  1. Similar to the above...

Another TMS Silex 26", 10.89kg from memory.

No carbon and wasn't really built with weight in mind, so could probably lose some grams if I wanted to throw some money at it 😬

XT cranks, XTR brakes, Reverse rims on i9 rear hub, Hope front. Billy Bonkers set up tubeless in the back with a Rimpact insert, Schwalbe Aerothan tube in the front.

  2. I'm interested to see how people get on with the Pro 5 SS. There's a huge emphasis on it having less resistance, partly achieved by running weaker springs and as said above, the possibility of double springing seems to have been taken away...

Tempted to pick one up and see how it is. If it's not great, I could always throw it on the DJ :)

I'm contemplating on if i should try a 110×35° stem, the 90×35 feels comfortable for me but i think a little extra height and length should help, or maybe it's too much. (I'm 5'8 btw and preferably ride in a more trialsy way)

I initially built it with a 110x35 as that's what I've had on my 24s. I found the bike really spacious, but overall really didn't get on with it. Could barely pull the front up and was worried the bike wasn't for me. Swapped it out for the 90mm after 1 ride and was a game changer for me. I'm 5'11"/6' for comparison. Certainly worth a go though as you may enjoy it for your style of riding :)

Loving the silver rims @onzatpro09. How do you find those Schwalbe tyres?

Cheers! I've got on quite well with them so far. I love pivoty moves and low rolling resistance tyres, so these work well. I've not had any blatant issues with lack of grip that I feel other tyres would have prevented, so overall would recommend. The rear is set up tubeless with a Rimpact insert at 45psi and has worked really well, although I feel you certainly want the insert. I do have a pair of Racing Ralphs to try at some point too which should be interesting.

Thanks man! Be curious to hear your thoughts on the 24 v 26. I came from a 24" Ozonys street trials machine myself, and really had to adjust to the mega flexyness of 26" bikes. Much more relaxed on the rear wheel though, and also a bit less cramped on the bike (not too short myself). Though nowhere near as much room as on my friend's 26" comp bike. However, that bike feels as if it will last only two rides under me :D

So I've finally got it built and have ridden it for about a fortnight. First thing is obvious - It's waaaaay less twitchy and nimble than what I remember of the 24. Feels easier once on the rear wheel, although certainly a bit more effort to get the front up, plus bunnyhops haven't quite clicked for me the same way they did on the 24. That said, I have had a good break from streety bikes so it could just be that. Manuals feel a little less easy with the bike being that bit more relaxed, but I'm sure I'll adjust.

Where it does shine is in it's ability to actually be ridden pretty trialsy if you want to. It's fairly obvious that it's no comp bike, however compared to the 24", static moves are a breeze. I've only briefly ridden a Hex, but the slightly higher BB if certainly noticeable (and prefered for me), plus the steep head angle does make it feel a little more fun.

In the last couple of years I have got way more into the seatless stuff after a good 5 or 6 years on streety bikes, but I find that overall it's a really good compromise with a 90x35 stem. Have been contemplating an 80x40 to liven it up a bit, but I do like the balance of where it is right now. Currently really enjoying riding it though and haven't touched my Crewkerz for about a month!

Also, silent brakes feel soooooooo nice after an antisocially loud dual rim brake bike :D

  5. That looks mega good and only makes me even more excited to build mine! I've had it sat half built for a couple of months now, just waiting for rims to arrive. After spending years on Arcades and having a Silex 24, I'm hoping the 26 should be what I'm after!

I can't remember whose they were, but one 26" I encountered a few years ago had brake mounts too close to the dropouts so pads being set perpendicular (read: issues for washerless mounts) would have it hanging off the inside of the rim. Another 26" bought in the same year had them too far the other way so pads would scrub the tyre.

No idea what the geo comes out as as I've not measured, but my 2022 Jealousy M does need the brake clamps shunted all the way back, and even then only just sit fully on the rim :S

No way, he keeping well? The MX24 is pretty. I have one more T1 in the garage

Yeah, business is good! Really busy, but all new and up to date jigs mean the bikes are only getting better and bigger things on the horizon!

Oh boyyyy, please shoot me a message if you ever want to sell!!

  8. I've used them on my MTB and they were okay. Max pressure of something like 30psi otherwise you crush the foam, although that seems to happen anyway over time even at low pressures.

I also found it made the tyre feel a little wobbly and vague, but it might be worth a go still. I never got a puncture so I guess it did its job! :)

    what cable are you using?

Whatever linear outer I could find hidden away in the back of the shop I work at and a generic inner :P I could probably go to town and get a decent one. Odyssey rings a bell?

Be careful what you wish for.

From my experience having too stiff of a brake feels awful. There has to be at least some give somewhere. Does the brake work well? If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I definitely get what you mean! I'm okay with a little bit, just want to get it slightly more solid. I know you can't directly compare as such, but the lever feel after pads contact with the braking surface is a taaaaaaad squidgier than on my XT/Saint disc brakes on my street bike :)

  10. Hi!

I'm currently running a front V-brake on my Ashton Justice and loving it (may go V on the back too if I can get hold of some 4 bolt to V adapters!), however there seems to be a little bit of flex in the system. I'm running an SD7 lever and linear cable with Deore arms and a booster. It would appear that the arms are flexing a little bit.

My question is are there stiffer arms I can use to somewhat eliminate this? Don't get me wrong, the brake feels great, but you can pull the brake a decent bit past the lock point. I understand there's always going to be flex somewhere, but I can't believe a deore arm is the pinnacle of V performance :P

    Cheers!

  11. Ignoring the whole Danny Mac link, the Endura Pisspot is great and I would definitely recommend! Plus if you are so inclined, you can get one with Danny's scribble down the side of it should you really want to

Dan Slyfield had one of the originals I think

I've got in touch with him and he said he may be able to dig out the original plans. Fingers crossed!

As far as I know, the Ashton is 1025 wb/+25 bb rise/380mm stays/72º head angle

Sweeeeet, cheers dude. It's pretty much along the lines of what I thought for that. I hear the Curtis had very slightly tweaked geo but that helps a lot :)

He did absolutely not wanna make a trials frame lol.

Update - After a decent conversation it turns out his 24" jig goes down to a minimum of 380 CS because the old T24s were that length. Bit too long for me unfortunately and the work to modify or remake the jig would push the price of an already very expensive frame a fair bit higher. Oh well, looks like that's that for the Curtis dream haha :P

He suggested an 83mm bb, 142mm axle etc

Yeah, it would definitely work that way but it's a nahhhh from me too. I have a very specific vision and if he can't/won't do it then it's a no from me dawg

That'll be his way of trying to put you off, haha.

Yeah, I figured fairly quick. Even asked about making forks but wouldn't even give a price on them haha. I managed to have a rejig of bikes and free up the money to invest into another so he was probably surprised to hear I was still interested :P

  15. I'm looking at something along the lines of an Arcade. The tyre/crank clearance is my main concern too and might be the deal breaker. Needs to be max ~365 chainstay or I won't be doing it. Can't afford to spend that on a frame that isn't perfect haha :P

So did I, he did absolutely not wanna make a trials frame lol.

Haha, different outcome to my convos then. That said, my dad bought an AM7 hardtail last year (the first pinion one he's made if anybody has seen/cares) and we had a good conversation about it then, plus while there he fixed a couple if cracks and popped some brake tabs on my brakeless Arcade. Although weary, he's not said no to the idea. He's put me on the build waiting list so that's a step in the right direction haha

I will say - The price made me choke a bit :S
