  1. She's got NOTHING booked though Rich, like...no hostels, not a single hotel. Absolutely nothing.

And? I spent months travelling around Europe (yeah I know, probably more easy than the Far East) and I didn't book anywhere to stay, and yet every night for months I had somewhere to stay. It's really not that difficult.

Remember when you're not working and travelling, weeks even days feel like vast amounts of time, so spending a few minutes to find a bed for the night isn't a big ask.

You ask why anyone would want to travel? I ask, why would anyone want to see the same thing time and time again with no change? To quote a middle-aged balding Aussie singer: "people always talk about being afraid of change, for me I'm more afraid of things staying the same".

    *no current GF issues*

  2. Would that BB require more frame threads if no spacers were used?

I don't think so…..however it has been designed for DH bikes (with the intention of allowing more clearance with the use of chain guides), or for the example I gave. If you had a 68mm BB and used no spacers it could very possibly stick out…but then you shouldn't be doing that anyway.

  3. "moments" :giggle:

I'm keen to visit somewhere in the UK like there, but obviously would require checking the forecast before hand.

There's really not much point to be honest. It's so changeable and forecasts are barely a rough guide. It'll change countless times in a day, and will often be the opposite of what has been forecast.

Check out the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04kntlk to the TV series and you can see when they hike up the ridge how it can change.

The thing is places like Skye suit all weather, obviously sun is great, but it's so impressive either way.

  4. This. Though i've done a climb like that before (without the bike) and it's all in your head. But it still looks super eeery on that video.

Beautiful location, i wonder if it's that clear most days? Nice place to go trekking for sure.

    Front flip was super smooth.

I think Danny now is starting to really appreciate his outcome, being able to do that and get paid for it is amazing. The foreign city videos, not so much.

I think being that it was on Skye, that was the one clear day of the year.

This is them scouting out the ridge before filming.

  5. Scrap the Yamaha talk. Went to another local store yesterday in need of a new amp, my cheaper then cheap shit thing is shit and cheap.

Requirements were - had to be a good looking piece of furniture, sub £400, 450 at a push and a valve amp. I love the warm sounds valve amps give and that very slight hum.

£350 later I'm the owner of a Fender FSR superchamp x2 cabernet blues and it sounds beautiful. Lovely warm tone with abit of drive on but on 100% clean its crystal sharp. Looks beautiful too in wine red with a cream cloth front.

Glad you made a good decision before I saw the Yamaha amp chat…..you just can't go wrong with a Fender tube amp. The colour combo you've chosen looks awesome! I've got a little Pro Junior as a practice amp and despite its size it's a great powerful amp which can easily keep up with a full band at practice. If anything it can be difficult to get it to overdrive as the max volume is pretty full-on.

I've got a pretty much unused Marshall full stack that I'm desperate to get rid of so that I can replace it with something like this: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-reissue-blues-deluxe/26128 or http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-68-custom-deluxe-reverb/87536 although the latter one is probably a bit over the top.

Have you fallen foul of pedal addiction yet? Or is that still to come?

  6. Cheers man, I'm really digging the fender kicks at the minute. I really really reeeeeally want a vintage Olympic White USA tele but I'm holding out for a straight example. It's more ornimant then to jam on but I'm sure it'd see it's fair share of use. The missus has offered to buy me a Fender vaporiser amp for Christmas too which I'm stoked about. That '64 case sounds a good find! Very jealous. I'd love a bigsby but I'm no where near that level yet of being able to get the most out of it, they just look badass.

The new bridge was from - http://www.axecaster.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_37&products_id=32

From reviews they're great despite the price. They drop straight onto my mexican tele screw holes too which is nice, the only thing I'm disappointed in is they haven't grooved the saddles to accept the strings but I can only assume it'll give a brighter tone sat on rather then in, which is what I'm after.

This ones for Skoze, as you've seen from prior phone pictures, my camera is dreadful. It's a smidge bluer and brighter in person...

    Do it.

Thanks for the link! Think I might be ordering one of those, just need to check it's compatible with a US Tele (i'm sure it is). If i remember rightly the original saddles on ashtray bridges didn't have any grooves…I'm not 100% but it rang a bell as soon as I read your post.

Your sea foam green start looks great, I actually really like light coloured starts with rosewood fingerboards. An Olympic White 60's start that's gone a bit pink with a rosewood fingerboard is my ideal guitar! Beautiful choice on the nitro cellulose as well.

I should of added….I didn't just buy a 64 case, it had a 64 Duo-Sonic inside it in Dakota Red. I don't play it a lot as it's a 3/4 scale, but it sure is purdy.

I think it's time I assembled the collection for a group-photo now this thread is picking up again.

  7. The next round of "ooh look my kid is so amazing" posts are appearing on Facebook, as all the little shitlings are starting school.

Seen two mothers now posting publically about how proud they are that their offspring had a whole entire day without pissing themselves. Not sure how that's something to be proud of personally...

I'm glad I'm not the only one subjected to this shit. What amazes me is besides that natural (I imagine) sense of proudness/love for your child, why is it new parents think that everyone else (many of whom have no link or affiliation to the child) share their wonderment?

  8. Decided to buy a case for my tele, there was only one option really wasn't there...

    imagejpg1_zpsf47706ea.jpg

Fender pro series hardcase in tweed. Love it to bits! Bought a wilkinson 3saddle ashtray bridge on the recommendation of my tutor too, to get that real bitey tele sound. Looking forward to getting that on in the coming weeks! I fancied trying to find a bigsby trem setup for it, but I love the simplicity.

All round f**king excellent choices there. I actually have a 1964 tweed case with a nice orange velour type cloth inside.

I've got an American Tele which is standard but I've always wanted a Tele with cream binding and an ashtray bridge. Also Bigsby's on Tele's are very much a wonderful thing.

P.S. Where did you buy your new bridge from? (1/2 tempted myself).

I've done 2 or 3 miles around the village trail. Feels good, nice and light, quite supple and responsive. I have a feeling the stem might be a fraction to long though. The front doesn't feel as nimble as I had expected and I feel like I'm leaning in quite a bit, like all the weight is in my neck and shoulders.

I'm not sure what is normal for XC after so many years on a slack DH bike. Hopefully someone can enlighten me.

    This imagine might help;

    1910143_10154479371040424_12270495373491

I cant wait to get the rear brake sorted and paste it down some singletrack!

Yeah, get a much shorter stem on there and it'll feel a million times better.

I use a 60mm stem which is considered long these days, I might go to a 50mm soon which is what most people tend to run. You might feel ever so slightly cramped when climbing but it transforms the bike so much that it's worth it. I'd get shot of that Ritchey ASAP.

If the top tube length is good for your height then you could even try a 35mm/40mm stem!

  10. Winner, thanks Matthew. Skill level aside, do you think she would be ok riding the blue BPW tracks on a hardtail? Don't want to put her off too soon!

Think we may also pop in to the Forest of Dean for a day of relatively chilled out trails too. Few days of riding, couple surfing and one to collect a new passport/visit family. If the weather manages to stay semi-reasonable it should be a good week :)

Yeah, definitely. I imagine some of the reds would be okay again, but the blue trail should be pretty smooth (I presume she's okay with getting out of the saddle for the downs?). A lot of BPW is very manicured being that it's a bike-park rather than a trail centre. I couldn't think of a better place to start to be honest. There's a cool little pump-track in the carpark so could be a good spot to warm up.

  11. Gents,

I've managed to score a couple of weeks leave from work and hoping to get away next week with Soph to ride some bikes. Her mum has a place in Malvern so hoping to use that as a base and hit up some trails/centres in either the local-ish area and/or South Wales.

    2-part question;

    1. Anybody got a spot that they'd particularly recommend visiting? Bikepark Wales looks sweet but may be a little too DH-orientated for Soph who's relatively new to it all and will be on a hardtail?

    2. Anybody vaguely in the region fancy a session? I've seen mention of Cannock Chase on here a few times. If it's worth a quick scoot up the M5 we could certainly find ourselves there.

    Any pointers much appreciated :)

Don't be put off BPW for your girlfriend. There are a few tough bits (not that bad in the greater scheme of things) but these are exclusively reserved for the black and red routes. There are a selection of blue trails which are intended to get people in to, and excited by riding so i'd definitely try there. Also it gives you the option to do as many laps as you feel up to as opposed to one big loop, so you could always shoot off for a lap of the black and red trail whilst she has a coffee at the café.

Cannock chase is also pretty beginner friendly. Everything can be tackled at the riders chosen pace. Nothing is big or requires huge amounts of commitment, it's up to you to make what you want out of it. A lot of the more traditional South Wales trails such as those around Afan are fairly typical red grades so might not be so enjoyable to someone newer to the sport.

  12. No pics of my bike yet but I just sorted a cassette that'll take a Hope T-rex (when funds allow) and a Zee 10spd shifter. All that's left is a saddle, post and chain and I'll be good to go!

EDIT: Cheapo seatpost sourced until I can afford a dropper in a month or two.

Be careful of what rear mech you use as many won't accommodate the T-Rex, and even if they do it can stretch them a bit far. I personally don't think they're really necessary if you have something like a 32t chainring up front.

There's some pretty steep mountains up around this way and on a 27.5" bike I've never ran out of gears going uphill on a standard cassette.

  13. poor guy somethings gotta be under his skin.

I know what you mean, clearly the skateboarding and graffiti aren't the issue. He seems at his absolute breaking point with life in general, there's something sad about the video despite his ignorant comments. The fact he rarely speaks seems as though he can't process his thoughts. There is a lot of shit to wade through in life so I can see how it gets the better of people sometimes, especially if you have an enquiring mind.
