  1. Aside from Reed Mershat's movies I think the explosive growth of the UK trials scene in the mid / late 90s can be pinned squarely and deservedly upon Martin & Martyn . Also kinda interesting how Mr.Ashton's physique influenced his riding .

Compared to the average to skinny built Coustelliers et al , Ashton pretty much manhandles / throws the bike using the shoulders and forearms as much as pedal power . Anyone remeber the MBUK article like years ago where Ashton flexes his forearms ( swoon ) next to someone wearing a comically exaggerated popeye costume resulting in a pretty much favourable comparison ?

  2. Such skilful riding deserves a more competent cameraman - at the very least clean your lens before every take . Both the grime on the lens and in the "music" were seriously distracting from an otherwise virtuoso demonstration of power moves.

I kinda prefer videos featuring lines and flow ,but then Mr.T is deservedly famed for huge TGS . I would imagine his numerous sponsors might appreciate better produced footage so that their wares come across as more professional .

  3. Blimey ! Kenny just keeps gettin' better and in terms of fitness and dedication / focus is surely a world class athlete .Between this and Andy T's Los Angeles vid ,Mr.Belaey should visit the new world more often .G.T has a tentative history in trials by getting behind Hans Rey in ancient history but it's still rare to see a mainstream manufacturer even recognise trials as a discipline let alone actually market a bike / frame .I guess for the time being Kenny's on a rebadged Monty stock but yeah, that little street bike -was that a G.T ?

  4. Aww you edited your original post so my deciphering looks less impressive :D Not sure you can helicoil B.B threads but a good bike shop can chase the threads out and face the surfaces to ensure best fit . Brake mounts ? On a brand new frame , not neccesary and may invalidate warranty though some people do it as a matter of course .Just install your bolts carefully observing manufacturer's suggested torque settings .

  5. Ideally a Salsa or the sadly discontinued XTR unit, but many regular bike shops carry less exotic but perfectly functional ones like Tektro etc . CRC has some too.

Makes quite a difference ,as a long time V user whose frame is pretty flexy (Base TA 26 ) it made a world of difference . Can someone more technical than me explain the specifics? It was something like - improves bite at the expense of hold or vice versa .

  6. ... a vid using English riders...

Merchat's last movie Contact had a section of UK footage , some indoor speedtrial event and a ridiculous street session with Akkers , Petr Kraus and J-Lo (Lenosky) . :giggle:

I'm still astounded how Edd Tounge manuals over a car, from back to front ,smooth as you like . Also , I got a certain DVD for Christmas which helped to kindle my fascination with our sport aeons hence :

  7. 32:16 is the 'accepted' ratio...

Yup, seems to suit most speeds / terrain.Feels great on my S.S:

Accelaration is good and it offers a reasonable top speed .That said ,I live in the topographically flattest land in Europe which is blessed with a vast system of well maintained bikelanes.

  8. Surely this wasn't the main event ,probably a kinda half time show during a moto trial competition . Kinda sad to see biketrials relegated to an interesting distraction although the new UCI super finals are aimed at being TV friendly .
