  1. Hi Pat There is certainly a trials scene in NZ, although i get the impression its only in certain cities. There are a number of guys who post in the Aus/NZ section of OTN regularly who will be able to help you out.
  2. Many people will recomend the DX32 because it is tried and tested, and certainly will fit in the norco frame. In addition it holds a grind really well. I agree that an echo front rim should work fine too (so long as its a double wall one... not sure whether they do single wall but if they do, that may be too weak). There is a small chance it would be too wide. Im not honestly sure.
  3. I'm pretty sure you only need to register to compete. You can just turn up and watch.
  4. Does anyone know what the 'License number' and 'Federation' that the entry form asks for refers to? Does it mean you need a BIU license to compete? Thanks
  5. Cheers guys. I'll definately be keen to meet you all at koxxdays. For now i'm going to go hastle our national cycling body about comp details. Cheers Jack
  6. Hey all I'm coming to Europe in March/ April for koxxdays and the first World Cup (im from australia). Koxx days should be pretty cool, and my travel for it is sorted so long as the tartybikes trip goes ahead. However I'm not sure what the best way to get to the round in Spain is. I've been looking at options for flying to Barcelona, then going from there. Will there be any Brittish riders going. What do you guys think is the best options for getting to the comp? Would someone have a spare seat in a car to help me get there? For people who have competed in UCI WCs before, is there a site you can suggest to find out more specific details about the comps? At the moment I have no more details besides a timetable posted on the UCI website. Thanks fo your help Jack
  7. My experience with joining links is this. I used to use wipperman links on my stock. They were fine running a 22 tooth front cog. They would last for roughly 6 months then snap while riding along (bizaarly never when on the rear wheel...?). So as long as I replaced the link every few months all was well. Then I changed mt gearing to 18-16. I started breaking wipperman links really quick. Two times I broke a new one within 1 hour of fitting it. After this I stopped runing them, and started running sram links. They lasted longer. Maybe 3 months? Now I ride mod and just join my chain and leave it. I no longer have any reason to break my chain. Therefore my recomendation is this - If you run a 22 on the front, use a wipperman cause its easy to get apart. Just change it every 6months. - If you run an 18 up front, use a sram link and replace it pretty regularly - If you ride a mod you shouldn't need to break the chain regularly so don't use a joiner. Hope that helps
  8. Adam has anyone ever told you that you're a god... So if you're prepared to have me along that would be great. I think it would be a cool chance to meet a bunch of riders, which is frankly why I'm coming from Oz.
  9. Hey all. I'm from Australia and plan to come to Europe for koxx days and the first WC round in Spain. However because I've never been to Europe before, and wont be able to drive, I have quite a few questions. So if anyone could bare with me and answer my questions that would be great. My plan has been to fly into Paris, then get a train down to near Buthier. Presumably then I would need to get a taxi to the site. So question number one is this. How small is this town? Will I actually be able to get a taxi? (in australia small towns tend not to have much in the way of taxis...) So next up is accomodation. Obviously you can camp (but this will be hard cause im flying and wont be able to bring a tent etc). There seems to be accomodation at Buthier. Has anyone used it before? Could you recomend what to book? Will anyone be using it this year that I could crash with? And the final question (for now... there plenty more in my mind). Is there food available to buy on the Buthier site, or will I need to go back into town to get some? Well thanks in advance for all your help. Hope to see you all there. Jack
  10. Ah ha, a spot for introductions. I'm Jack, from Australia, and have been riding trials for about 6 years. Over that time I've ridden both mod and stock. Started with mod, went to stock and recently moved back to mod because I feel it suits me better. I plan to come to koxx days in March, which is the main reason I've joined the forum finaly. Hopefully I can meet some people of here, and find out more details about how to travel to the event etc. If anyone wants to have a look at my riding, check out http://www.vimeo.com/2529117 Its a video from a recent local comp. Otherwise have a look at www.expressivebikes.com for other local videos (and a blatant plug for the site ). Cheers Jack
  11. In my experience, notched cams not only help hold the wheel more securely, but also assist in setting up a bike with a rear disc. When running a rear disc I'm very picky about having wheel wheel dead straight to the caliper. There are several notches on the cams where this works best. I mark the ones I use with a pen and it makes putting the wheel back in after a flat simpler.
