  1. Yea there is some not bad stuff down that direction, also very close to custom house square. Used to be a bit up around the University but there has been a lot of redevelopment up that way of late and I haven't been out in a while. I will take a run about this weekend for a reccy and get some pics of whats there to ride.

  2. really cool mechanism they've got there of spreading the pawl face out over 3 different teeth. i'm kind of surprised no one else had done that yet.

Nukeproof hubs use the same pawl design only set into the hub shell and the freehub body is the ratchet ring. I9 stuff looks interesting.

  3. Another vote for the Richey WCS grips.

I used to swear by the soft compound Renthal full diamond grips. Could use them with or without gloves no problem they just didn't last long. Bought up as many pairs as I could from Bikedock before they stopped stocking them. Does anyone know if anyone stocks these grips in soft compound? Think they are marketed as MTB and ATV grips. Can find mediums on ebay but thats it.

  4. Soooo damn true, although with sealed bearings you shouldn't rally be expected to maintain them in my opinion

Most sealed bearings have less grease in them from factory than a cup and cone hub for example. I always pick my seals on sealed bearings and pack them with a decent grease. Not so much a problem on a trials bike where muddy water isn't everywhere but all helps to keep things smooth for longer.

Yea Mark, the Trialtech's are next on my list. They seem to be getting real good reviews!

  5. Forks snap its a fact, I was surprised when I snapped orange trials forks a good years back. I snapped a new set of lite guys 3 weeks later. I resorted to using heavy steel forks such as tuf guys and pashleys which lasted me well. Downside as Matt has said is strength to weight, I needed a lighter fork so went with the echo pures/urbans etc and just changed them regular enough. The thick welded alloy steerer deng forks are strong but as with any bike product they have a life expectancy before fatigue kills them.

As far as the hub thing goes, trials seems to be the only discipline in cycling that don't seem to care about basic bike maintainance.

  6. It probably stems from the RS7's being the only decent set of trials specific cranks you could get until Deng and his many brands came about a few years ago. They still take some beating today. I have 2 sets that I have aquired over the years which could still be used no problem, they're just a bit too scruffy for my liking so they definately do last!

On a side note, if your trialtechs are isis shoot me a PM if your looking rid of them very soon. Need a set of stand in cranks asap.

  7. As long as they are the right bearing code (size) then they will do the very best! One thing I always do with my bearings (with great results) is very carefully pick the rubber seal out (small pick or tip of a utility knife) and pack the bearing with a good quality bike grease then replace the rubber seal. This will prolong the life of the bearings ten fold. Especially if you ride off road a lot or are fond of using a powerhose!
