  1. Hi :D

I think I will try my bars a little further forward having looked through the bike pics thread, but If I dont like it it only takes minutes to move them back again!

I remember an old old MBUK article where Steve Geal said that swept back bars help lift the front end up , which kind of makes sense. I will report back this afternoon after a ride!

    Cheers,

  2. Hi guys, I was out on bike today and my thumb joints/ wrists are a little sore. I didnt do any real drops as I have a pulled muscle in my back so I was literally riding and practsing my balance etc. Im not sure whether this may have something to do with the angle of my bars, or whether its just my puny wrists still getting used to a rigid bike!

They are Easton EA 70's and I have them slightly sloping backwards towards me.

I know your bike setup is a personal thing but is there a general trend in trials to have your bars sloping towards or away from you?

    Cheers,

  3. Hey guys!

I got my grandads grinder out today and had a nose, it is so loud :P I had a headache afterwards! I had a quick practise on a piece of metal he had lying around.

Im going to get a new metal grinding disk soon and then go for it later this week :) Just need to order some new pads in first - Koxx Reds I thought would be good...

On a side note, whilst I was there I made myself a "hop-o-meter" :) It looks decent enough ;)

    Thanks for the advice,

    ~Gaz

  4. Hi,

Ive learnt to lurch the other week, and now Im practising (well not right now as I have injured my shoulder so Im having a week off :) ) doing them up/down steps and small walls. Mainly I want to learn to get up objects smoothly...

    Have fun!

Do you find your back muscles get sore after a while when practising lurches/backhops?

    ~Gaz

  5. Nah, to get a decent grind you have to press pretty hard. There is no danger of grinding through your rim unless you go nuts.

Phew, that is a small weight of my chest! I think I can find some alu lying around, if I can Ill practise on that first though!

    Cheers,

    ~Gaz

  6. Does it work well?

My grandad has an angle grinder, but he has really put me off using it - he said that it cuts through bricks like cheese and that if I try I will cut my wheel in half!! (Im not that great with my hands - maybe he has a point!)

How easy is it to slip up and cut your rim in half / gouge a big chunk out. My grandad thinks its inevitable, is it really that bad?

My grandad has suggested taking a wire brush to the rim and thinks that will roughen up the surface? A good idea?

How did you find it an_toin3?

    Thanks

  7. Hi there!

I was wondering if a grind worked better in one direction than another - I guess that answers my question. Im looking to grind my rear rim, in what direction do you do it can anyone explain. I think I know but I want to be 100% before I take a spinning disk to my new bike!!

    Thanks,

    ~Gaz

  8. I have just got my trials bike, so I wont be quitting for the winter!!! Although having said that, I will be at uni most of the time (starting in October) so I will be pretty busy in term time (honest!)

I just need to get the confidence up to grind my rear rim now :">

  9. Hi!

I just take a small bottle of water in my pocket if Im riding locally and put it on a wall when Im doing trials - If I go further afield I will take a bag with a couple of bottles in :'(

I dont see the advantage of a camelbak for trials really, as its so easy to stop and take a bottle out of a bag - its not like a race or anything! (unless your called Martyn or martin of course! lol)

  10. Excellent, I can tell you are pleased with what you have accomplished so :P :D (Y)

Im learning similar things to you at the moments, lurching up and down curbs/steps, small drops etc, but Im 19 so it isnt as impressive!

I agree, make a short vid and show us your moves!

I think I would improve faster if I had more confidence, but I dont like risking too much as I ride by myself usually unless my g/f comes to watch...

  11. I vote for the V-12's. My last pair lasted (still work but I sold my old bike so they went with it) over 5 years and still span smooth and straight - and I never serviced them once! I just got V-12's on my new trials bike and they are rediculously grippy. I used to have v-8s along time ago and they were good but they do wear out easier and "feel" a lot cheaper (well they are!)

  12. Owww some of these crashes have made me realise I really shouldnt ride alone!

The one where the bmxer knocks his teeth out and big_j's really made me feel "eeeeewwww"
