  1. I have some really horrible dreams sometimes... The worst reoccurring one is where my jaw clamps shut and im biting down harder and harder and my teeth start to crack and crumble away under the pressure... My wife has since told me that I grind my teeth in my sleep sometimes... oo er :(

I have another one where im being chased by a shadow, and as I try to run it feels like im running through water and it takes huge amounts of effort to go anywhere, and as if this is not enough, my digits and limbs randomly fall off as i go, and I just scoop them back up and push them back in place like its normal... I look down and realise ive put my fingers back on the wrong way and that they bend outwards not inwards... freaky stuff

  2. I thought the comparison between the Golf GTI and the Lambo was awesome, you don't really understand how fast these things are until you have something to comapre to...

I thought the tractor stuff was funny as well as informative. Its good to know that they are advertising bio-fuels for cars, as this is a personal hate of mine against the government... Bio ethanol, is cheap, very clean, can be grown in Britain and cars only need a small £400 device the size of two match boxes to convert to it... (it also gives greater power output, on top gear a while ago the 800bhp Koenigsegg CCX wasquoted at 900bhp running on bioethanol) yet the government in their infinate wisdom have decided just to over tax petrol and charge people for producing lots of CO2... just a money grabbing scheme not a helping hand to the environment at all... The fact that 75% of Britains CO2 is natural and that public transport produces more CO2 per person than cars is kept very quiet by the government too...

So if this kind of info is publically available then peole might start asking questions and the fuel problem can be sorted!

  3. Actually they make similar torque to any other engine with the same displacement, they just make more power. So compare a 1.6 vtec with another 1.6 and torque values will be in the same ball park (obviously there will be differences and the Honda "may" even have slightly less), but compare the same engine with another making the same power (158bhp for the uk engine) and it will loose on torque quite convincingly.

Also, the vtec engines make up for low torque by revving higher... remember power is what you get from (basically) torque (twisting force of the engine) x rpm. So a turbo engine gets the power by having a lower rev band but a higher torque, and an na with variable cams makes it by revving higher to make to most power out of the small amount of torque it has. So in the end, if a turbo and na vtec engine are in the right gears to make the same power (the na revving higher) then the pull will be the same. Its less of one and more of the other. So deisels can get power low down cos of the high torque, but cant rev higher to make the most use of it.

What we want is a revvy vtec engine with a turbo... come on honda!

  4. 10% more? thats another 20bhp andy...... very unlikely theres that much variation in engines!

also, the fact that they call it the 197 would suggest to me that many wont hit that figure...... as surely if there were much varitaion it would sound better calling it the 200 if any made 200bhp?

also, arnt the french cars measured in PS? meaning its 197PS< which is a little less in bhp>? i could be wrong on that one, just a thought

the b16a2 engine also does this easily, making 165bhp from a 1600cc Vtec motor

Its 197bhp cos its 200ps, like the Astra VXR is 237bhp or 240ps... I think :shifty:

Engines can vary by as much as ten percent... maybe its just five percent either way, but there is definately a ten percent margin in it. The max power an engine will output through bedding in is only usually seen at about 60k miles when the engine is fully bed in and the ecu re-maps to take this into consideration (on reasonably modern cars anyway)

But there is definately variation, some peeps with 182's are only pushing 160ish bhp where as some 172's are closer to 180bhp... all standard

It definately seems like high power cams are the most efficient way of getting power out of an na engine, but seeing as turbo's are cheaper, theres not a lot of use for them any more. Its a shame cos a car coming on cam always sounds soooo good compared to a dull turbo whine...

  5. I can only think of one production engine that properlly achieves this and its Japanese and in a two seater. The S2000 developes 240bhp from a 2.0ltr engine, and I THINK thats the highest output from any production 2.0ltr engine.

Because power is (basically) torque x rpm, and na engines are notoriously low on torque compared to a turbo'd engine, you need a larger capacity to gain extra torque to create more power (like 5.0 litres in a V10) or the rev band needs to be collossal.

So... In this little hunt the engine needs to be one that revs a huge amount (the S2000 revs to 9k rpm, only developing all its power right at the red line) to gain all that power from such a small capacity unaided, and only the Japanese really exploit that, european engines not being over-engineered enough to rev that high without breaking...

The mk3 RS Clio does get bloody close though! Give or take a few bhp dependant on the bedding in process, most could be making 10% more (but some less) than the quoted 197bhp

  6. Up drinking age to 21 to stop the 16 year olds getting in on it as easily

Up taxes on drink and fags so I don't have to give 22% of my hard earned to all the people in hospital from drinking too much or getting injured because of drinking

Put all alcohol in cans or plastic bottles, I'm fed up of smashed glass bottles everywhere, it does my nut in

  7. Remember, this report only takes into account accidents that caused a reported injury, so mild scrapes and bumps arent even taken into account. Imagine adding those figures to that as well and women would have an even greater lead on the number of crashes...

As with the blame on the accidents, it is clear that women are in the majority to blame for the accidents. The report doesnt specify blame, but if a man and a women were to crash and it was the mans fault every time, the number of crashes for men and women would be equal. Seeing as there are more crashes for women, that must mean either women are to blame completely or that women are crashing into women. Whatever way you look at it, it means that women cause more crashes that cause injury.

Overall, what shocked me in that report is the number or accidents cause compared to number of miles driven...

Men drive 85% of the total miles but women cause 33% of the crashes.

The majority of male crashes occur on the motorway, perhaps the number of long distance journeys casuing tiredness and lack of concentration may have something to with this?

Womens crashes occur at junctions and roundabouts, with the majority of the damage to the front portion of the car. I think it can be assumed that the accidents can be blamed on the women (unless someone decided to reverse into someone hard enough to cause injury) becasue of this.

Accidents occuring at a junction or roundabout can be blamed on one of two things; lack of concentration or poor coordination. Either one should be good enough reason to be failed on a driving test.

As for buying a car with one woman owner, they are always battered to buggery! Dont touch 'em...

  8. Interesting stats here to have a look at from the Department for Transport... there studies show that women crash more than men by quite a long shot (except between the ages of 17-20 but its a close one there)... makes you wonder why men pay out more for insurance?

What do you reckon? Insurance companies think that men enjoy fast cars and driving and are more easily suckered into paying higher premiums?

  9. FOR f**k'S SAKE IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT ANAL SEX, YOU OBSESSIVE FREAKS! *seethes*

I'm pretty sure most of you want to be in a relationship for other reasons, other than simply sex.

You can f**k a girl in the arse too, you know.

EDIT: Gah, now I'm marginalising myself. Right, no more posts from me in here, and I mean it this time.

You know that cos you're a gay man right?

All the gay people I know (bar one couple but theyre 50 odd) are only up for one night stands and would never want to settle down as a couple...

Think about it, the constant chase for perfect looks, always keeping body in trim, never has a partner but always has sex... most gay people are only after sex with an anonymous partner

If I was a secondary school teacher there is no way in hell I'd tell anyone I was gay! Kudos to the ones that do though, must be so much harder for them.

Why would a teacher tell his pupils? Why does that make him a better person? You dont hear:

"Hi boys and girls, I'm your new teacher, Mr. Magoo and I'm completely straight..."

So why would a teacher share his sexual life with his pupils if he was gay? A bit unprofessional if you ask me...

  10. There are gay couples I know of that it took someone to tell me they were gay before I even realised. There are gay people who like to broadcast themselves as gay and act in a very stereotypically homosexual manner.

Those who act in that manner usually arent entirely sure themselves of their sexuality, and even more often are likely to be swinging the other way purely to be different and to gain attention. I also dont like it when people force there interests and beliefs upon you in a very smothering manner; the very essence of being camp is often an invasion of personal space in often a subliminily threatening manner i.e: if a straight bloke were to act in a similar fashion to a girl, all touchy feely, he may end up with kicked balls and a cell for the night.

A force of beliefs upon someone in a suffocating manner doesnt just occur with homosexuality, it occurs also with religion, hobbies, work etc.

Now; I dont agree with homosexuality, but I dont hate those that do it. I believe it IS unnatural and wrong, but I also believe that I should treat everyone as equal and that I shouldn't judge.

So... It's up to the individual to make their choice, but they need to make it own their own without pressure or influence from others so they know its what they really want.

And finally; I think putting things in bottoms is just odd, I mean, who ever thought of it? Its smells, its dirty, and very unhygenic... bleuargh...

  11. lets be honest, its a vauxhall at the end of the day, they are just ugly elises in my opinion, and having been in plenty a pulsar and driven one with 300 bhp not many things will touch them off the mark. and for cross country pace it would piss all over a vx220.

Whats your point? A pulsar is just a Nissan and is far far far uglier than a vx220, which in MY opinion, is gorgeous.

Do you REALLY think that two cars, one known as THE best road car chassis for handling short of a caterham, running similar power/torque figures, one lighter than the other, you think the heavier, less nimble car would win point to point? In which case, why does Nissan no longer make such cars? And why do Lotus continue building track focused cars like the exige/vx220 turbo?

Oh yeah, theyre wrong; and youre right <_<

  12. It wouldn't beat that Pulsar, no. That particular one is running just shy of 500bhp. Standard Pulsars (220bhp, roughly 4 grand) hit 60 in 5.5, 300/310bhp sees you 3.9.

    Are the 220's AWD?

Would be interesting to compare a similar engined VX220 turbo tuned to 500bhp too...

Especially considering for around £3-4k you can very easily tune one to 300bhp (which gives you 0-60 times of around 4 seconds, maybe less)

But its not all about drag races from the lights and stuff, point to point through a good strip of welsh highway is far more enjoyable (Y)

VX220 are mid-engined rwd and are one of the best handling cars money can buy, so for its purposes doesnt need the weight and power loss of an AWD system.

I think we should settle on taste differences and different preferences on what we want from our cars!

Obviously some peoples opinions are more right than others :shifty:

  13. was going to say at least what smo wants goes some! but then again vx220's handle like the dogs danglies, personally id take the exige (but not the super sport one)

VX220 turbo... 0-60 in 4.6 seconds... easily tunaeble to 300bhp... id say that was faster than that Pulsar, no?

Even the VX220 NA would leave a standard Pulsar for dead point to point...

And just cos the VX220 isnt shaped like a childs drawing of a car (read: a box) doesnt make it a girls car...

And lastly, the price difference between Exige and VX220 is huge second hand... and we are talking about cars we are actually going to be buying here are we not?

Personally, I think the VX looks gorgeous and the Pulsar looks like a dogs dinner, but it is only opinion after all (Y)

  14. In-laws - Nob jockeys; FACT

Karen (my ball and chain, er, wife) said I should ask her dad for Karens hand in marriage and all that because he'd said to her if I didn't he'd go on a rampant path of destruction. So I did, and he said, "Ask Jean (mother in law)"

    Tres helpful, non?

So, yeah, moral of the story is, parents go all funny when they realise that their kid is finally buggering off and they forgot to spend any time with them and that its too late. So they take it out on you.

Dont worry about it, the BEST person to talk abou it to is the jailer, er, I mean your future wife, and see how she feels about it and how she would like you to deal with it.

Because after all, the wedding is HER day, not yours. (Face it, why does your suit look like everyone elses if the attention is supposedly on you as well as her? For this reason I took my bike to the wedding and didnt wear a tie)
