  1. Hey all.

Until very recently, it had been a long time since I rode trials - and even longer since I posted in here. I managed to get a few friends together to start riding again and naturally the photography hobby kind of came with the riding.

Check out my first trials edit in what must be around 12 years. I'm older, (much) fatter, less flexible and with less bottle and I had more fun making this one than any of my older videos. During the process of filming this, I've felt stronger and braver every ride and hope to progress again.

Anyway here it is. and thanks for watching.

Edit - embed doesn't work... sorry about that.

  2. Now then folks. To cut a long story short, I've done some hub swap arounds on my bike collection, and my dirt jumper has ended up with a because screw on disc. I have an old tensile 60 click on my desk and would ideally like to weld up the lock ring and stick it on the dirt jumper. Now the removal splines on the tensile prevent me from putting this onto the dirt jumper to allow the ratchet to work the right way. What I want to know before I waste any time stripping it is: Can you reverse the pawls in these freewheels so i can run the outer ring backwards? It would save me having to look for a white industries mtb fw and will sound almost as sweet as the pro2 I've just removed from it. The only other option I have is to grind off the removal splines very carefully and do it that way but i'd rather not have to attack it.

    Cheers! :)

  3. So I've busted my ankle whilst riding moto trials. Don't think I'll be able to set anything for a while. :( . Someone should just either beat the previous set or get as close to my set as they can?

  4. I've tried.. can't do it so i'm out of this round :(

Pump your tyre up silly hard and find a nice smooth surface and give it the beans!

Also don't get scared of the feeling that you're about to fly off the back just stick it and you'll come back down :)

  5. Yo. Since starting up trials again i've gone for the sharp grind and no tar method (I used to be more of a smooth rim and tar person back in the day). Got a puncture and after fixing it all up the rear brake is complete gash. Now i know exactly why this is, bits of rubber off the tyre yadda yadda yadda. What I don't know is the best way to rectify the problem and have a savage rear brake again.

    I've tried:
Brake cleaner and a clean cloth and cleaned the rim and pads off
    De greaser
    Water

The brake is still pants and it's driving me insane :(

    Help!

  6. Hmm, sounds like something to do with what holes you've put the spokes in the hub. To me it sounds like you need to de-lace one side and move each spoke around 1 hole on the hub flange so the spokes that are pushing through from the outside should be from the inside and vice versa. On some hubs there's a minute difference. Trying to go from memory it's been such a long time since I laced a wheel up.

  7. If you're fat/heavy, radial can also exert a lot more pressure on the rim.

Enough that it can be the difference between a cracked rim and a very strong wheel.

I've had issues with 1x, too. 2x seems to be alright so far (couldn't get hold of the right length spokes), but if you don't need to, why take the risk for the sake of (I don't know how many so it's a pure guess) 8 grams?

I'd go 4, 5 or 6x if the hub didn't get in the way :P 3x seems to be sufficient for me to not crack rims though.

    3x3x4lyf.

That's the sorta info I was looking for :), I wasn't really wanting to do it to save a bit of weight was just more aesthetics but from your explanation I think I'll stick with the good old tried and tested 3x pattern!

  8. Going to be building myself a new wheel set next month and have been toying with the idea of a half radial spoke pattern on the rear. (3x on drive side and radial non drive).

Are there going to be any issues with wheel flex? especially when doing power moves?

I used to own a very old monty mod back in the day which had half radial on the rear which was fine but was just wondering if the extra length on the spokes would create flex problems?

  9. I expect fewer people enter partly because of the distance you need to travel as well, local clubs and comps would help alleviate that problem and also end up producing more world class riders. Not saying we don't have quite a few already.

I think as far as clubs are concerned it would be better, rather than to have a local club to have a regional club. Somewhere pretty central for a large amount of people to be able to access it.

Something like this could benefit from having better facilities, more land/courses/obstacles ETC. Perhaps something more than just trials. Barrow farm seem to have a good thing going with catering for dirt jump riders also.

A large site for instance somewhere just north of Leeds. Maybe near York that would cover the surrounding area that's not too much of a problem to access by train for the younger riders and easy to get to by car that has stuff for bike trials, moto trials perhaps and dirt jumpers I think would be a much better idea. Once the balls rolling and it's set up charge a membership fee (as most clubs do) Also set up government funding and you'll have an amazing facility and a large club virtually running itself financially.

Pretty sure the skate park in Corby is run like this :)

    Just an idea.
