  1. I've been trying to do manuals for the last 8 months and if i'm honest i'm completely hopeless. I've managed to dial-in stand up wheelies on my fourplay, when i stop peddling it all goes wrong and usually the front wheel hits the deck or i land on my arse. I try and ride every day and i practice manuals as much as possible, i can do bunny-hops and i can get up on to things via a short 2-3 meter manual so i think the technique is there but if i try and cover some distance etc. Any tips would be well appreciated.
  2. I don't want to get into a discussion about changing disks and pads etc. However I'm not convinced that my pads and rotors are contaminated, i won't bore you with why i think that, however, this evening i did a little experiment.Firstly I bled the front brake to see if i could contaminate it, secondly I did a 45 min session in the street outside my house and guess what, no squeaking! Thirdly, within ten mins on the pallets inside the garage, you guessed it back to squeaks city.
  3. Fair point. Be nice to know what they're contaminated with.
  4. I think you should go for the sky. its cheaper and fairly future proof. the differences between the two seem very slight, in my opinion. Also i had the same sort of problem when i was considering buying my first trials bike a year ago, i eventually opted for the fourplay pro and have ridden it nearly everyday, since. I upgraded the wheels and brakes and messed about with different gear ratios and in hindsight i would have probably been better buying a fourplay team. I still consider myself a beginner, but i have mastered 180's, pedalkicks, gapping, sidehops, wheelies, etc. (still working on manuals). hope this helps
  5. I get that noise on my hopes and i also had it on my elixirs. I keep my bike in the garage and the damp gets to the brakes and they squeeel. it also happens on my mtb which has avid XO's which have recently been serviced and new pads bedded in by the local bike shop etc . If I do some practice in the garage on pallets, I take the bike out and warm up the brakes, like you would if you were bedding in new pads. And when its really damp, frustratingly, after the brakes are warmed I get started in the garage and the noise is back. So i crank up the volume on my mp3 and booogie. :wink2:.
  6. you say you took the carb apart, i suggest you have a look at the slide see if you have it around the right way.
  7. Hi Steve i ride in Stroud. i don't know any good areas either. if you want to hook up let me know. Al
  8. i find front wheel hops harder than pedal ups etc. got any practice tips for front wheel hopping i.e. with the back wheel i hopped with the front wheel on a ledge then leaned back.
  9. How does hopping on the front wheel on the spot help you get up things
  10. First job, take off the strings and lay a straight edge across the frets. sometimes guitar necks can warp and this should show that its straight or not, check along its length and width. if warped you would be best off taking it to a good guitar technician/ luthier. Check if the semitone is sharp or flat so you will need a good guitar tuner. check at the 12 fret if it is still a semitone out both by freting and through harmonics. at this point you will need to look to the adjusting screws on the bridge (sometimes they are in pairs), one will raise the action of the string the other will increase/decrease tension in the string, it can be quite difficult to set this up properly, but i don't think you will make it worse than it is all ready, but you must do this with new strings . if its a guitar that gets propped up against the wall and doesn't get much use the neck will move, also modern houses with central heating can cause problems with swelling and shrinking of the wood. changes of temperature can alter the tuning, try taking a tuned guitar into another room and you may have to re-tune. A new set of strings and a setup will be money well spent if it has sentimental value, if not its firewood so get yourself a new axe and shred.
  11. Trials Dude hits the nail on the head. I like adaptable. :wink2:
  12. lowering the gear increases pedal rotation and shortens distance covered by the wheels, or from starting position,( ie weak foot at 1 o clock) less wheel lift and better balance for the all important pedal kick. Cyclist's, especially road racers suffer from a shortening of the hamstrings. which in most cases can be remedied by stretching. In my case as i was working as a cycle courier in London, stretching was'nt allways practical and after years of doing it..... etc. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this topic, your views have certainly influenced my decision on changing the gear ratio on my FP.
  13. Thanks for all the reply's, I'm gonna try 22-18 and see.
  14. What will be the best way to change the gearing, on my Inspired Fourplay Pro. Do i change the freewheel and guess the right size or do i think about a hope free hub and get a few loose sprockets untill i find the one that suits, even if this requires building up a new wheel.
  15. I keep having problems with a hamstring injury that came over from my road riding days and peddle kicks and drive train orientated moves tend to bring it on. i don't have the same problems on my mtb or road bike and i've been wondering if lowering the gearing will cure the problem. I also noted that if i raise the front wheel from the starting position (i.e. weak foot forwards) the front wheel is high and when i'm ready to get the power down with my strong foot, i find i'm off balance. so would lowering the gearing shorten the movement or increase it?
  16. I noticed that Ryan Leach on his video says that he uses a 22 tooth front ring and a 19 tooth rear sprocket. My Inspired Fourplay came equipped with a 22 front and 16 rear. I'm interested to know if changing the gearing is going to make much difference and how to make sure that the right sprocket is chosen. thanks
  17. thanks for the reply. whats the mud gonna do to my nearly new disks and pads?
  18. Any ideas on how to stop squeaky disk brakes. what with all the rain we've had, i haven't had much chance to get out and i've been doing most of my practicing in the garage or in the street in front of my house. i've been using a disk cleaning spray which works ok but does'nt last long before the squeak comes back and starts driving me crazy. any replies will be apreciated so long as they are relevant.
  19. I've been riding for about a month and believe it or not i'm not that interested in being the new Martin Ashton. I bought a trials bike to improve my mountainbike riding and i must admit i'm completely hooked. one of the advantages of trial riding is that you don't need a lot of space and you dont have to go very far from home, which for me with a young son is perfect. Most of my riding is done in my garage where i've concentrated on the basiscs of track stands, hopping and rocking. which i have nearly dialled in. i've also managed to hop on the back wheel a couple of times. I have'nt managed to video myself yet as i've found it quite dificult to ride one handed.
  20. what and you didn't with that foto Dankershern
