  1. ^that is pretty cool though..as a new rider at 28 years old, and a former skater...i REALLY wish i found out about trials earlier in life and got the chance to see the sport evolve the way it has. i LOVE old school stuff, parts, bikes etc...lol ive been looking for some old bonz cranks for a year and a half now.. long story short, i got a lot of respect for an old school purist like yourself..never thought of a smooth rim helping technique-wise but it actually makes a lot of sense..pretty cool IMO
  2. ^interesting no slippage issues even if you land on say, an edge at a weird angle? what kind of pads are you running? my front rim is almost completely smooth, and running plaz crm's with no issues whatsoever..id be scared to leave the rear smooth though...when i first started a couple years ago i didnt wanna grind my rim cause it was so cool looking, and didnt see a point in wearing a helmet at the time either...lol then i looped out during a pedal kick, hit my head on wood and had a headache for a couple days and a HUGE knot. learned 2 lessons that day. heh
  3. LOL....duly noted, gonna file my forks now and to isitafox - dumb question, but do you think i would be better served filing the axle down > my forks? just double checking before i take my mill b*****d to the sweetest forks on the market!!
  4. ordered a front wheel, echo hub laced to a green echo rim...did a grind, slapped some rubber on....and it wont fit on my forks!!! last front wheel was a monty hub/rim....wtf? does trialtech even make a front hub?? this is just complete bullshit, i really think there should be some sort of industry standard for pads/hubs/dropouts cause these companies are only hurting the riders. i just spent $200 on a wheel thats not gonna fit on my bike....FFFFFUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!! /end rant sorry dudes, just needed to vent!!
  5. honest question, are people really still using tar? i always figured that once trials guys figured out how to get a good, consistently harsh grind, the tar wasnt necessary? i assumed it was an old school thing you did instead of grinding your rims...
  6. lot of great information posted so far...thank you my friends!!
  7. nice!! 1035wb +75bb...that may well be my next frame if i cant find anything closer to +85 with a similar wb
  8. been wondering about this myself, i know a lot of old school guys swear by kings...what is the difference in feel, exactly?? i know weight more to the center with a ffw setup, but is that really the only main difference? please excuse the cluelessness of my question..
  9. very helpful man thanks!! cant check at the moment but if my wb is 1040, i most likely have a long, or no? i bought the bike 2nd hand, so all i can go off is what the guy told me and what i measured...hard to find a custom frame option in the states for less than $1200+ USD...outside of marino, do you know of any slightly cheaper custom options that will ship to the states? and im assuming adamant as a company folded? or deng just concentrates on echo and zoo! now??
  10. been riding an adamant a3 long for the past year or so, its the long...i *believe* the geo is listed as +55bb 1030wb, but havent been able to find out for sure...and when i measure (with a pair of trialtech forks on) its closer to 1040wb....which is fine as i really love how my bike feels for sidehops..it just sucks when i start looking for a new frame cause i dont see anything NEAR 1030 or 1040, longest ive seen with a high bb is like 1025... when i get a new frame at some point this year, id like to look into the +80-85bb territory..what are my options, anyone know of any "long" bikes coming out this year?
  11. after 2 yrs of riding and battling with my hs33s i JUST found out they make clamps that eliminate the cylinder washer..tnn, tryall, and echo all make them..im about to grab a pair next order i make..
  12. ryan leech posted a video on his blog recently of an old school rider from the 80s re-learning trials on his bike nowadays. f**kin guy is 70 yrs old!!! pedal kicking and whatnot
  13. what kind of snails are you running? i had similar issues till i stopped attempting to use smooth cams and got the toothed ones..
  14. lol...umm dude the best/most reliable place in the world for trials gear is right in england...tartysaywhat?
  15. hey whatsup guys im jesse, 28, from NY, been riding trials about a year and a half, used to bmx as a kid.... currently riding an echo lite... i prefer natural terrain as well, i work in the city but live in upstate NY at the foot of the mtns...
  16. bro im stuck on the beginners forum as well...but im sure most any of the questions you or i would have would be answered by fellow beginners, or one of the veteran riders that stops by this part of the forum...just saying..
  17. echo lite short w/ hi rise bars and 175mm cranks
  18. you english guys are lucky. very, very hard to find people to ride with in most parts of the states. i have yet to even see a video online of a trials bike being ridden in NY, LA, or SF....which is shocking to me as a former skater...
  19. stupid noob question, but is there a noticeable difference when using a half link chain, as opposed to say a kmc 710?
  20. im in the states, but browsing around the web i am kind of hesitant to order anything trials-related from overseas, unless its from tarty, who have proven to be more reliable than any place i have dealt with in the states, even all the LBS' of my life...are there any sites you guys have ordered from and not had a problem? like, some of these sketchy eastern euro/asian bike pages, they have sent a package that actually contained exactly what you paid for ala tarty? i have heard some mixed things about biketrialseller, but thats it...
  21. 30-40 psi is kinda high no? i am way more clueless than most of you are probably, but still..i ride between 15 and 20 usually, but have heard of guys in europe running even less? like 12 psi?
  22. i almost killed myself riding rim brakes without a grind. the pads were made for smooth rims as well. ever since then there is never even a question. if i even suspect im losing a bit of bite, i grind. i dont understand how other beginners can start riding with rear or even front disc. maybe im just that sloppy, but i bash my bike to shit and i cant imagine having to worry about a rotor near the spokes. im sure the modulation is nice for gaps to front though...
