ok so this atomlab rim is basically crap? :D
i have a spare silver d521 i could spray it up-im not too fussed about stickers (Y) just it wont look as cool-will normal car spray paint be ok?? or will it need an undercoat?
those tioga rims-anyone got any useful info on them? cos the crc site wasnt very helpful :D
im so stuck cos i really like those atomlabs (Y) but i know mavics are the best (just look crap :P )
cheers so far

ahh sorry mate i posted this at skool and forgot to check it till today!!! :">
thanx alot for your help (and mikedeere+derf)!!!
i should now hopefully have a good basis to do some work:p
what kinda stuff did you do? just photography or videos?
cheers:D

ive finally got some cash to build some new wheels for my bike as ive sold both of my old ones (im running some spares now)
ive run mavics and onza rims up until now and found them all very good functionally (no major buckles, no dents, not to hefty) but i fancy a change as they dont look as nice as id like :">
i recently got an atomlab trailpimp rim on a hope bulb for a jump bike but i liked the look of it and whacked it on my trials bike
it didnt appear to be much heavier than my reggie on a hope xc which got me thinking it would be nice to run one at the rear too
i ride mainly streety stuff and natural whenever i can. im not the smoothest rider in the world but i rarely dent rims (dont think i ever dented my ronnie) and i dont do huge stuff (i hate doin drops) so strength may not be as much as an issue for me as it is others
so my questions are:
can they hold grinds well? do they dent easily? what are they like for flatspots? is the fact they are pinned but not welded a real problem? how much do they weigh (in comparison to a mavic d521?), would drilling out the front one be ok?
i know matt berridge runs/ran them but i wasnt sure if he was sponsered by them or not
the other rim i liked the looks of was the tioga (black and white suits my base as the frame is black with white decals) but i dont know where on earth to get them-same questions apply to them as the atomlabs
cheers guys (Y)

magura are usually pretty good on their warranty and i thnk all thier brake socm with 5 years cover
you cant service magura brakes very easily as they dont do seal kits which sucks :)
my julie leaked at the master piston but it was too old too send back so i just bought a nice new shimano lever (xt £25 from crc) and the brake is awesome!!
(i didnt wanna bother with another horrible magura lever...........)
best bet is to get on contact with magura :)

nice cad work there dude
im not to sure about the rear end-i think you will find you will hit your ankles/feet on the rear stays-may wanna change that a little? also it would look better if it was nicely curved :P
i like the idea of using the square tubing on the downtube-reminds me of a pace and looks different :D
personally id run a little throat gusset on the downtube just to make sure the headtube doesnt snap off(thats 1 place id hate for my bike to snap!!)
have fun :D

cheers dude :P -the topic can be closed now and i can get on with my design project :)" a push scooter rahhhhh :P

nah not really no... i am just gonna give it a go for a week or two... if it doesnt work out i might get some bars with lower rise or hope viz do some lower stems... cheers guys... :(
edit: i do have a weird feeling that the higher stem would make me side hop higher but i guess tommorrows would determine that... lol..
i rode his bike on sunday and it felt mint-i usually ride stock and have found mods twitchy-his just felt right!!! it was almost like stock to ride just lighter :)
i wanna python copy now :">

im not surprised it snapped really-dont you run a 200mm rotor??
they aint exactly designe for trials :(
personaly i find my 160 just right( still tempted to get a 185 cos im gettin porkier)
-
hey there boys n girls
i need to know the spacing of a front hub(bmx and mtb) for my design project
i need to know from cone to cone
i think it is 110 but i measured a random bmx hub and it was 100?
if anyone can give me a definate measurement asap i would be very grateful!!!
cheers in advance, paul :(

oh my god sexual :)
i soo need too get a gold rotor for my avid :("
then my black and gold base will get pimpier :P
-
i have one on the back of my spare jump bike and it seems solid-it has a shitty shimano freewheel atm but im sure an acs/eno would soon bring it up to standard
the hub itself seesm strong and reliable(nowt much can go wrong on it reely)
the bearings are smooth and stay good(easy to replace)
the only thing id worry about is the axle-im not sure how much hassle it can take!!
-
i had to trim my booster to fit my base and it eventually snapped so i made my own custom one to suit the frame that took the narrow space into account (Y) god bless free periods at sixth form
i also run a tektro v brake booster on top and it is an arse for settin up the brake so im gonna make another custom booster similar to my old rb booster but in steel (Y)
-
talk to dave85 (edd potts) as he may be able to bore out the old cylinder so you can put a sleeve in-solving your problem (Y)
-
i imagine that your rim is flexing? is it catching on the driveside?
i would think having your wheel retensioned would help cos maybe the spokes are a bit loose-that happened to my px bmf rim
personally i think 2.5 is a bit big-your choice(saying that i run a 2.4 intense (Y) )
-
if you ride alot of natural then a higher gear would be a disadvantage to you in general-well thats what i found anyway
personnaly i find 22/18 a perfect gear ratio for all types of trials riding, altho i may try 22/17 to see if it helps at all (Y)"

www.bikefilth.com sell them
-
the base is great on street or natural-it hasnt hindered me at all
its your choice but at least you know the base rides well and they look damn good :)"
-
the closest to black is the ceramic ex721 which is marginally darker than the cd on the sidewalls(the rest is cd)
i think the only strong rim in black is the f519
-
that was a rather good piece :S
this can also be seen if you go to nass, everyone (all the trials riders) stayed together last year and made sure they looked out for everyone, which was nice :) .this guy is spot on. my bike was stolen at nass 04 on the friday :P and so i was bikeless all weekend. the trials riders were really supportive and they let me ride their bikes and we chatted for ages. after we finished riding we went and got thrashed and it was well good. unfortunately i only got 1 guys email address so havent been able to keep in contact with the rest :)
after that i couldnt afford a new bike and was gutted. luckily ive got loads of great friends who have helped me and 2 lads (george seamons and guy griffiths both on tf) helped me out big style :)
at that time i had invested all my money into the stolen bike so i couldnt afford to buy a new bike and my jump bike was not suitable for trials
guy gave me his old mod frame and loadsa parts( which im still building :P ) and george gave me a gt stock frame, and various other components to get me going again for nothing-where else would you find such generosity?
if it wasnt for those guys i probably would of quit and kept riding dirt :P how dull would that of been?
now im the proud owner of a base ta26 and its kitted out pretty well
the trials communiy is excellent unlike any of the other riding communitys-i ride most types of bike and have found dirt riders for instance rude and dull-they just w nt to seem 'hardcore' unlike in trials where everyone pushes everyone else on and tried to lend a helping hand whenever
so yeah trials aint just a sport or a hobby-it appears to be more of a culture now and it rocks
-
those forks really dont compliment the rest of the bike
i reckon some identit tuning forks would finish it off nicely(and would look even better if they were sprayed up to match the frame :) )
other than that like it :S
-
sorry to hear that your bearings have not turnd up
dont ride with 2!!!
thay put 4 in for a reason so you must need all 4 and you dont wont to brack it moor do you.
hope thay come soon
Andrew
well you can run with 2 bearings but the other 2 you are missing are also providing support on your axle so its not advisable-if you ride like that for too long youll have a bent axle
but if its only for this weekend then go for it-just dont do big moves harshly :)

personnaly i prefer risers
currently i run a set of 2.5inch azonic doubwalls on my base and they rock
i ran onza flatties for about 2 days and reely didnt get on with them-even on natural
i run a 100mm raceface stem by the way
im now getting some answer pro tapers (in gold of course) as azonics havent got a great reputation for strength
however i used to own an onza t raptor and it felt great with flatties-but once i put risers on it felt horrible
try borrowing some riser bars off someone first and running them for a week or so
thats the best way to see how it compares imo
hope ive helped :S

Why Trials?

Posted
not entirely true-with trials some so called 'real' trials riders sneer at the 'street' trials riders who do bmx moves and vica versa-there seems to be alot of this in the forum (Y)
ive always ridden bikes since i was small, did a bit of bmx when i was ickle(well tried :D ) and then got into xc when i was 12, kept breaking bikes and parts so i got myself a jump bike so i could get into the hardcore scene :D"
trials just naturally developed from there. i noticed that i was trying to bunnyhop more walls than get air from jumps, so invested in a trials bike a few christmas's ago, then i met the eastcoast trials lot (scotty, george, jimbo, robo, stu) and they invited me to ride with them, and i havent looked back :D -cheers guys :)
things that have kept me riding have been my passion for bikes (im obsessed it seems) and the social aspect of it-ive met some of my best mates just from riding and would probably keep goin on rides just to see them and have a laff even if i got bored of riding
trials rocks :P
