  1. I don't mean to put a downer on things. But what happens if you f**k up? You're good at what you do, but everything goes wrong now and then. What happens when someone sends you a frame and it doesn't go to plan?

i do see, where you are coming from with this point....but not much can go wrong, the worst thing that can happen is if the post office, mess up...... ....but, we are going to be posting with recorded delivery with insurance....

    just to reasure anybody.

we will be thoughrally inspecting and checking all parts before we begin the process.

    thankyou.

  2. How do you remove anodising from rims????? it is a silver megamo rim....i have tryed nitromors and it doesn't even mark the damn thing...i have followed every instruction i have had.....if anyone can give me any extra info i will be very grateful,i am trying to chrome the rim...and where could i buy the "autosol" from?? Thanks

    zoo

well, caustic soda is one, i use mr muscle oven cleaner, i dont know whether that contains "caustic soda or not, but it works... i leave it for about 15-25 mins and then its ready for the long hard polishing process..

remember if your polishing, always prepare the metel before..small scratches,tc

you can get autosol from halfords...

    hope it helped

    Hi,

Nice guide mate, i have a koxx that is brushed, will this work? im thinking not. :(

    Jeza

    hey mate,

i have to say i have never polished a brushed frame... so dont take my word for it..lol

basically, strip the clear laquer of it sand the frame down with,800 profile sand/glass paper.

until the brush marks have disapeared,

then crack on with the polishing..

hope it helped, please contact me if you would prefer to have someone else do it... check my other post...

Seconded....and possibley some hard wearing gloves wen using the nitro mors.....Its really nasty stuff..its a real irritant..my hands were itching for hours after

ye mate it is, i was once using nitromorse topless becasue it was summer, i splashed a bit on my nipple and it stung like a rite ****** for hours....

good advice, big gloves, goggles, and cover all your skin......

I dont think I'll bother with the frame now. Problem with alloy is that it oxides...and looks shit after a ride, very high maintence to keep it looking good. I might just get it powercoated a different colour? :ermm: Maybe not...I'll buy me a GU frame and do it with that possibily.

if your worried about it oxidising, just massage a bit of wax on there, as already said earlier on in this post...

anyways, mate, all thing polished, look great so if i was you id go for it...

  3. it would be £20 to strip and polish the forks, excluding postage and packaging...

so we are now taking full orders.

i hope this service, helps anyone and everyone who wants there alloy parts polishing....for a reasonable fair price....

    thanks.

  4. rite mate

stripping anodised alloy, is dodgey.mr muscle oven cleaner can get it off,, but i have only tryed this on low quality anodised metal...another method is to sand it down with a low grade sand or glass paper,(about 800 profile)

the effect from the polish is stunning, you can get the frame to any level of "shine" the more you polish it the clearer the mirror finish gets....

so basically the more time you spend on it the better the quality....on the frame shown it took about 2 hours of polishing....(a combination of hand and machine polishing.)...

nitromorse does not remove the anodised material...

anyway contact me if you need anymore advice....

    thanks and hoped that helped..

  5. hey folks,

due to the amazing response to my, "stripping and polishing" post.....a few days ago.

    stripping and polishing post

i have decided to strip, polish and wax all alloy parts, for a competative rate.

The Stripping, (removes all paint from the frame or part)

The Polishing (gives the alloy, a crome look)

The waxing (prevents the alloy, from corroding)

    for a quote please contact me,(jake) ride4beer@hotmail.co.uk

    or paul on pauly_trials@gmail.com

THANKS I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON.

  6. So if i strp the laquer off then polish it with that stuff it will be ok in the long term.

yes i do beleive so, i have polished the rear swinging-arm on my kona stinky, and not clear laquered it, and its good still, not amazing, but what i do is every 1-2 weeks i just give it a quick, blast over with a bit of autosol(polish) then it looks great again,

hope that helped you out mate,

    jake ansell. (Y)

  7. did you laquer the frame after you polished it? my zona has come up well nice but my laquering is abit dodgey lol

no mate i just polished it, the clear laquer is a bit dodgey, you really need a prosional to do that, my spraying is good but, is easier and cheaper, just to polish it and re-new the polish every couple of weeks depending on the condition,,, but if you feel you want your frame polished, feel free to contact me on

    ride4beer@hotmail.co.uk

    thanks jake,

Is this effect possible to achieve on a 4130 steel frame? I've tried it with an old BMX frame of mine, by hand rubbing the autosol in, I have no drill with mop attached to it! The problem is the finish was no where near as mirror like as that Toxsin frame

Hmm, may try again sometime, but this time lacquer it afterwards to stop it rusting :P

steel is a very different metal, i am afraid this effect would have to be cromed to get it..., if it was an alloy frame it would be a very differnt effect,

if you ever hve an alloy part orframe , feel free to contat me on ride4beer@hotmail.co.uk

    JAKE ANSELL

Sweet guide Jake ! You are the man and thanks for the in-depth guide!

    Top marks brother (Y)(Y)

In my excitment I forgot to ask how hard the back end of a T-rex would be to strip? A little voice keeps saying "leave it, it's polished anyway, just do the front" (N)

And do the headset cups have to come out?

ye mate, the rear end is already polished nice, but strip the laquer off fully then polish the whole thing alll over, if you feel you dont want to or just dont have the time, please feel free to contact me on ride4beer@hotmail.co.uk .. thaks JAKE ANSELL,(the polisher)

  9. hey there,

this is my guide to stripping and polishing all alliminium parts, i have chosen to polish a toxsin frame one to demonstrate this process to you so lets get to it.

firstly you are going to need

    metal paint stripper

    IPB Image

a good drill with a polishing mop (large)

    IPB Image

    wire wool

    IPB Image

a rotary tool with a brass wire attachment or a brass wire brush

    IPB Image

    metal polish (we use autosol)

    IPB Image

    and finally protective goggles

    IPB Image

    Stripping the frame

ok now you have all the correct equipment, you need to apply the paint stripper to the frame useing a old paint brush (following the manufactures guide) doing small parts at a time.

take away the paint with the wire wool and a old yet clean rag.

    IPB Image

once you have got all the paint you can possibly get off the part you need to use the rotary tool/ wire brush to get the paint off the welds (be very carefull)

    IPB Image

once the paint is all off the frame you need to sand down all minor scratches and marks with 2000 profile sand/glass paper then give the frame one last check over for any visable paint.

    Polishing the frame

using your autosol/polish apply it in very small amounts and then use the drill with the polishing mop till you get the desired effect you want. (the longer you spend the better)

    IPB Image

wipe off the excess polish and finally give the part a good clean with a 100% cotton cloth

    IPB Image

    What you can achieve

this is what you can achieve if you spend enough time and effort on your parts

    before

    IPB Image

    and after

    IPB Image

    IPB Image

    IPB Image

    (Y) good luck

if you have have any problems contact me on ride4beer@hotmail.co.uk

if you feel you are unable or dont have the time to do this contact me and we can come to some agreement.

    Jake
