  1. wouldn't that risk the bars slipping? And if not, what effect would it have? Haven't really gotten to backhopping in my riding yet (started fall 09 but have had 4 bikes stolen so far so effective riding time is way down ). I have tried it a few times and can hear no sound even if it is just a few small jumps. You mean i need to get the anodise color off from where the clamps meet the handlebar? I can try that as soon as it stops raining
  2. I thought so too at first but after trying to find it while riding i fairly sure it's from somewhere in the top half of the front.
  3. Hey people! I have an issue i was thinking you might be able to help me with. I recently got my bike stolen (again...) and the new one is making a very strange noise when i ride and i can't figure out what it is. The noise is a stiff kind of clicking sound coming from what i think is the handlebars and/or stem/headset. Almost like when a screw or bolt is really overtightened and then when you tighten it some more and it stops moving in a smooth turn and instead sorta jumps and makes sounds. I've checked all the bolts to make sure they are not too tight or too loose so that should not be the issue, but the sound is similar. Also it gets worse when it's hot outside. I didn't even notice it until the start of the heatwave over here right now and when the air temperature drops, the sound stops (or is reduced by a lot). Also it is not constant as i can ride a bit slower and smoother and it goes away. I can't recreate the sound while standing still (tried both standing next to the bike and trackstand). I can twist and turn the handlebars all i want and it stays quiet. It's not until i get on the bike and start shifting my weight about that it starts, and only then at the moment when i start putting pressure on the pedals (weight shifts backwards). I have examined the handlebars, forks, wheels, stem and everything i can think of but find no cracks or dents or anything. Also i can not feel anything that's wrong. Nothing shift, bends or is giving in at all. I've also tried shifting the angle of the handlebars but it's still there. I had an idea about the paint on the handlebar becoming softer when it gets hot and that might let the handlebars move a bit even though i can't feel it but i not so sure that's possible. New bars are ordered but wont be here for another couple of weeks and i really don't want to miss out on riding while the weather is this fine So, does anyone have any ideas as to where the sound is coming from and/or what to do about it?
  4. Nice! I got this strange summer-feeling from the song. I loved it! And the riding too ofc.

    Disk Brake

Usually there are two places to put the spacers. Either between the frame and the bracket, or between the bracket and the caliper. Now i cant say for sure as i have no idea how the brake-mounts on your bike are designed, but as far as i know brackets are usually attached to the frame using horizontal bolts. This would mean that putting spacers between the frame and the bracket would shift the caliper sideways (useful if it was rubbing the sides), and putting spacers between the bracket and the caliper would shift the caliper out/in in relation to the disc. So if i am understanding your problem right, and i would like to think that i am, the place to put spacers would be between the bracket and caliper, to get the caliper a bit further away from the disc.
  6. Well, the norwegian waterfront looks the same as always I enjoyed it. A bit repetitive, but relaxing and nice to watch.
  7. That was truly inspiring! Absolutely awesome in every way. I just wish winter was over so i can get out and start practicing again... doing it on ice is a bit hazardous
  8. I agree, the vid rules. But the goatee... it's green... that's just, plain wrong.

    Sin City

Awesome video! A bit too slow for my tastes, and some of the "sin city" effects seems to be there just for the sake of the effect (like the pipes at the end), but still. Nice editing, the b/w images that are made to fit... just awesome.
  10. That both sheds a light on things, and makes me very confused. The specs say ISIS, but the mounted cranks are Truvativs Ruktion cranks which are marked with the howitzer logo and are supposed to be made with the howitzer BB interface only. Maybe i just have to take it apart and have a look for myself. Is there a way to tell the difference just by looking at the splines (my friend google only told me they should be smaller, and i don't know it that's true)?
  11. Hi guys (and girls, if that applies)! Long story made short: I bought a specialized P1 2009 in the first week of September this year after having my previous bike stolen. And now (surprise surprise ) the P1 got stolen a few weeks ago (October 8th). And so i have just completed the little song and dance-number required by my insurance-company and today i picked up my new bike. There where no P1's left, so i got the dealer and my insurance-company to approve a slightly customized 2008 Giant STP SS as a replacement (exact words where that i would get a P1 or something equal, but the STP where cheaper so i was allowed to add stuff to match the prize of the P1). For those who are interested the "slightly customized" part means the dealer where kind enough to swap out the fork for a rigid one from a STP1 he had (The SS where originally fitted with a Marzocchi DJ-fork). He also swapped the original Stroker mechanical discbrakes for a set of Hayes El Camino fluid brakes. I also got a Truvativ Hussefelt 2009 riser bar and a pair of Wellgo B66 Pedals. Anyways, the question i had (and hoping someone here can answer) is regarding the BB and cranks. The guy at the dealer (really nice guy btw) said the BB is one of Truvativ BB's and the bike specs on Giants site says "truvativ ISIS external, dual bearing". When i asked about the cranks the guy at the dealer said that if i wanted to swap them out i would have to pick something from the Hussefelt series as Truvativ had som special spline version going on (Howitzer?). Is there anyone that can clarify this? Will any regular ISIS spline cranks fit or do i have to change out the BB/use Hussefelt-series cranks to make it fit? Cheers!
  12. The advise already given is sound, but i would add that when you're picking colors, remember that metallic paints tend to bring out scratches and bumps in the surface a lot more than ordinary paint (as the reflected light comes off angle with the surrounding surface). So if you find a nice metallic paint, take some extra care when putting the primer on so you get as even a surface as possible.
  13. Right now i wish i was living in GB instead of Sweden. Good places to ride here is like rainbows, only someone steals the pot of gold at the end. Looks like a lot of fun
  14. That looks so awsome! I so want one. In fact, i want more then one so i can have some company
  15. Ouch... I've got a strange, uncomfortable feeling between my legs right now...
  16. Trials HD rules!I still suck at it though, still can't complete 2 of the extreme courses.
  17. I don't know why, but your avatar is strangely fascinating... i just can't stop smiling at it
  18. I crushed my right wrist after going all mike tyson on the gymnasium floor. Was playing volleyball indoors and one of the girls did a "close my eyes and flail my arms"-pass ending with my sliding head first into some rather heavy equipment. Pissed as i was from hitting my head i jumped up, curled up in a little ball and threw all my weight and arm-power into hitting the floor while on my way down. My wrist felt like popping a balloon. They later found pieces of bone from my wrist down at my knuckles so it basically exploded from the impact. Afterwards one of my more physics-happy friends calculated that my fist had struck the the floor with enough force to shatter most of my arm so i was lucky i didn't blow out my elbow and/or shoulder with it. I got the ball up and over the net though, and we won so it was totally worth it
  19. There is only one god, and he is the best friend of every poor student in the world http://www.venganza.org/ On the serious side though, i think religion in any form is no more than the ultimate form of not believing in one self. Faith should be put in mankind and one self, not in some mystical being who in fact don't really gives a rats ass about anything but himself. I don't think it matters what people call it but i believe that people would be better off if they where dedicated to furthering themselfs instead of something that will give them no benefit what so ever other than something to blame when things go wrong. Everyone is responsible for their own life, their own choices and all that comes with it and since there is to my knowledge no god who will lift a finger to help anyone until it's too late i feel that it is also our own responsibility to make as much out of our life as possible. If my life or free will comes with strings or conditions attached, then i would not call it life and free will. I would call it servitude, and i'll pass on that anyday.
  20. I just found this vid showing the best moments from the Days of Thunder competition in Norway. I couldn't find it posted and i know it's not trials but i figured that some of you might like it anyway, i know i do. Some of the jumps are just awsome. Vimeo Video -> Original Video
  21. I didn't think it looked all that bad. Going by the shadow you where on your feet quick enough Kudos for trying but you really need to wear a helmet. That could have been really bad had you whipped your head into the ground a bit harder. Edit** I feel for you smacking your arse like that though. Standing up/sitting down afterwards is literary a pain in the ass
  22. I've got a somewhat related question. I just can't seem to get up any object higher up then around 30-40 cm or so. Can all you guys jump as high without the bikes as you can with them? Standing still i mean. I am a rather large fellow, too large in fact, and jumping up stuff is not my forte so to speak so i was wondering if there is any trick as to boost the upward momentum a bit or if it is just a matter of practice and raw jumping power?
  23. Seen it before, but i think the correct term is, nuts!
  24. That vid was unreal. And way to short. That 360 gap was so sweet, oh so sweet.
  25. I have a pair of BB5's on my bike as well and they work just fine, with one exception.I read up on BB5's and found that some people have had problems with the front locking up on it's own, and i can verify that from own experience. Has happened twice so far, both times after getting back on after a full stop using my front brakes so no accidents so far but it has left me a bit cautious when it comes to pulling the front brake to hard.
