  1. as young mr noob has pointed out! its best to experiment and see what feels most comfortable. although most bars these days have a sweep(the amount the bars come back), so tilting them backwards will probably feel less comfortable than having them forward!
  2. Obviously the heavier you are, whether its muscle or body fat, the more weight you are going to have to move around and lift! Although those who are more musclar wont really notice as they will be strong enough to move the bike round anyway!
  3. hhhmmmm! looks like an interesting one this mate! Did you keep an eye on your kit on a regular basis! It looks like the eyelet for the spoke has fractured at some point and this has caused the crack in your hub! Possibly over a few days/weeks! To be honest ive never seen any hub break in this way, so am only really guessing, but it seems like the most obvious explanation to me!
  4. Thats a start mate! Eventually you should be able to roll straight up!
  5. If you mean hook as in hooking you front wheel over the lip of the wall then rolling up? Its a fluid motion mate! you need to use your momentum from landing on the wall, then quickly shift your wieght forward to lighten your back wheel and roll up! If you can get your wieght forward quick enough you should find it come on quickly!
  6. Looking good boys! Keep up the good work!
  7. I always thought the shooter was more of a jump frame!! But oh well good luck to you mate! Hope it rides well!
  8. try one of th touring shops! St Johns Street Scycles or Mercian cycles might well do you a cheap one!
  9. Tricks and stunts 2 (the art of bi-king) came out! which was ok but not a good as the original! And theres Evolve and revolution to! Which featured the talents of Ryan Leech and Jeff Lenoshy to name a couple! There was a downhill/trials vid called chainspotting, with steve peat, will longdon etc in it! That was a good vid! But if you look on the internet the in sure there are loads from the Koxx guys and such! And you cant beat personal homemade vids! Get searching!
  10. Two words for you mate! Pedal, brake! Hopping around like a loon with you back brake locked on wont really get you anywhere! Try learning to find your balance point. Track stand (essence of trials), then a quater pedal stroke to get your front wheel of the ground, then brake at the balance point (where you feel the front end become lite)! Then do the same again to move forward! I suggest you try and lay ur hands on tricks and stunts 1 (with the two martins and hans rey), brilliant instruction vid,
  11. Also think about a secondhand frameset (frame + forks) then build up with new parts with the remainder of your budget! This will save you a load of cash when you have to replace the old/worn out/inappropriate parts that someone else has used!
  12. Im With Gomp, you will get a much better deal on the second hand market! Although be wary of dents and cracks round the major stress points, especially on the more (ab)used bikes. Also due to your height i would definately say look at a stock bike (26") as for one you will look daft on a little bike and it will also not do your back any good crouching down to reach a smaller bike. On a 26" your centre of gravity will be more suited to your height, helping you with balance and control! Hope this helps you decide!
  13. IM sure that official magura braided hose has some kind of lining as the outer hose needs to be flexible! So chances are the water will never phyically contact the stainless steel braid! Unless of course, it leaks!
  14. id say go for new spokes to mate! Keep tightening them to correct twangs in your wheel stretches the spokes, so in time it becomes weaker and less stiff! I always go for a new set of spoke when im rebuilding a wheel to keep that superstiffness!
  15. walls and kerbs! Ok for practising gaps on though! Just keep getting further away from the kerb
  16. There was mutterings in some mags about the use of water! Water is thinner than the mineral oil in maggies and the seals are designed to cope with mineral oil, hence the brakes leak more often. Used water in mine for a while and it bid need topping up every now and again! But wether it did any damage to the seals i dont no. Got oil in there now and it seems fine! So i wouldnt have thought so!
  17. Yeah sorry guys! Only just noticed it after it went to the top 30 secs after this post! Answered me questioon to!
  18. Specifically the HFX 9! Any good? Anyone used one?
  19. dude dont forget to send me your address details!
  20. have emailed! being a new user on this site i was unaware that details like that where available! Also suprised at how easy it was to upset people on here! Am suprised that a simple post directed at a specific person could generate so many people wanting to have a go! Pointless to you it may seem, but it may well have achieved the desired effect for me!
  21. because hes selling a back wheel which im interested in! and i havent been validated so cant reply to the topic in for sale forum! Hence the topic!
  22. Give me a shout mate at robh101@msn.com
  23. Theres a lesson to be learnt here mate!! grease your bolts!!!!!!!!!!!! and if your going to try and heat something, trying heating whats on the outside! heating the bolt would have made it expand inside the brake mount!!! instead you should have tried to heat the mount, thus expanding the outer of the threads, not the inner! Of course if the brake is still on the mount! You're fecked!!
