    16:9 Or 4:3

It films in both 16:9 and 4:3 so you can choose (it has squeeze mode not letterbox which is awful). It's native 4:3 but you only lose a little resolution in 16:9 so it doesn't really matter. I film in both all the time depending on where people want to show/view it. Thats the beauty of the DVX100B!

    16:9 Or 4:3

Hi all, As this trials video is about trials people and for trials people I thought it apt for you to vote on the screen ratio and how you want to view the project. How do you prefer to watch trials.... In 16:9 or 4:3?
  3. Hi Guy's and Girls I've been slowly organizing a pretty comprehensive bike trials video which will be getting underway very, very soon. Now I haven't filmed any bike trials with my new SD camcorder (due to the fact that I personally haven't been out on a ride for nearly two years now). Why a Standard Definition camcorder do you ask? Well the video will be about an hour long in it's entirety and my system just isn't big enough to handle hours and hours or raw HD footage. Now my DVX100B is pretty much the best SD camera out there but shooting SD raises some problems in this HD world. Firstly 50i interlaced video is out as computers and most new TV's are progressive scan. So if I want the film to be future proof I need to stay away from the interlaced settings. That leaves me with 25p mode, which is pretty mush the digital equivalent of shooting film at 25 frames per second which can cause strobing and problems with fast movement. I've also got a nice lens adaptor which allows me to attach different lenses for different effect and I want to see how these work on trials footage as well. So I want to get out there and record some 25p footage and see how the camera handles it. Are there any riders in/around the Birmingham area that would be up for a session on a Wednesday or Saturday any time soon? It would be cool to make a day of it. I'll film and edit the final vid and put it up on youtube/vimeo for everyone to see the results. Cheers Kev
  4. Ok folks, it's took a while to get there but now with a diverse number of riders on board I am happy to commence with the film. Alastair Clarkson (AKA Ali C) Jack Meek Andrei Burton Scott Wilson Joe Maher Ben Rowlands Neil Tinnicliffe Ben Travis Stan Shaw I'm sure a few other riders contacted me so please forgive me if your name isn't on here. At the moment I'm working with the list that the trials community have provided! After next payday filming will commence! Also, I still have lots of riders to contact so hopefully more riders will continue to take interest in what we are doing here and the production will continue to grow.
  5. Man the dudes that made the flatland and free running films need a slap. I'm glad the chap in control of the Mac's video just let the riding speak for itself.
  6. Ok folks a wee update. Firstly the riders that are interested (so far) are: Alastair Clarkson (AKA Ali C) Jack Meek Andrei Burton Scott Wilson Joe Maher Ben Rowlands Neil Tinnicliffe Ben Travis and a rider that contacted me called Jo Prattley To the best of my knowledge I have contacted the following riders but have not received a reply: Dave Wells Damon Watson Nick Manning Adam Bassell John Shrewsbury And finally I have not yet contacted: Jack Carthy Rowan Johns Matt Berridge Nick Cooke Martyn Ashton Martin Hawyes Danny Mac Any of the Trials Kings Nick Goddard Chris Akrigg Ben Slinger Ben Savage Craig Lee Scott James Porter Adam Morewood Stan Shaw Jon Granger Martin Walker Ed and Matt Tongue Kris Lesson My internet has completely gone tits since I got back from Cornwall and it's making contacting riders extremely difficult for me. It literally goes down for days at a time. Therefore if any riders know the contact info of any of the above (riders who I have contacted with no reply and haven't contacted) can you please send me a link, email address or get them to contact me if they are interested. I have set up a new email address to handle correspondence for this project which is: trialsproduction@yahoo.co.uk Cheers once again for your help chaps, couldn't have done this without you! Kev
  7. Things are shaping up quite nicely for this Video!

    Akrigg's Away!

I don't know if this has been posted yet, I would say enjoy but... well, you'll see: http://www.chrisakrigg.com/
  9. I'll try contacting 5 riders a day and see if we can't get something rolling. Today I have contacted Ben Travis, Ali C, Jack Meek, Nick Manning and John Shrewsbury. Fingers crossed!
  10. Hi Jack, I'm shooting a video about Trials in the UK and folks from this here forum have recommended you be in it. There is an extensive list of riders I intend to contact over the following weeks to see who is interested (look in trials chat for details). Please let me know if you are interested in being in it. Cheers, Kev

  12. Hi chaps, I know I said I wanted to start shooting this on the 5th May but I got roped into doing a charity ride from John o 'Groats to Lands End after my exams and it took up a lot of my spare time. Anyway I'm back now and want to start shooting stuff as soon as possible. I've quickly scanned through this post and here are the riders I'm planning on contacting for the video. If anyone could help me out with the riders general location in the UK that would be class. I'll start contacting the riders near to me first and branch out as the filming goes on. Jack Carthy Rohan Johns Martyn Ashton Danny Macaskill Martin Hawyes The Trials Kings Nick Goddard Ben Travis Ali C Chris Akrigg Ben Slinger Ben Savage Jack Meek Damon Watson Craig Lee Scott James Porter Adam more wood Stan Shaw Nick Manning Adam Bassell Niel Tunnicliffe Andrei Burton John shewsbery Jon Granger Martin Walker Ed and Matt Tongue Kris Leeson Scott Wilson Joe Meher Also just want to say cheers for helping me compile this list as well! Kev
  13. If you just want to come and watch do you have to pay entry? I'm guessing you don't, well I didn't the last comp I went to a few years back... but that was a few years back. Tar
  14. Cheers guys this is great stuff! To be honest I think yep, the history side has been covered to some degree (although there is plenty of room for expansion). For now I think its best for me to concentrate on the riders (mostly because of money/time limitations). I might take it upon myself to forge a comprehensive historical approach at a later date, but for now I think its probably best for me to approach the discipline through the riders for directness and visually appealing reasons. I do like the idea of getting the manufacturers involved as they played/play an extremely important role in the development of trials. It's a necessary approach to the discipline. I'm sure the development of trials bike design could be a book or documentary in itself. The improvement of frame geometry, brakes, the whole weight issue, the people that design this stuff (more jobs), people riding to sell/promote the product (more jobs), profit margins, etc... attaches it to the economy/our culture in pretty important ways, and it has done for a few decades now (other cultures as well). I'm only scratching the surface here but trials isn't just about the rolling, hopping and dropping, it's tied into the fabric of our very societies in some pretty complex ways (this forum being one example of it's global reach). I think any real comprehensive historic overview wtould be a pretty mammoth task. If you weren't just going to skirt over the "main" zeniths in the discipline that is.
  15. I'm going to film it myself for various reason... 1. I want all the footage to be shot on one/two camera's so there is a continuity to the whole thing (although I am going to shoot some real film on super 8 for the intros). 2. I have specific questions I want to ask each rider in interviews. 3. Generally I want to explore the historical side to bike trials as well (had some experience with historical inquiry). However this last point might be a little difficult as I think trials developed outside of the UK to begin with. Without direct access to certain riders like Ot Pi this might be a little difficult, but I'll see how it goes... I need to do some exploring on this point. I definitely think somebody should be tracking the development of trials however. Most activities have a detailed written account of their past. There is no reason why trials shouldn't.
  16. Cheers to whoever de-cluttered this thread, much more manageable!
  17. Hahaha, come on guys... Help me out and give it a rest... I don't want to have to sort through another 4 pages of bickering. All sides of trials: whether competition/street etc, requires riders to have very different technical skills. Neither is better, there just different. Variety is a good thing, chill my friends. Keep the suggestions a rolling!
  18. One rider in, most excellent! I don't think it would be complete without Ashton to be honest. Will have to deffo try and rope him into it somehow! Mr Johns would also be ideal for this! For now interested parties send me your names, video links and location to the below email with the following title "Trials video" (so if any gets sent to my junk I'll know): on-one-2@hotmail.com Hopefully we can get something rolling fairly soon. Forgive me if I don't respond to your emails for a couple of weeks I'm chockablock with other work at the moment. After the 5th of May however I'm very free so I'll start responding and shifting through the emails! Should be an awesome project for 2011... Could you also link this post to riders whom you consider excellent uk riders. I should specify they don't have to be of UK origin, as long as they live in the UK (more for travel reasons) thats fine. Cheers chaps Kev
  19. Hi all, Right this is a project that I have wanted to do for a while and it has been forming in my mind for a good while now. I want to create a biographical video of the most Excellent Trials Riders in the UK at the moment. The format borrows from the 16th century art historian Vasari's methods of a biographical model presenting artists skills in the Renaissance. But where he had artist, I have riders. And where he had a pen and paper, I have a DVX100B video camera Generally the idea is to document the lives of riders; short interviews, riding at their familiar local spots/ the spots that are important to them and where they train etc... I don't want the video to become a spectacle (it seems trials videos are going that way more and more these days). I know a lot of the time when I used to ride I would be alone, riding for hours and hours, pretty content in one place maneuvering my way through the landscape, whether urban or natural just for the fun of it. This is the kind of stuff I want to capture, that evolving interaction between riders and environment. But anyway, if anyone could suggest riders about at the moment who are indeed miraculous in the art of trials then please suggest away bellow. What riders should be a priority? Even better if you are a miraculous rider and are interested in being a part of this project then please contact me, possibly even send me a video to show me your skills. I should mention that I don't intend to make any profit off this video in any way, shape or form. My motivation just comes from the love of the sport. However if anyone can suggest any ways of getting funding that would be great as there will be a lot of driving around involved, video tapes used and missed days of work. I want to get filming underway after the 5th of May.... Thanks and hope to here from you most Excellent Trials Riders! Kevin
