people to see bike trials in a more natural environment (most of the public probably gets to see bike trials in the street where we're considered as getting in the way and/or being antisocial) .Please do the poll no matter where you live because if things like this happen then maybe it can be done in your area.We all know of places that would amazing to ride if someone decided to do something about it and got permission.

    Cheers

  3. Hey

I bought an XC bike about 6months ago and since then I've been to quite a few trail centers around the UK. Places like Thetford Forest, Cannock Chase, Sheerwood Forest, Lee Mill Quarry, Chicksands. the best was in Scotland when I went to Ae, Mabie and Dalbeattie which are part of the 7 Stanes mountain biking trails run by the forestry commission. All of these places have some great riding and a lot of time and money has been spent building and maintaining these trails. I guess many of you have XC/DH or other mountain bikes and have gone to places like these all over the country so know what im talking about.

I think it would be great to get a few trials parks set up at some of these places, after all many of these have dirt jump and freeride areas, downhill tracks, places with drops to ride off and narrow balance beams etc. So why not trials!?

I've seen the trials park at Lee Mill Quarry, looks great, anyone know how much it cost to set up, who designed it etc? Something similar at some of these trail centers would be ace, im sick of riding on stuff your not allowed on, people telling you to move along and chavs asking you to "do a wheelie mate".

Im sure it would benefit these places aswell, surely more customers and more money for them in the long run? And think of the very small area that would be needed to make a decent set up compared to an XC/DH route. Also most of these trail centers have build days where the trails are maintained and new features added/improved by volunteers, we could do the same surely.

What do you guys think? I reckon a few of us should send an email or letter to the Forestry Commission or who ever is in charge, lets make something happen! Or has this been done a few times in the past with no results??

This afternoon I phoned the local council and asked them if a bikrtrials area would be feasable in Brechfa Forest (in Carmarthenshire,West Wales) and they said "we'll get back to you...". I think a petition would help this roll on a little quicker.People already travel from all over the country to ride Brechfa's Downhill and cross country runs and they always come back. There also two family friendly routes at Brechfa so it would also be a great way for the public to see biketrials in a more natural and positive way as opposed to us noisy, squeeky twats getting in the way on the street.I'm not sure how to set up a poll/petition on the forum but i'm sure if enough of you respond to this thread positively it would be a good indication of whether it's worth the council making the effort. If somebody know how to set up a poll would you let me know....

  4. Simple, change the forum skin to cleancut v3.1 at the bottom and the option to sign out shows below your username

Thanks very much dude,I changed the skin and the signout box has magically appeared.I'd better try it before I get to excited...

I know this isn't a trials question but can someone please tell me why I can't sign out of the forum ?

Thanks very much to all of you that replied to this thread,it was really bugging me.It's sorted now.

  5. Is there more to it than just clicking the drop down menu and then clicking on sign out?

the only menu that i can find that drops down refers to my profile and there's no option to sign out there.....

You could click delete my cookies at the bottom left.

hiya, what else would deleting my cookies do ? I'm not really computer literate and i'm not even sure what cookies are.

  6. just watched this on youtube,

i didn't know gavin, but when watching this i didn't know whether to laugh or cry :(

    what a bloke,

    R.i.p gav

I just watched this and i cried.I didn't really know him having only met him on a couple of occasions but I know a lot of people that did and he will be missed.

  7. That was a great weekend, many thanks to Matt and to Adam @ tarty bikes for sorting out the event. It was great to see a big group of riders get together for a social rather than a competetive event and the atmosphere was most chilled. Also huge thanks to the guys sorting out the barby and the bacon rolls, they are heroes !

  8. Ok, I ride freeride and downhill, and now dabble in trials. I have slipped many a pedal and my shins have the scars to prove it. I have always thought its just the price to pay to play. But tonight I slipped up on the trials bike while playing on a baby little ledge ( I am a rank begginer ) and wacked my shins. It doesnt look as bad as some bloody messes I have had, but this one really friggin hurt. I mean crunch up and wiggle in pain hurt. Its been an hour and it still is killing me. Sooooo maybe I need to get some shin pads after all. I have some knee/shin guards for Downhill, but they were cheap and are uncomfortable. They are fine for down hill runs with mostly coasting but they suck for pedaling. So I am open to any favorites that are reasonably priced and comfortable that you guys want to recomend. I think for trials I just need shin protection, but again, I am open to your collective wisdom. And here is a picture for your entertainment.

Hi dude,i've got a pair of 661 knee and shin guards, which are crap for trials because they are just to bulky and i tried the veggie guards but they were just to hot and sweaty but then i tried my football shin pads (£5 from jjb) and they were just right. They even have little cups that protect the knobbly bits on your ankles. They could do with a little more coverage but they've saved my shins many, many times. I've seen a lot of nasty shindigs at WWBT ,including 2 really horrible ones on the same shin in the space of 45 mins which make me cringe still when i think about it (Cai now has a groovy set of trident ones !) Just get some. You'll be glad you had 'em on next time it happens, which it will.I've got a couple of pics that are worth seeing if i can dig them out. Maybe we should have a gallery of shindigs.....

    post-21594-127033566554_thumb.jpg 1st effort......

    Cheers

    Nick

    p.s.

I'm going to try and make a "best of...." vid in the near future. I'll try and sort it as soon as I can.

  10. Haha that was really good man!

    Where abouts is this?

Hi Ginger allen echo, this is west wales bike trials and the barn is in a place called carmarthen, which is in west wales. It's a bit of a hike from cumbria but we do have camping (indoor as well as outdoor !)

  11. Been thinking about while trials isn't popular. Apart from it not being the best spectator sport in the world I think one of the reasons is that it has an image problem. It just isn't very cool. Got me thinking about tights and how they must be having a detrimental effect on the sport. How can we expect the public to embrace the sport when most of the top riders wear tights with skimpy shorts on top. If the uci banned them in competition people wouldn't see there favourite riders wearing them and would be less inclined to wear them themselves. I know they are supposed to have positive effects on performance but banning them would provide a level playing field.

    What you reckon?

Have you seen a premiership footballer or any rugby league players NOT playing in tights or compression shorts or whetever they're called. No one thinks they are bad for their image. Wear what you like,no one really cares. This year i'm going for the borat mankini/shinpad combo, maybe a feather or two,who knows. (Y)

  12. WWBT is open every tuesday evening and at weekends for indoor bike trials sessions unless otherwise stated. For more info pm me on here or phone or txt me on 07970 080714. Cheers,

    Nick

p.s. just to let you know,West Wales Bike Trials is in Carmarthen.

  13. Sat at my computer watching trials videos on youtube for a few hints and tips and it suddenly occurred to me that all of the people riding in the videos are around 13-18years of age,

SO I'm testing the water to see actually how many riders on here are 23 years of age or more?

please add to this by stating age and location

really i just don't want to feel like the oldest person on here haha

Don't worry dude,i'm 37 1/2 and a couple of guys i ride with aren't far behind either :giggle:
